Bucky and Sam were everything I was hoping they would be.

>>82537241
It would have been weird if she was in the airport fight, she would have been useless or straight up died. I think they were just trying to hype her up so that people would know who she was when she showed up.
>>
>>82537241
She was signed on before the film became Civil War so I imagine she used to have a bigger role. As the least well developed of the cast they probably figured she was the most expendable character and cut out a lot of her other development, in a self-reinforcing feedback loop. Too bad that of all the stuff she could've done they kept the one scene that needed her to have been properly built up the most.

>Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely's original approach was Captain America and Falcon searching for Bucky while Zemo is orchestrating global turmoil. The "Civil War" element was added later on, partially in response to BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE.

>In early drafts, T'Challa was just a diplomat advocating for superhero accountability on behalf of Wakanda, and Spider-Man was the outsider who provided a different viewpoint than Captain America's and his followers and Iron Man's and his followers. When negotiations with Sony nearly fell through, Black Panther got propped up, and then Spider-Man became available anyway.

>The Wasp was in earlier drafts, and there was also an extended sequence about Scott Lang's life in San Francisco that got scrapped and never filmed.

>The Russos cut a scene between Black Widow and Black Panther at the German base after the battle in Romania because they felt it was redundant. Overall, roughly 12 minutes have been deleted from their assembly cut.

>"You just started a war" and "I was wrong about you, the whole world was wrong about you" got cut, probably part of an extended confrontation at the Siberian Hydra base.

Also, Markus and McFeely apparently presented their first story draft before seeing ANT-MAN and put Ant-Man on Stark's side before it was pointed out to them the grudge between Hank Pym and the Stark family.

So something bugs me about this whole setup for the Accords.

All of the operations where the Avengers are shown causing collateral damage are likely important enough to merit them anyway.

Invasion of Earth by aliens? Fuck yes send them in and Hulk would still drop some bricks on someone who was bothering to film instead of running for fucking cover during an invasion. Nevermind that the World Council just wanted to nuke the portal and the city with it. Fury disobeyed a direct order. Now hopefully they won't actually give a UN panel nuke launch authority but some of those signatory countries may just push for it anyway.

Washington DC? Hydra infiltrated SHIELD and the World Security Council. Alexander Pierce was the Sec Def promoted to the World Council. Whatever panel they use can surely be infiltrated by bad guys able to pay them just like Zemo did. Then to stop super helicarriers from eliminating people across the US they will be knocked out of the sky.

Sokovia? Stark caused it, sure, but once Ultron was running amok who else would stop him? He'd still life a city and people would still have buildings dropped on their head. Just like New York they were trying to stop the threat while mitigating civilian losses as much as they could.

Lagos? Hard to say if they'd have called in the Avengers for Crossbones unless they knew he was after some bio weapon and if it was suitably bad. Shit still happens on the job and regrettably innocent lives are lost in conflicts all the time. Doesn't make it any less a tragedy but nobody yet has found a way to stop all collateral damage.

Basically I can't think of a single thing the Accords would do that would have stopped any of the shit that went down. It was exactly what Cap said, just Tony could blame someone else with making the call to act so he doesn't feel the guilt when things go bad.

It's not really about stopping shit as much as it was about they needed to have some way for these guys to take accountability instead of literally no recourse. The point was none of this was their intentional fault (in fact the entire plot of CW was none of their intentional fault either) but who takes the responsibility anyway?

Its ok but not as good as WS.

Good
>Central storyline/conflict
>Emotional Cap/Iron Man moments
>Zemo
>Spidey

Bad
>Pacing
>Editing
>All those subplots that added little/nothing; making the movie convoluted
>Civil War but not really (not sure if good thing or bad thing)

I liked the movie but honestly it would have worked better if it were a straightforward Captain America movie. The central story between Cap, WS, and Zemo + Iron Man as a small supporting role would have made for a great movie. But making the movie out to be this huge conflict with all the Avengers, a ton of new characters, and all these subplots detracted from the movie.

Basically the movie feels like a Captain America: Winter Soldier sequel with an Avengers movie shoehorned in. In the same way Batman v Superman is a Man of Steel sequel with a Justice League movie shoehorned in. Both films suffer from nearly the same problems too.

I don't know. Consider Tony actually presented this drawn out mopey holographic simulation of being a troubled kid and having parent issues to an entire class before just handing them free money. That entire scene screamed that Tony was trying to paint himself in a sympathetic light to the public instead of just being the guy who created Ultron and nearly fucked over the planet.

