Captain America: "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain." I can do those things, because I'm not a hero. I don't deserve this shield.

Iron Man: No, you can't! You're not!

Cap: I'm whatever the Accords needs me to be. Call it in.

Tony: They'll hunt you.

Cap: You'll hunt me. You'll condemn me, set the dogs on me, because it's what needs to happen. Because sometimes the truth isn't good enough, sometimes people deserve more.. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded.

Peter Parker: Cap? Cap! Why is he running, Mr. Stark?

Tony: Because we have to chase him.

Parker: He didn't do anything wrong.

Tony: Because, he's the hero the Avengers deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So, we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a proud patriot. A watchful protector. The First Avenger.

Someday you will be faced with sadness
Worrying all alone in the night

Softly a hand will reach your heart
In the depths of your mind
Something will begin to awaken

Surely I can become stronger

Someone who has lost the light
Cries with tears softly falling
Feeling your own helplessness
Still, even if it is only a little
The thought that you want to be better
Will become kindness and wrap around you.

Someday you may lose sight
Of the dim light ahead
And be desperately searching
So I will keep singing

If you lose everything
And can’t see through your tears
Feeling isolated and alone
When everything seems awful
And you don’t understand
The meaning of living
Surely Someday…
Surely Someday…

Beyond the sky
The day when you can see it
Will surely come someday

Searching for the meaning of happiness
Trusting in tomorrow again and again
Even if it seems you will be crushed and broken
Everything in me marks the end of that
Until that day I vow I will not give up

Surely Someday
Until that day
Surely Someday

Am I forgetting something or did we get no closure on Black Widow? After she helps Steve at the airport Tony said Ross was coming after her and she vanishes for the rest of the movie. I assume she'd end up with Cap but he seems to be raiding the Raft solo and there's no sign of her in Wakanda. Seemed odd they'd just ignore her when they showed how everyone else ended up in the last sequence/stingers. Maybe she could sleep on Clints couch for a while, his family were supposed to be off the books so Ross might not know about them and I doubt Tony's looking for her.

Just think of all the characters that haven’t been introduced yet that are going to be introduced by the time that we’re working on Infinity War. I wonder how many of these people saying Tony should be held accountable for all the things he's done in the past and all the things that happened - indirectly - because of him are the same people crying about poor widdle waifu Wanda.

The arguments I've seen to condemn him seem repeatedly used to defend her. But he doesn't have a vagina so I guess he's a monster and she's misunderstood.

They've both done bad things, the difference is one is holding the other accountable for what they've done(though he's done just as much bad), while Wanda let her grudge against Tony go in AOU.

Also Tony is much older and more experienced, he should KNOW BETTER not to just leave her there with Vision. She left because she felt betrayed, knowing Tony didn't even trust her enough to talk to her face to face.

Tony did what he could to make sure she was comfortable given how hopeless the legal situation with her was. He wasn't holding her accountable, he was making sure they didn't put her in a straight jacket like they did in the Raft. He wasn't being an ass when he said he was protecting her. It was a shitty situation, but he made the best he could of it.

The irony is that Wanda probably realized that when they put her in there.

You don't get to 'feel betrayed' by something like that, just because you feel bad or apologize or start trying to do the right thing. Her little mindrape stunt in AoU fucked him up and led him to create Ultron. He's not actually an iron man, he's a severely damaged human being, she should expect him to be scared of her.

If he wanted her dead that would be one thing, but he's just afraid to talk to her face to face because of her own past actions. That should not be taken as a "betrayal."

I don't hate Wanda or anything, and I can sympathize with her. But everything that's happened to her she brought upon her own head at least as much as Tony, and everyone is acting like she's an innocent victim everyone is just bullying her for no reason. Meanwhile, Tony is responsible for everything wrong in the MCU and blah blah fucking blah.

It's the hypocrisy and eagerness to overlook all of Wanda's shortcomings that pisses me off.
>>
>>82442304

He doesn't notice the army of helicopters around his house before switching on the television for fuck's sake. Not only that, he also somehow figured he walk around in his half-finished piece of shit beta suit, and not one of the other 50 more powerful/endurable ones he has stocked up in his basement.

