Read Frank Miller's Daredevil, or really anytging written by Miller in the 80s

Look for Marvel Masterworks. It's a good introduction to classic Marvel shit, while its not all very good you can get hook up with a character and keep up from there

Regardless of whether or not you like it or the story it tells I think it's worth a read for the art and it's interesting portrayal of Bats and his villains. Plus it's short and easily available so it's not like it's a big investment to read it.

Honestly I hate Civil War for being unnecessarily grim and edgy and nonsensical and overall terrible except for the art but if you haven't actually read Comics you can read it and find enjoyment. It's a very casual centric event. Once you get to know what Marvel universe is like, you'll understand why it's hated.
