I actually didn't care about Hussie intervening in the story. Did he break his promise. Hell yes he did. But I still enjoyed his appearances because they were always humorous and he never became a protagonist or an antagonist. He was basically just playing the role of a trickster god (no not that kind of trickster). I've seen the author self-insertion done many, many times in other webcomics much more poorly than Hussie did it.

I think something about having the desire to withdraw from society can fuel the creative process. Those first two years of Homestuck, Hussie was so productive that it was difficult to believe that he was participating in society at all. But it's kind of a rare case where a creator is able to dictate his own schedule without having serious concerns about making enough to survive.

I talked about Homestuck and Hussie with a shrink friend of mine recently (his old "offensive" comics, his fanbase involvement and sudden radio silence, his mocking internet personality, his handling of the Homestuck IP with Kickstarter and WP's informal C&Ds...)
She eventually concluded that he had a narcissist personality type. Withholding the epilogue until an unknown date struck her as a way to keep us enthralled and dependent on him. We should be grieving the end of the comic, but his "it's over but not really until I feel like it" thing is preventing us from moving on.
When I mentioned Vriska (and how the narrative focused on her and let her get away with everything) she was like 'welp, that checks out'.
One thing is sure, Hussie doesn't strike us as very well-adjusted.

It lends itself less to chuunibyou than shit like kingdom hearts and most anime, since it doesn't try to get all philosophical for the most part and subverts expectations of melodrama. Chuunibyou is more of the DA-brand fanatasism. I think a homestuck chuuni would be the kind to claim they have a moirail and love in quadrants and act like their trollsonas, calling brains think pans and bath tubs ablution traps. So sure, they exist, but I think that's a pretty small part of the fandom.