He keeps talking about how keeping Pepper safe is the most important to him, but doesn't budge when she wants him to leave the Malibu home with her, despite knowing she will be in as much danger as him if it's attacked. So basically his pride is more important to him than his girlfriend's life.

fuck that was nice to see. I needed at least one incident of that in the movie. Like, if the Avengers weren't there, Rumlow sells a bio-weapon and half a country is wiped out. If Wanda hadn't lobbed him skyward, the death count would've been triple the casualties actually inflicted.

Movie was okey. The problem is that looking back across the movies, the only person that really needs oversight is fucking Tony himself.
And zemo was a total waste of space. The movie would have worked much better without him. Honestly, the conflict would have been much more natural without him, and wouldn't have had such a simple resolution.
>>
>>82447224
But the conflict is not over.
>>
>>82447348
Yes it is. Caps letter to Tony instantly reconciles the two through the power of last minute words. Cap forms his own Secret-Avengers team which tony can use, the same way Coulson is Secret-Shield for President Ellis. Not that the tv show is relevant at all for the movie, but the comparison can be made.

Just got back and I'm going to regret posting this, but yeah, I was with Team Iron Man by the end.

I was neutral at the start and both sides had pretty fair points but all the events of the film felt like proof that yeah, they needed something to reign them in. ok yes I know it'll be abused because this is a film adapted from marvel but based on what happened in the movie

Steve seemed entirely motivated by his friendship with Bucky, he just happened to be right in this instance. Then he didn't seem at all interested in engaging or arguing his points.
There's standing your ground against the world and then there's ignoring and stomping over it.

How do you engage and argue with a man who is entirely motivated by misplaced revenge?

Bucky was a tool, a weapon. Tony wouldn't accept that because of his personal stake in things, and was willfully oblivious to Cap's point that a large organization can be corrupt.

We've seen from TFA that Cap will disobey orders for the greater good. This shouldn't be a surprise.

If we're talking about the end then yeah, you're not wrong. They're all pretty fucked up by the end.
>willfully oblivious to Cap's point that a large organization can be corrupt.
I never got the sense that Steve was trying to fight for his point, not with anybody.
His point that the large organization was a good one but it's not like you can just ignore it and hope it goes away.
And even that organisation has a point, the team really needed find ways of decreasing the chances of civilians being killed in their battles. Not to mention they're actions are going to affect and complicate international affairs. They couldn't just avoid responsibility.
>>
>>82451164
>>82451494
>Cap will disobey orders for the greater good.
It all hinges that Cap's always going to know the greater good. Which will be true as long as the studio say so but from an in-universe point of view.

Cap to me looked like he was avoiding responsibility and his actions felt inept and short-sited.
>>
>>82451597
But Cap wanted to take responsibility and not pass it off to the UN? His actions were perfectly legitimate considering the amount of corruption and politics that would stop the avengers from ever being able to stop a crisis again under orders from the UN.
>>

howard mason.jpg
49KB, 1280x720px
That's what he gets for trying to impress a poser.
>>
>>82451672
That's why I was neutral at the beginning.
But what were his plans for taking responsibility?
What where his plans for dealing with UN as an entity without joining them? and the politics that they would inevitably affect?

But after that his main motivation seemed to be protecting Bucky, and maybe dealing with Zemo. He didn't seem to be thinking about the consequences, just his immediate surroundings and circle.
I would have had way more confidence if he did more to argue his very reasonable point at the start.
>>
>>82451981
we never really got to find out because of the events in the movie, his arguments were placed forth and pretty much afterwards he had to protect his friend and deal with Zemo. Also say I agreed on the points about Cap and his side, why is team IM the right choice? That end of things is still wrong and shouldn't happen even if cap's way is wrong.
>>
>>82452063

Well, to be honest, IM isn't completely wrong, the whole problem rests solely on the assumption that people are corrupt and as such, the UN will control the Avengers for their interest.

But if we take out the whole "corruption" from the equation, everyone on the table would sign on a heartbeat. Including Capt America.

Black Panther sums it perfectly the whole situation when talking with Black Widow for the first time.

"I agree with the Accord, not with the politics."

The Treaty is good, it makes sense, the real and only problem is that it's run by men, and men are falible.
>>
>>82452063
I say I agreed with Team Iron Man at the end or I guess the call for regulation since the destructive behaviour on all sides seemed to prove the need for it.

