Is Transformers dead /co/?
>>
Uh, no?
>>
>>82388948
Anon you're completely out of the loop.
>>
Original is undoubtedly the best, at this point its just a milked out franchise
>>
Hell no.

Prime kicked ass, and RID is a visual treat with fun writing.

Plus a baller theme song

Also Rescue Bots will be the longest running TF series. It's pretty mature and entertaining for a kids show.
>>
>>82389794
I'd still like BW with updated graphics
But cars make better robot toys

I gave up on RiD, I don't like anything about it besides Strong-Arm
>>
>>82388948
No, there is a billion dollar movie franchise, two current cartoons, and a series of critically acclaimed comics with an autisticly and psychoticly devoted fanbase. And also some toys.
>>
>>82388948
No? It's doing pretty well for a toy property in 2016.

The art style is pretty bad (cel-shaded minus style? I dunno), the designs are retarded, the characters are dull, the stakes are low, and the source of conflict is literally cops and robbers
>>
Of course not.

TF5 is next year, the show will last until at least spring 2017, and the toys and comics are still on a steady stream.
>>
>>82395043
Wait, they're still making the live-action movies?
>>
>>82395114

Of course they are. They're already plotting scripts for up to TF7.

And thats not even counting a potential all-animation prequel set on Cybertron.
>>

Huh, I was thinking they gave up since the last one bombed.

After looking it up you're right, but I remember that it didn't make that much. I don't know what I'm thinking of but I could of sworn it did bad.

Windblade technically isn't an IDW OC

Hasbro made her based on what fans voted for, IDW just had to market her

Terrible OCs would include Rung, Tarn, Tyrest, Nautica, Drift before Hasbro adopted him wholeheartedly...I actually don't consider Rung or Nautica terrible, but I know a lot of folk do

>>
>>82396481
>I doubt we'll get any Generation-style toys of the RiD2016 crew in our lifetimes.

Why not? They made a Generations Lugnut only a few years after Animated ended. And while they weren't Generations style, LOckdown and Bulkhead got new toys too

I can honestly see Prime/RID characters getting new toys in the next5-10 years
>>
>>82396481
>>82396405
I wish she'd get a generations styled toy, I think the character looks cool (never watched rid), but her toy is very meh.
I can see her spreading out to modern G1 eventually, there's always that one character from new series that do, and I believe Strongarm will be the one.
At the very least, I can see her showing up in IDW like Knockout did, but that doesn't guarantee a toy.

most movies don't get more than 3 because there's a pattern that companies follow.

>movie 1 does reasonably well. drums up a lot of fan interest
>movie 2 makes the most
>movie 3 will make enough money to be justified in making one, pattern shows that movies made after that do not earn enough.
>>
>>82396644

>>
>>82396762
um, yeah?

That's exactly the point?

Anon was saying that we would never see a new Generations-style Strongarm (completely new character for RID) in our lifetime

But there's precedence since Lugnut and Lockdown (completely new characters for Animated) got new toys within a few years of Animated ending.

IDW is known for making grey characters on every side, having gay characters (which, face it, kind of make sense when, before the colonies were discovered, Arcee was the only female and she was a psycho forced-op tranny) and a handful of OCs

In addition, MTMTE is specifally known for hot robots and terrible things happening all the time

>Original is undoubtedly the best, at this point its just a milked out franchise

You are so fucking wrong. The last few years have been, by far, the best years for Transformers fiction. Up until about 9 years ago there where only really two examples of TF fiction that where mostly considered legitimately good; the G1 comic's latter half, and Beast Wars. Other series where competitors, too, but on the whole the amount of decent stuff was lacking. Then we got Animated, Prime, MTMTE, WfC/FoC, and so on. The last few years have bought an abundance of interesting new concepts and ideas and stories. Your entire post just reeks of "the G1 movie looked cool so therefore it was the peak". We've gone so far beyond G1 its amazing.
>>
>>82393405

You're forgetting Animated Megatron.

Personally I lost all respect for Prime Megatron when he killed Dreadwing. In general he felt like a step down from Animated Megatron in that he never felt like he united his decepticons. He felt too petty, too 80's villain. I did like his redemption, though.
>>
>>82397164
It had potential but according to hasbro, no one was buying the toys. After season two, Hasbro had to decide on to keep going with Beast Hunters or end it abruptly for an easier to sell "kid-merch friendly" TF series.

Doesn't help that The Hub was going under among all this too.

>>
>>82397242
I think they had to go this route because they wanted to go "monster of the week."

It's like with Prime, they had to use very few characters in order to get the level of animation they wanted

This time, they wanted a brand new Decepticon in every single episode...so they had to make a tradeoff to afford all those character models.

