The only reason Jimmy was so feminine was because Sarah was the only who hung out with him, and Sarah was a spoiled brat so she would be pretty dominant and impress her girly interests and activities on him pretty early on.

Ed, Edd n Eddy was treated surprisingly well, all things considered.

There was the first 'series finale' where all the kids are old but still live on the same cul-de-sac, revealing the entire series up to that point took part in Eddy's memories as an old man, which was sincere enough to be touching.

Then there were the longer holiday episodes - Valentine's, Hallowe'en, and Christmas - which were all neatly self-contained, extended episodes.

Then Seasons 5 and 6 kind of wobbled, after the kids went back to school during the autumn, and the show switched to digital colouring. Kind of the point where you could tell they were running low on ideas for episodes - Eddy reinvents himself as Carl, the kids each try and stop doing their annoying habits, Ed looks after Rolf's animals.

The 'Big Picture Show' might have wobbled a teeny tiny bit, too - the sunflower field and the gag factory just sort of happened - but the ending drew such a perfect line underneath the whole series. The teaser with Jonny and Plank at the end seemed like insurance, though.

...although, thinking about it, Season 5 had a genuine character moment for Ed when, after Edd gets a reputation for violence in school, Ed is the first to step in his way when he sees Sarah at risk. It's nice that the cartoon acknowledged Ed's love for his baby sister, even above how much he loved his friends and however much it tore him up inside!

I think the only real, true example of this is Jimmy, and how his evil, mean-spirited streak came out of that episode where he sold Eddy a fridge-sized ice lollies scam. The rest of the kids never really 'grew up' the same way, as time went on.

The field and factory just felt like padding. I know they at least had a reason to go to the factory, but they spend that much time there - and the field was pretty much just for the 'sextant' joke - they were just running down the clock until Edd would have to come up with another clue as to where to go next.

But yeah, I can re-watch the movie any time and still smile a little at the way everyone gets a genuine 'happily ever after' ending.

...well, besides you-know-who.

i think the only likely crime would be the sucking out of any child-like imagination, replaced with adults in cartoon kid bodies. Season 1 had A Glass Of Warm Ed, which more than makes up for the rest. Maybe the Fad Freaky episode helps too.

Basically autists ruined it for everyone. There's DVD rips of the first 2 seasons: get those if you can find them. Although I don't know if you'll be able to without torrenting them. I just took a look at the iTunes rips for 1 and 2 from >>82502655 and they're way lower quality.

Other than that, iTunes rips for anything else. So that's Seasons 3-5, Season 6 (which is just May I have this Ed/Look before you Ed), the 4 specials, and the movie.

Actually, season 6 and Hanky Panky Hullabaloo are the only ones I still only have tv-rip quality for. Everything else is easy to find in higher quality.

There's very little references to pop culture (only one that comes to mind is a mention of James Bond in the first episode); most of the technology is somewhat retro, but in a way that's rather cartoony; same with the decorations and clothing.

The creators did their best to make the setting very ambiguous as far as what time period it was set. Partly for an atmospheric thing, but largely so that it would age well.

In hindsight it really fucking amazes me how the show pulled off the cul-de-sac being some miniscule, seemingly isolated as fuck area in the middle of Bumfuck, Nowhere. Just that, the junkyard, the trailer park, and later on the school. It's rather eerie actually. But then these maps just completely shatter my perception of the setting. Crazy.

What is it with this specific show, where you have to see it as a kid first to appreciate it?

Like, I know my parents always hated it, and I've heard of a bunch of other parents hating it, and I've never heard of someone watching it for the first time as an adult and loving it.

But for the people who first saw the show as a kid, it's almost unanimously praised and held in the absolute highest esteem, considered to have aged beautifully. And these are the same people who are more than capable of admitting other shows from their childhood were flawed, or at least not as good as Ed Edd n Eddy, and the same adults who can totally enjoy shows like Spongebob or Dexter.

Why do you seem to have to watch EEnE as a kid first in order to appreciate it?

How can my feet smell if they don't have a nose?

Where can I watch the movie in HD? Better yet, the series too. Did it ever get an HD release?

I feel experiencing at first as kids is what allows us to open our minds to it and not take everything with standards. Kids aren't critics. They are very easily entertained in general. Then when we look back in nostalgia to figure out why we enjoyed it so much, we're caught by the amazing humor and execution that holds up even today.

If you see this as an adult, you'd most likely look down it primarily for being a cartoon, and not expect much from it as it's targeted towards kids. Then there's also the common criticism that it overall looks ugly, which I disagree with, that would put off someone from trying to continue on with watching. Maybe it's from the fact that my long exposure to the show has allowed me to appreciate the its many aspects that I think it looks good.

Cartoons in general are appreciated mostly by people who grew up with them, and it's these people who can find the real gold that makes them as great as they are because they just overall give cartoons a chance.

It was its mix of the mundane and the surreal, it captured perfectly what its like to be a child. It captures that feeling when your just hanging about in your quiet street with your friends, discussing stupid shit. the moment you come up with that brilliant idea. The moment you first manage to clime the tree. That moment the prank you and your friends planned goes right. that feeling of joy/disappointment when that contraption you and your friends built worked. It also captures how much bigger the world seems as a child and how your imagination makes something so mundane so spectacular.

It also taught you lessons but in a subtle, not hackneyed way.
Don't constantly swindle people or you lose there trust.
Don't promise more than you can deliver and other little bits you could glean from each episode.

In the end I just think ed edd n eddy epitomized what childhood felt like for so many kids in a goofy and over the top and charming way and now it is a reminder to a bygone simpler day for people who watched it its a last tether to a childhood long gone

I honestly liked that Jimmy was a little shit. This episode was definately my favorite. Every character was involved in some way and every joke hits. The greater emphasis on slapstick and Edd's expressions through the camera also help.

What would you sat to a mockumentary "behind the scenes" episode where the characters are actually actors and are completely different off set? I think it'd be hilarious. Like Jimmy could be some grizzly sounding hunk, Eddy could have a girl's voice and Rolf is the most American man you could meet