Bonus points if in the future it turns out that 1/3rd of those students whose projects he funded ended up creating some technology or got into a lab accident that turns them into super villains. Because every single movie he's been in Tony ends up creating or otherwise inspiring/empowering a villain.

It's tough, I'd say it's roughly on par with Winter Soldier but maybe a little below it because it's an Avengers movie rather than being Cap 3 and what it deals with is different. It simply has a lot more moving parts and characters, so it doesn't have the same level of focus as Winter Soldier.

That said, it is unambiguously the best Avengers movie. It juggles it's last cast and it's wider scale pretty much perfectly.

Those knife-gauntlet things were the right balance between ridiculous and genuinely cool.

And I know people are burned about Crossbones dying, but honestly that character is done. There's really nothing interesting you can do with him if you aren't doing Death of Cap, it's not like he's a richly nuanced character filled with multitudes worth exploring.

I'm just pissed because I didn't realize my theater's thursday showings had this god-awful pre-show 30 minutes before. I just wanted good seats, but I had to sit through this cover band doing generic rock, horrible cosplayers acting for the kids (overweight cap, ebay budget suit spidey, and cheap ass wig storm), a "costume" contest with mostly people in t-shirts competing, and a ticket drawing that was really just an ad for x-men apocalypse.

I have some issues with the resolution of some of the character arcs and a couple of the action bits were a little too shakey-cam for my tastes, but I still really enjoyed it overall.

The most surprising thing about it was how well they integrated Panther and Spidey into the story without them feeling forced.

>If Tony's armor is that weak, how does it stay together after being hit by way worse shit? A super human stabbing him with a piece of metal is only the equivalent of like a car hitting you or something.

It's titanium alloyed with some gold, varying from 1 to 4 cm in thickness depending on the area. Note that Steve's hits did almost no damage to the armor until he sat on top of Tony and repeatedly bashed the thinnest part of it (the helmet) until it broke. Also, note that the arc reactor isn't really well protected.

>Cap's strength is only about 800-1000 pounds.

Uh, he lifted a motorcycle with three women sitting on top of it in the first movie over his head with no apparent effort. That's already 1,300 or so pounds right there and it didn't seem to strain him at all. He's probably a multi-tonner in this 'verse, though still below Iron Man's brute strength (IM overpowered Bucky's metal arm, which Steve was unable to do even with both arms), which was specified in the first movie (trouble lifting a sedan) + third movie (Mark 42 can only lift 900 pounds in the air, check his HUD in the plane rescue sequence; of course it could lift more with the ground as leverage) + promotional art for the second movie to be about 3 tons at max.

Why did they keep quipping?

I almost fucking busted out laughing when Falcon said "You know you're not supposed to talk during fights, right?" to Spiderman.. but then they KEPT FUCKING TALKING

Bucky vs Tony vs Cap was the only good fight in the movie. The Winter Soldier was better. Suck my dick.

And yet Vision almost killed Falcon or Warmachine, and Cap and Bucky were almost crushed to death under that conning tower.
>>

Same reaction here. He sounded like he wanted to burst into tears and then drink himself to death. Then Cap just left him there to stew in his own regret and loneliness.

It would have been much more tragic if he actually did kill Bucky though. How would he go on after that? How would Steve treat him after that? Would Tony even be able to live with himself after he calmed down?

That's a what-if I want to see.

Cap took the shield and slammed it into IM's chest piece. Buildings and shit, or more realistically cars, which broke his arm, have a lot of force spread out over a large area. Tony's suit is probably designed to withstand and absorb that force, spreading it out over other systems.

Caps shield is like an axe. Lots of Force focused into a edge. Throwing the shield didn't do much damage to him, but Cap basically took a big vibranium axe and smashed it full force into iron man's chest. The fact that cap didn't cut ironman in half is a credit to the suit.

Hell, the suit still had fucking power running through it. Enough that Tony could still walk with all that shit on him.

It makes sense that Howard Stark probably DID leave his notes behind and allow Shield to replicate that formula, and the assasination merely allowed Hydra to kill him and incidentally get the Serum.

SHIELD probably stopped the program because the serum caused mental issues. While Hydra found that out as well with the 5 chosen agents going crazy, they probably still was able to use them by applying the same mental conditioning they had with Bucky. But since Bucky was good enough for the jobs he needed to do Hydra never actually activated the other 5.

Quips or not, it worked well for the movie because the truly dramatic scenes were clear cut and dry.

No one was joking when Crossbones blew himself up and the aftermath.
No one was joking when Rhodey almost died. No one was joking when Tony saw his parents murdered on tape.