Which was a mistake since half those characters suck and the models will probably remain as one-shots

Cases in point: Ped, the Skunkticons, Terrashock. Three wastes of money right there

It was more The Hub dying than anything else. It cost several million an episode, and ratings were nowhere near high enough to justify that.

Although it had problems from the start; the writers wanted freedom, Hasbro wanted them to follow the new continuity. Then in season 3 the toy designers were pissed that their stuff wasn't being used.

>I don't get why people are so upset about gay robots
They're gay for starters. Plus they're not just random characters, they're characters that have been around since the 80's. It's only natural that somebody gets pissed off when their favorite childhood toy/character is suddenly gay.

And no, tranny Arcee doesn't make sense. Fembots should just be there with no explanation or have a less ridiculous one.

If you wanna go the "make sense" route, Arcee really doesn't, because IDW actually had female cameos such as Elita-One before Arcee's backstory, and now Caminus is full of them.
Arcee's backstory is not only stupid, but also a plot hole one way or the other.

No its the molds I have a problem with , its the fact that they use completely unique molds for many UW toys that either won't be released under the hasbro label or they're released for 20 minutes on the toyshop site and never again.

Here is UW Blast Off. IT IS A COMPLETELY UNIQUE MOLD.

Takara Computron uses almost entirely different molds compared to the Combiner Wars version. Takara Deluxe Groove isn't a repaint of Rook you idiot, its a different mold. Takara Blast off is a unique mold, not a repaint of a jet mold you idiot. Vortex uses an updated version of the Hasbro Vortex too.

Computron and Blastoff are the exception, not the rule. It's a sham that Hasbro dropped the ball on these two, but otherwise, I think the Hasbro combiners look better, except for Computron and Devastator.

Rook is a cooler mold than Groove, and Hasbro is still releasing a deluxe Groove that looks just like the Takara one anyway. Also, Rook is his own mold, so your argumentt is flawed there anyway.
>>

He only returned to cock tease Prime fans enough to get them to tune in

THat's it

And trapping him again...what other choice did the writers have?

As far as we know, the only person who could conceivably beat Soundwave in a fight is Megatron himself (and maybe Optimus I guess if they ever got into it?) because they pretty much showed him to be unstoppable in any fight he did get in

So either:
>Soundwave goes back to the Shadowzone
>Soundwave gets nerfed enough that team bee can actually defeat him and put him in stasis
>Soundwave completely wins...but then fucks off for no raisin. Probably leaves earth completely because having him stick around causes a loose plot strand

Honestly, all three are shitty options. They should have left Soundwave alone

Yeah, but that is the TV show. The comics which were closer to the intended universe had no gender roles to the Transformers because Shooter and had this as plot points in issues where humans and other aliens that are gendered would identify Transformers as male which confused them, especially when they had pretender shells where would give the impression of being a giant man when in reality they were neither male nor female. This also allowed there to be challenging of of gender stereotypes where character roles like Starscream or Ratchet would be females in other stories but instead were the same as everyone else.

I don't really mind lighter modes but somehow RID isn't really doing it for me. TFA was lighter hearted, so lighter hearted that the Autobots all had melee and other gadgets (barring BB's low powered stingers) and the seriousness was allowed to creep up a bit over time. RID is just sort of meandering. They need to find a decent showrunner who can tie all the disparate parts together and make sure the show feels like it's building towards something - and more important who knows what the hell it's building up to.

Would love to play as Decepticons, movie casts if they get in, maybe the japanese G1 too if possible 'cause God Ginrai and Star Saber are cool, and maybe the IDW G1 originals as well since Nova Prime is in already.
Speaking of which, I'm surprised to find out that everyone's favorite IDW editor Andy Schmidt was involved with the game.

>The comics which were closer to the intended universe had no gender roles to the Transformers
This all came about because initially Hasbro was against female Transformers only for female Autobots to show up rather early in the series, long before Arcee. The comics continued without and Furman was known to be particularly resistant to the idea having a rather, ahem, whimsical take on the matter in the issue Prime's Rib. He was equally deadset against it in IDW before later introducing Arcee as a self-loathing abomination to whom gender was forced. This guy has a great sense of comedy, apparently. And now we're at the point where females are coming out of the woodwork, showing up on multiple worlds. So many in fact you wonder what happened to them all on Cybertron.
>>
>>82436346
Some ideas at least in the IDW run:
1. The war killed them off. 1/13 ratio rule whatever.
2. The mass majority of cold forged and MTO bots are male looking templates. Athestics didn't matter for their purpose.
>>
When is IDW going to hire sis_shrieks?

There was this probable fembot who showed up in the alternate functionist universe Perceptor whoopsed into being. Kind of makes you wonder how she existed given their demand to understand the purpose in every form.

