They used to be. As much as I like IDW, the DC PPG comics are much better in my opinion. The art was pretty much identical to the show, and stories felt unique, whereas the IDW comics have a "fanficy" feel to the way characters talk and act.

That's cause a few of the DC comics were actually stories that didn't make it into the show, and with being made while the show was still going, they were more like a supplement.