The problem with Whedon was he had jokes at all the inappropriate places.

I don't know why people don't understand this difference.

Yeah, I was wondering about that at the beginning of AoU. If Thor is willing to help out, just send Thor. Plus Hulk. Plus Iron Man if you really want to put the lock on the door, though he's a maybe (there's a risk of him just dying, because 1-4 cm of gold-titanium won't do crap to protect against heavy weapons).

Sending Captain America, Black Widow, and Hawkeye was just putting them in a situation where they very easily could be killed for almost literally no benefit.

Welcome to the world of politics. Its not about being effective, its about accountability and fall guys.

Accords weren't needed for New York and Hydra because SHIELD was still around to reign them in somewhat.

Sokovia would have been entirely avoided along with the second movie had Stark simply returned the gem like he was supposed to.

Largos didn't really require a super human response. CIA or some other anti WMD orginzation should have been on top of that.

Were the accords perfect? No. But sending wrecking balls to hammer in nails wasn't the answer either.

Tony is still running on PTSD and guilt, which was clouding his judgement since IM3. It isn't that he is not learning form his mistakes, it is that he is taking the extreme measures to correct them. >Were the accords perfect? No. But sending wrecking balls to hammer in nails wasn't the answer either.
Who was the wrecking ball exactly? They didn't send in War Machine or Vision. They didn't call in Thor or Hulk.

Two enhanced humans, a guy in a flight suit, and a super spy. And if you'd paid attention they weren't quite sure what Crossbones were after, they just knew he was about to start shit. They were there because he was Hydra. I seriously doubt the CIA are up to the task. Not that anon but "dedication and artist" smacks of weasel words, especially in a forum like this. It's like "stakes" and "risks" and a dozen other meaningless and fallacious buzzwords bandied about in an attempt to appeal to intellectualism and form a courtier's reply counter argument.

Largos was a well calculated hiest done by people with sophisticated gear. A problem yes but not something requiring rogue superhuman mercenaries.

But lets roll on and say the avengers aren't there but instead on the paper leash. Incident happens, world goes on alert, and countries either sic their agencies on Crossbones or after a town gets fucked up, let the avengers handle it.

Its not perfect but CB and his crew just isn't super hero response level imo and the avengers can't be allowed to pick in choose what not meta conflicts they get involved in around the world.

>>82539760
I'd say the chick who could throw cars around with her mind counts as a wrecking ball.

Really I blame less of the problems on the team itself and more of it on the fact the world governments failed to create a force to fill in the hole left by SHIELD.

That would be nice if they did a future Iron Spider, especially if the tech gets out of his hand or otherwise starts a kind of arms race that leads to Scorpion or Vulture suits.

Still feels weird how Tony recruited him and then just suddenly told him to go home. I guess after Rhodey asked about it Tony realized he did just send a high school kid after Captain America and Winter Soldier.

It's also a nice little nod to him helping that kid in Iron Man 3 by giving him his own workshop. That kid better grow up to become Kang the Conquerer.

Then why did he shoot the camera? How did they know it'd be that specific tree? How did Zemo know about Dec 16 1991?

She's actually less conspicuous than a guy dressed as an American flag. Her powers are both pinpoint and yes she can use them in large ways (Rhodes can do similar with his various ordnance but he's still a walking tank), but until she tried and ultimately failed to contain that grenade the biggest feat of power she did was clearing gas out of a building.

Note how much of that building was wrecked as opposed to the grenade he dropped in with Natasha. That wasn't any standard issue weapon. That was a say goodbye to a sizable portion of the block device.
>>
>>82540232
Zemo knew about the Winter Soldier, he knew what he was used for, and he pieced it together that he was the one who would have killed Howard Stark.
>>
>>82540275

Why did he try to kill her with a grenade that had a 20 second timer, again? He could have just turned her head into jelly by punching her. Or used a regular grenade.

>Twenty seconds
It was like, five, max.
Widow is a hand-to-hand champ and she's slippery. You need to trap her to kill her.
>>
>>82540342
I had a bit of trouble telling what happened but looked like she dropped the first guy so he was on top of the grenade and then held the other guy as a human shield to further cushion her from the blast.

Of course in the real world even if she'd lived she'd never be able to hear again, but comic movies most certainly are not the real world.

Probably not a traffic camera at that point in history, but we don't know where they crashed. Could have been a security camera at the edge of his massive property. One of those lovely little pieces of real estate that require 10-20 minutes of driving just to get to the perimeter fence.