At least if they has signed this thing, they could work together to play the system as much as everyone else done. Or at least engaged in dialogues to get a fairer or better deal. I mean it's not like their voiceless.
You have to engage with something if you want to influence it.

Honestly though it really was something that should have been thought of when the Avengers were founded.
>>
>>82439968
>His mother's name is Maria!
>>
>>82452381
But the point of TWS was that you can't have a government like that and not get corruption. It's a daring point to make and they sweep it under the rug because "LOL SUPER NAZIS ALL DEAD NOW".

Cap had to defend an innocent man who was tortured and brainwashed. Would it be easier if Cap could hand him over to someone who can help? Sure. But there's no way of knowing that HYDRA won't just take control of him again.

>>
>>82452581
>his friend's name is James!
>>
>>82452753
But Cap didn't seem to have a plan for how he was going to protect him other than to hide.

Corruption is inevitable but so is the fact they exist and their integral to the structure the world is built on.
If they were on "friendly" terms with the governments of the world, at least then they might be able to find ways of protecting Bucky without openly antagonising the powers of the world.

Or just any sort of alternate plan.
>>
>>82453113
After the HYDRA blow out there really was nowhere safe. They had agents EVERYWHERE, they almost got that death machine up in the air and nobody would've been the wiser.

That's HYDRA's deal. Cap just cut off a few heads.
>>
>>82445006
>he's never done anything intentionally destructive out if spite.
He did intentionally treat Wanda terribly because she is not American, and said so.
>>
>>82453113
Bucky was fine until the powers of the world let Zemo have a go at him. Placing Bucky under control of another organization that can easily be infiltrated is the worst choice. Pierce himself was a trusted public figure and we saw how he abused that to have control over Bucky. Somebody like Bucky really is best off the grid and hidden so that Hydra or more Zemos can't get to him. T'challa is the only one with the technology they can trust in this case. Government is fallible because it operates under the assumption that the people in power are good and making the right choices.
>>
>>82452753
>Would it be easier if Cap could hand him over to someone who can help? Sure
Cap tried and then Bucky got Zemo'd.

People forget that Cap was ready to sign up for the Accords until he found out they essentially forced a number of his friends into living in glorified prisons like stockpiled weapons, waiting to be unleashes by a possibly corrupt system. Having Zemo then break in and activate Bucky's brain washing just solidified to him the fact the Accords and the people overseeing them were inadequate for the job.
>>
Why didn't they just destroy the quinjet? Especially vision when he was trying to block the hangar
>>
>>82453263
That's fair.
My disappointment in Cap came mainly from the fact that he didn't seem to have any intentions of dealing with the problem.
To me Tony seemed to be trying.

It's to the film's credit I guess that they did a good job of setting up a believable conflict with weight on both sides.
>>
>>82453714
Well, Cap can't fix the world. He said in TWS that he hated having to compromise to do good, and now the HYDRA thing only furthered his disdain for the whole political thing. He focused on keeping his best friend out of enemy hands, because he owes Bucky his life.

I can't fault him for that. He's had to watch the life he had crumble to dust. Saw all that he fought for perverted. And then he finds a remnant of his past that he can help.
>>
>>82453519
Perhaps I'd have been more impressed if they found an efficient way of keeping Bucky off the grid much earlier.
>>
>>82453814
Plus it quickly escalted from help Bucky not get shot on sight to trying to stop the super soldier plot and Zemo in Siberia. He tried informing Tony and wasn't listened to. They were ultimately wrong about Zemo's actual plan, but at the time rounding up Team Cap was the only choice.
>>
>>82453814
He was doing so on a global stage where other people were going to get involved whether he liked it or not.

It felt irresponsible of him to continue acting as though he were in a void.
>>
>>82453941
They didn't have time to try. Once they caught Bucky after he was Zemo'd, they thought they had to go stop something worse happening in Siberia that relied on Bucky's knowledge of the base. There literally was no time for Cap and Bucky to even breathe between everyone coming after them. They went with T'Challa after the dust settled.
>>
Good movie
Gonna see it again tomorrow
>>
>>82454052
And that was the point where should have stopped and started thinking a little more.
Think of a plan, try engage in talks again.
And really, wasn't sure if it was intentional on the part of the writers, but Steve never felt like he pressed hard enough with the knowledge they had. Same with the accord stuff.