Of course we can speculate away about that character. Only looks female, a member of one of the colonies which Cybrertron may not have lost access to in the new timeline, or maybe a body-mod job specifically to piss off the functionists, or any other of theories.

I love most of them, but there's been a couple that simply didn't do much beyond attack, the spider guy from Season 1 for example, he literally was just evil and had an accent, that's fucking lame.

On the bright side they atleast give us a lot of fun colorful bad guys instead of "the same guys everyday we just never develop them.", I just wish we got more screentime for Glowstrike, but I'm hopeful she might do more since Season 2 was full of Season 1 guys getting a second wind.

The next few are more or less tied for me.
>G1: shit-covered classic, did some neat things for its time, has a lot of very memorable characters and ideas, it's a varied mix with some great stuff in it but also tons of trash.
>Cybertron: pretty fun, okay characters, pacing can be whack, had the potential to be much better
>Prime: looks nice, has some memorable moments and ambition, but next to no sense of direction and its world and most of its characters are boring garbage
>RID15: feels like all the fun and character they should have included in Prime became its own show, but that's not enough to make it good. Haven't seen the last 7-8 eps.
After these:
>Armada: like a retarded kid that produces something great every now and then, too bad you have to fish it out from under its own vomit

Kleptomaniacal master thief that steals anything that isn't nailed down? That's good shit. And I was damned pleased with RiD's take, which was that same characterization but with an additional gimmick to give his name a double-meaning - he can sub-divide into smaller bodies, so no matter how much you break him, he can survive if a single piece gets loose. I think the point was the Functionists wouldn't see it. They tend to go by their own strict rules in any universe they appear. These are the guys who are against alt-mode changes despite that being a natural part of their biology and easily achieved technologically if it isn't (does Transcan exist in IDW?).

And on another track you don't think IDW wouldn't jump at the idea of creating some metaphor for gender inequality by making the Functionists anti-femme?
>>
>>82450075
They are anti-masculine as well. No penes because organics fucking shits have them.
>>
>>82450137
They probably wouldn't be anti-male, or at least anti-masculine form, since as far as most other continuities fembots are a minority. They'd look at the majority form characteristics and then try to figure out why these "fembots" deviate, and for what purpose? I wouldn't put it passed them to do hypocritical forced reconstructions to make them conform to the male aesthetic.

They would not consider those ones male either however, and remove things resembling secondary sexual characteristics likes beards as well for not serving a purpose. Their ideal is lacking any sort of ornamentation or ability to function outside of assigned task.
>>
>>82450075
>>82450234
While I can see them possibly doing something like that, to force a gender-equality storyline, I don't see why the functionists would care about female robot modes, so long as the altmode served a purpose.

Seriously, the "purpose" of each Cybertronian is almost always based on the altmode, and what it can do for society.

Have we had any characters so far for whom the robot mode has any impact on their job?

Let's say you've got both Rewind and Flip-Sides (pretend she's in this continuity for the sake of argument)

They both turn into data slugs, they both fulfil the same purpose, why would the fact that Flip-Sides might be "more feminine" even enter the conversation?
>>
>>82421820

>>
>>82450424

>and remove things resembling secondary sexual characteristics likes beards as well for not serving a purpose. Their ideal is lacking any sort of ornamentation or ability to function outside of assigned task.

Unless I missed a story, where are you even getting that, that they don't even want varying body types or ornamentation?

I get that they promote all forms serving a function, but I don't recall that ever being applied to robot modes, just the altmodes and what task it can perform
>>
>>82450413
>They would not consider those ones male
No, they wouldn't. They'd consider them default, however the default would HAPPEN TO BE male. In practical terms it would make absolutely no difference.
>>
>>82450475
Divergent designs in something for doing the same task instead of easy to mass-produce and repair/replace is is not following function.
>>
>>82450534
so, it's nothing that's been specifically stated, it's just you guys hypothesizing about what the Functionist ideal is.
>>
>>82450587
Are you going to suggest that Functionism is not based on the Functionalism ideology that plagues architecture? applied to a people that have bodies that can be built or modified?
>>
>>82450424
That works only when you ascribe logic to the Functionists which they actually lack. They are something of religious fanatics when their gods being Form and Functions. You keep the mode you were born/created with and must serve this role in society. But they don't have to and can easily change to fit some other role in society, which would allow for new areas of growth and development, new industries, etc. The Functionists are against CHANGE in a race of beings for whom changing is their primary defining attribute.

