How does he do it?
its like if the guy who wrote XKCD was funny
>>82538519
never seen Super Mega comics?
>>82537096
Each and every one of these is a masterpiece.
wtf
>>82540290
he has a patreon now and tell his writing process
>Over the years I've noticed that there are things I avoid when writing a comic. Michelangelo once said "I'm a scuptlor and when I have a hard block the important part is to break away all the bad things and what you have left is your sculpture." I avoid all the things I don't like doing, and what you have left is Super Mega:
MANTRAS OF SUPER MEGA
-No jokes/puns
-No pop culture references
-No real world observations
-No politics/social commentary
-No characters
-No ongoing plot
-No interesting facts taught
I feel like obvious jokes/puns are a cheap shot and not really funny because when you reuse old joke structures you're not really adding anything new to the world. I especially hate puns because they don't translate well into other languages. Doing puns self-aware and ironically is yet another joke structure that's been done before, so I avoid it. I'm not a fan of real world observations (like witty stuff a stand-up comic might say). I don't feel like pointing out why folding tables are weird or something is the job I want to do writing comics. That's a personal thing. Politics and social commentary quickly become dated and they alienate people. Also it just feels dumb and preachy and weird! No interesting facts taught. I just don't feel like it's the job I want to do. Lots of other comics do it and it's a good thing, I just don't care about learning interesting things and telling you about them, that's not my thing okay
He's also doing a kickstarter for a super mega book sometime soon

here's him talking about the kickstarter
This looks like the guy who made the "my calculations tell me life shouldn't be so bad" image
>>82540603
It is.
>>82541133
why I find this funny, I will never know
>>82541182
Because timing > content.
The reason why rape jokes are funny and women are not.
Has anyone seen the one where there's a box that a guy sits on and it keeps growing? In the end someone just tells him "good luck on your adventure."
Oh wow, last time I checked the website it didn't seem like there had been any updates in a while, so I thought the guy had stopped. He makes absolute gold, so I'm glad he's still going.
>>82541408
Now everyone has seen it!
>>82541365
why do rape jokes have better timing than other jokes?
Does anyone have Spike Suit?
>>82541854
>I'll catch you!
>I hope not
>>82542002
Jesus christ this can't be that funny.
These comics are like the result of a three-year old writing down their dreams. I have no idea what the hell I'm reading but they still somehow manage to be funny sometimes.
>>82541990
this one is extremely sophisticated
Doesn't the creator have mental problems or something?
>>82542346
Good description.
>>82537096
Ah, I don't have to post the new one.
The burger part is really the highlight. In some other strips he would have just stopped there.
>>82542645
I don't get how some of these have actual punchlines and some are just not jokes at all
>>82541990
Never opened
Never enjoyed
>>82542679
Some of them have both.
Just thinking about this thread blows my mind.
>>82542769
I love how the build-up is completely unrelated to the punchline.
>>82542864
I feel like you could make this into a commentary.
>>82542926
This comic has a lot of bears.
I liked this recent one.
>>82542963
And lasers.
>>82542769
this one is especially brilliant
>>82542998
Imagine a live action adaptation of these comics.
>>82542926
relatable
>>82543017
Don't think it would work. The simple facial expressions are half the charme.
>>82540419
>-No pop culture references
>-No politics/social commentary
I am glad he sticks to this, makes it more timeless.
>-No interesting facts taught
>-No real world observations
These, however, are things that I feel he does, but maybe not in the way he means it here.
>>82543054
>Second panel
>>82543186
I think it'd be really hard if not impossible to strictly follow all of those rules.
Also, he does have recurring characters/plots to an extent. I remember a few multi-parters and re-used characters unless he's changed that now.
>>82543260
>this thread
god bless america
>>82540146
>chups! I mean chips! Chups!
That killed me.
>>82543302
Yeah, he has had recurring characters like Confused Bear or Head Is A Dinosaur, but he probably meant actual characters with personalities that are featured throughout all of the comics.
>>82543561
>I didn't ask for this
>>82542375
>that past panel.
>>82540898
Something about that is perfect. I think it's the weird pacing from having so many planels. Top-tier anti humour. I'm in love.
I think if everybody said/did what was on their mind at all times, IRL would basically be Super Mega. It's just pure stream-of-consciousness.
>>82543186
I think it's more that he doesn't try to teach or make observations. It happens unintentionally.
>>82543348
>no puns
still it made me laugh so I'll allow it.
>>82543747
This one's 2deep4the world.
>>82544449
This one is amazing
>>82544362
He makes observations about humans themselves.
>>82540184
Wow, that is just so deep.
>>82542402
Holy shit this one is incredible.
>>82544746
That's only because he himself is human, surrounded by humans. It's impossible for his humor to not be observational in some form.
>>82544847
>So this is what it's like to have a horrible life
apt observation.
>>82541133
>I have free will to do what I want but I choose to oscillate
Well that hit too close to home
>>82542211
spike suit
>>82541133
>>82541990
Same premise as Sausage Party. But 100x funnier while also not costing a dime to make.
>>82541843
They're much more of a surprise
>>82541656
This is fucking beautiful
>>82548237
>This guy only makes dollars a month off these
I don't know how to fell about this.
>>82550111
He's been doing this for years and years.
I was introduced in a /b/ thread in 2006 I think
>>82550111
He set the donation amounts really low ($1 and $3) and he just did it for fun until recently. I'm sure he's fine.
I think my favorite part of these are the black panels, like he realized the comic ended and just has nothing else left to say with the remaining space.
>>82541133
>>82541615
>>82541718
these wouldn't be quite as funny without the black at the end.
>>82541133
I wish I had the willpower to pursue something as nobly as that fan.
>>82540125
>>82542930
for this particular one, I like to think of it as willingly joining a degenerate fanbase just so you can have a community to socialize in and have friends