>To me Tony seemed to be trying.
Tony is not trying, Tony is failing. And that is why Tony ended up breaking the Accords he signed himself at the end, because he tried to go by the book but Ross blocked him. Tony himself didn't believe in the Accords, he only signed it because he was always planning to break it in secret when he needed to. Cap just don't plan to sign anything at all unless he really WAS going to obey it.

The biggest problem with the Accords and one that nobody in the movie brings up, is that while they're a good idea in theory, the last time the Avengers worked under someone they almost nuked them and thousand's of civillians because they looked like maybe they might lose.

And that they want to put them in the hands of Thunderbolt Ross, the idiot who thought it was a good idea to juice Blonsky up on defective super soldier serum, regularlly tried to kill Banner for no reason and has a habit of treating superpowered people like shit.

The Avengers have really good reasons not to trust anyone who's telling them to do this but instead they treat it like it's an entirely moral issue alone.

Ultron was already in the works before the events of the movie happened.
Tony was going to use it anyway because he's tired of having to defend the planet.

Plus what she did was give visions to everyone about things that would make them afraid, she had no control over what was shown.

She could have shown him Pepper's dead body, for example.

I wonder, after the airport fight would the public even trust the Avengers anymore? Using a public place to have a brawl, no less an airport (even if it's evacuated and shut down).

It was close to two and a half hours long, managed to cover about 10-12 people's worth of story (even though some were kinda bare and straight to the point), and still worked great. So if there's any cut content, or a directors cut that goes more into detail on things that might have been overseen (who hired Crossbones, how was Scott actually brought on, what actually happens to Widow after the fight, how the team was arrested/how they ended up at the raft, etc, etc)

She says that again? You used her exact words from IM2 in your initial post, are you just referring to that scene? The words of one character regarding another shouldn't trump the actions of the character in question. I'm not arguing that he has an ego, but that he only thinks of himself and "me, me, me." Show trumps tell. The character has shown that he's deeply flaws and he knows it, and while he may objectively think he's hot shit (because the world has been telling him so since he was a child, because his father never did), emotionally he's a stew of disconnected feelings, self-hate and depression.

He's fucking tragic, and it's made all the more tragic that none of the people close to him have ever noticed, because until he recently started failing to hold it together he got the job done.
>>
>>82466481

I like that. Because what is the point? He doesn't have an army of space aliens, and THEY lost. To try to physically kill the Avengers with less resources than what Loki had at his disposal, is silly and futile.

No doubt he CAN fight, he is a former government black ops agent. But he is smart enough to know not to try to head-butt a brick wall. Do what it takes to win, not do what is the most glamorous.

He is tragic, but he still only following the accords because of his own personal pain. There is nothing wrong with that technically, at least it isn't illegal. But in the end Tony never really wanted to deal with the backlash and just think of the Accords as just something to appease the angry mums with dead sons.

Seriously? You actually think that? Zemo wanted revenge because his entire family died, that's a pretty understandable motivation, and it refelected perfectly with many of the themes of the movie. Wasn't Tony's whole motivation that he thinks he can bring in Steve, Wanda, Bucky, Sam, Scott, and Clint with less hassle than the government? Agree with the accords or not, I can't see why you'd disparage Tony for this. If any world government found what are effectively armed and dangerous fugitives (technically unarmed, but some have powers more dangerous than bullets) fleeing their law enforcement, to an armed jet no less, they'd probably open fire on them right there. Some or all of Team Cap would be dead.

CA3 speaks for himself.

And he's always been part of smaller law enforcement "cells" than an outright agent of the government

CA1: The SSR and the Howling Commandoes
CA2: "Real" SHIELD
CA3: The New Avengers

I didn't like it. I'm not trying to be divisive but I just felt fatigued by the whole thing. Did I enjoy it? Sure. It has some nice bits and the first two acts were not bad. But I just couldn't like it.

All these heroes and why? Another seemingly throw away villain. All these half attempts at themes but never really going that far or having any real meat and purpose to the story.

It just tired me out. Maybe I will like it more on second viewing. There were some moments that truly made me smile. But other parts? Urgh. It just felt like it was jack of all trades master of none. Too much throwaway bits for a plot that was meant to be, and probably will be treated as, the next big break like the Winter Soldier was.

Judging by the fact that Hulk was knocked out and received a concussion from a terminal velocity fall, and Thor was heavily injured by having a large (60-ish tons) rock thrown at him at 30 m/s, you don't need to have something anywhere near as strong as a nuke to kill them. An AGM-65 would more than suffice.

The problem are not the people. The problem are the governments who are used to being at the apex of the food chain, and now they must manage independent guardians that do not give a damn about their tricks and agenda.

Accords were a right idea, per se. However, in a world like that of the Avengers (with gods and aliens), a minimum of independence there has to be for them. They just need to puts quite clear that those who make mistakes, must face specific responsibilities and, if possible, reach an agreement with the various countries about common rules.
>>
>>82480816

Yes. Banner gets taken out by a surprise tranquilizer dart at one point in his own movie.

>>82480867
He was probably half-Hulk by the time he pulled the trigger. Remember that he hulks out based on his heart rate, hence why he can't have sex. If you're about to kill yourself, your heart is probably pounding very fast. We actually do see him try to kill himself in a deleted scene in "The Incredible Hulk", but again, he's mostly transformed before he can do it.

It'd be different if was just caught completely off guard by a third party.

I find it mildly funny that Scarlet Witch is gaining prominence in the MCU and they can't use her in most games, merchandise, etc. because of the Fox problem.

It almost seems like she became an important MCU character by default because they don't have Carol Danvers (they were thinking of introducing her in AoU and having her in the Civil War) or the new Wasp (her debut was postponed from Civil War to the Ant-Man sequel). They're severely low on superladies and so Wanda may have stumbled into a more important part than she was supposed to have, I don't know.

>No. They're just petty. Same reason FF got cancelled. Same reason the X-Men has been completely reduced.
It's not just being petty. The thing is Marvel has to consider "Opportunity Costs", in that instead of marketing Wanda, they might get more for their money by investing their resources in something they actually own.

Much like with the comics; they COULD publish F4 comics or X-men comics, but they would benefit more if they publish comics that they actually could market fully instead like GotG.
>>
>>82488803
Marvel *could* do X-Men or FF merchandise and games if they wanted. No one's stopping them. They've just declared a cold war on Fox, so they keep those characters out as much as possible.

Scarlet Witch is a weird case because the MCU got her, and looks like it's keeping her around, but because Fox has some kind of claim on the character no other division of Marvel seems to want to do much with her.

Or maybe all the other divisions of Marvel are just Bendis fans.
>>

>Scarlet Witch is a weird case because the MCU got her, and looks like it's keeping her around, but because Fox has some kind of claim on the character no other division of Marvel seems to want to do much with her.
To be fair, she IS female and even Black Widow has only a limited amount of merchandise. Marvel will probably push their merchandise starting with Captain Marvel.

I'd be super-pissed at Bucky too for killing my mom and dad...if I didn't realize he was mind-controlled by HYDRA and I'd be a massive hypocrite for all the arms selling I did as well as unleashing Ultron.

I get that Tony has a mountain of issues like Daddy not loving him, PTSD, recovering alcoholism, and whatnot, but I really hope someone who lost a loved one to one of his weapons or Ultron goes after him. Then he'll realize what kind of hypocritical shit he is.
>>
>>82490105
The fact that Quicksilver is an unperson in Civil War (no mention of his existence except a hint that Clint owes Wanda for something) lends fuel to the theory that there's some kind of custody arrangement going on.

Sad for those of us who wanted to see Quickslav back to life, because they're not trying to set it up in any way.
>>
So how the fuck was Ross and Tony going to get Thor on-board? He's a prince of Asgard and only visits Earth to save it from danger. How are they going to compel him to submit to UN authority. Only Vision has the kind of power to stand up to him and even then, Thor is a blockbuster.

And no way in hell would Banner ever agree to being under Ross' authority. After the Ultron fiasco, I think Bruce would be better off partnering with Hank Pym over science.
>>
>>82490281

I know about Zemo, but that was a grandiose plot. I'm talking about someone who kidnaps Tony and Pepper. Tells Tony that your weapons or killer robot took my wife, I'm gonna take yours and then I'm gonna turn you into a vegatable or something.
>>
>>82490282
A lot of his interesting stuff IMO is tied up with his relationship with Crystal of the Inhumans, which the MCU isn't in a hurry to go for. It doesn't surprise me. I just wish Whedon wasn't such a hack and fleshed him out enough for me to give a shit about him before he died. After all the Russos managed to make me a fan of Rumlow and based Falcon in the span of the same movie they were introduced in.
>>

>I know about Zemo, but that was a grandiose plot. I'm talking about someone who kidnaps Tony and Pepper. Tells Tony that your weapons or killer robot took my wife, I'm gonna take yours and then I'm gonna turn you into a vegatable or something.
Tony already told us that he has a hundred people wanting to kill him, all the way back in IM3. The only thing different now is that instead of violent evil men wanting to kill him, he now has innocent husbands and mothers wanting vengeance. The difference means he couldn't "fight" these people, not like he could fight Obadiah Stone.

You can't have mystic Marvel with just Strange, otherwise its just a backwater, you need Wanda too to connect him to the wider MCU. Feige understands this and sees the Stephen/Wanda dynamic as an untapped goldmine.

Once she goes full ham in Infinity War, she'll then likely appear in DS sequel and Avengers 4. CW was her last street levell rodeo.

Right at the start. Joss said she'd never have to wear that and she was thankful because it's.. well it is what it is. Since she got told she doesn't have to wear it, and she clearly is happy not wearing it, we'll most definitely not see it.

woops, meant to reply to >>82496321

I think she's just glad she's in a movie where they are not using her just as eye-candy.
>>
>>82496375
I don't think she's ever been just eye-candy in any movie I've seen her in
>>
Just watched it, it was good but I dunno, some things seem a little off
>spiderman out of fucking nowhere
recognized just from a youtube video? or we have to believe peter actually put his web cartidges as a project to be founded
>Ironman trying to kill Bucky and actively tring to kill Rogers
kind of out of character, previous movies considered
>Zemo's plan based on revenge over his dead family
Dont really know about this, if he had been indoctrinated by his father to be a Nazi and wanted to avenge him, that would fit more the character, as in the movie he's just a prevois normal guy seeking revenge, fuck, movies with plot like this but viewed from Zemo's POV have been done before and showing him as the protagonist.

Probably over analizing a movie meant for fun times, blaming the hype and watching the traile over and over and expecting something grandiose.
>>
>>82496394
Yeah, but there's a lot of movies where she has nude or sex scenes, so I think she's glad she's in something with a lower tone in that regard.
I remember an interview where she got pissed when they asked her about what she thought of appearing naked in movies.
>>
>>82496422
Tony going apeshit was in character I thought. He's close to loosing it all throughout the movie, seeing the footage and realizing Cap wasn't as trustworthy as he'd been led to believe was the last drop. He wasn't trying to kill Rogers though. What gave you that impression?

Oh god no, don't think I'm upset at her or sperging. I get any objections she might have to it and am fine with her not wearing it. In fact I like her SW costumes more than the classic.
I'm just saying as a filthy degenerate it's a shame we'll never see it.

>Iron Man has been doing nothing since AoU, probably had time to look into Spider-Man after seeing a video, visit the sites where he's been, collect samples, track him ETC
>Iron Man literally watched his dad havong his face crushed by metal and watching his beloved mother murdered by the guy standing two feet away and his close friend not only siding with the murderer but also not telling him the information sooner
>Zemo's family gets murdered around him including a wife he clearly loved
The Zemo one is harder to explain since I think that's more your opinion but the other two points you kind of have to connect the dots yourself bud.

I think the problem is that he's not an inherently bad guy/Nazi as in the comics, instead he's just a tragic villain.

I think you kind of need to evaluate want you front from Zemo here too. Like, do you want kind of goofy purple hood Nazi or do you want a cold a methodical realistic villain. I've heard people say that his personality is the best part and that's where he succeeds in being Zemo.

Did any of the heroes ever learn Zemo's name?

I only remember him saying it to that HYDRA guy, but I don't think Cap/Panther/Tony ever heard it mentioned.

That should make for an interesting comeback, especially if the only thing they know about him is the face.