Functionists represent extreme fundamentalists, fanatics. I wouldn't be surprised if they had their own Gashte Ershad, the Iranian "morality police", who look for immodesty and can chastise or arrest those who don't conform to their views. If they find someone who doesn't fulfill some role or purpose in society - as they decide what such things are - then they will keep tormenting you in prison until they figure it out or have you put to death.
>>
>>82450688
>I don't like these people, so they represent religion!
>>
>>82450650
I'm not suggesting anything, I'm just trying to figure out the purpose of this conversation about people thinking Functionists would be anti-femme bot, whether it was something that was actually stated or if you guys were just running with what you personally think the Functionist ideology would be for/against.

That's all.
>>
>>82450475
You have to remember that their robot modes have built in functionality as well. I cannot imagine they'd be happy if your robot mode contains two massive shoulder mounted doom cannons that conveniently do not manifest in your lowly street sweeper alt. In other words they wouldn't be pleased about the lowest classes weaponizing their bodies if the weapons become concealable by their alts.

A lot of their robot modes can manifest tools, weapons, gizmos. I'd imagine the Functionists would have something to say about these as well, though off the top of my head i don't think they have. At most I can think of bots like Rewind whose head mounted camera fits his role as personal recorder and data storage device.

A perfect Functionist society would not have that occur. You would be built a body that works efficiency for your task, and would consider doing your function the only part of existence that matters. This is a false dilemma of a cleaning specialist having weapons in robot mode.
>>
>>82450883
yes
>>
>>82449237

After Transformers Prime I can take anything, nothing will ever be as bad. I mean you can atleast make fun of Energon, Prime is just... awful AND dull.
>>
>>82450883
Self-righteous people that claim they are oppressed for having abilities above the common people that live in pleasure off the money of the wealthy while actually oppressed beings get killed systematically?
Yes.
>>
>>82450738
Well, they are a religious group, based on the principles of Adaptus. But that's neither here nor there.
>>
>>82450896
>This is a false dilemma of a cleaning specialist having weapons in robot mode.
I think you mean it is something they would actively work to prevent, which would be the exact point. The robot mode is NOT exempt consideration by the Functionists, more would they allow augmentation or alteration to it. The body is a temple to them, one where every stone must be left untouched.

It depends on what you mean.

Is Bumblebee an X-man because he can function better underwater despite turning into a car?
>>
>>82451098
Is it a power that is a result of being X-Gene positive and not training or exposure to mutagen elements like radiation?
>>
>>82451146
Seems to be a natural ability. I mean, why would he train for that on a planet with no water?

Actually, that's a good point. Outliers aren't X-men, due to Tailgate being a mutate, not a mutant.
>>
>>82451267
But there is water or some other liquid that a vehicle with large surface area can float on the surface of their planet.
>>
>>82451267
Maybe exposure to recent events activated his latent mutant abilities in his CNA. They don't all kick in at robo-puberty.

Taking severe trauma is called Tuesday on the Lost Light. Specific kind of trauma, I'd imagine.
>>
On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate the IDW comics?
>>
Can we just agree it would be better for Transformers to be genderless, but with some having masculine traits and others having feminine traits? I mean, "trans." It's right there in the name.
They don't need a gender.
>>
>>82451482
It works in comics, but for tv shows you need to hire voice actors which are male and female so that will not.
>>
>>82451538
It still works, you don't need to fucking say anything about it- just some have male or female voice actors.
>>
>>82451482
Hasbro sure doesn't agree.
>>82451538
>some having masculine traits and others having feminine traits
Besides, it's possible to get neutral sounding voices.
>>
>>82451573
Then they would be gendered by the method of speaking their voice actors have.
>>
>>82451482
>but with some having masculine traits and others having feminine traits?
This is mostly how I view them.
I also don't understand why things like sexuality are being discussed when transformers don't really seem to have preferences? Do they even have a concept of being gay or straight when technically everyone is the same?

I think the point with the Functionists is they had control, immense power over society, and it was really up to them to decide on a whim what they felt was the sin of non-conformity.

If they decided they didn't like female Cybertronians what do you do? I don't think there was a higher authority they could appeal to. I think the only reason the Senate allowed Shockwave to open his school was that the Senate, being the scheming assholes they are, saw a very definite potential function in society if they could learn what makes Outliers tick. The Functionists may not like it but uber powered bots are something the Senate could get behind and Hitler salute.

Everyone has different tastes. Everyone has something they like others hate, and vice versa. Prime wasn't bad. I'd argue it was even a Primus-send after Bayformers BUT it certainly had it's problems, especially in terms of throwing away plot points and characters. Big budget issues.

RID has issues, too, even though it corrected some by having a cheaper style that allows it to introduce far more characters. It's just sometimes equally bad at knowing what the hell to do with those characters. Especially villains. There's this ridiculous revolving door in terms of stasis pods. The Autobots should REALLY consider maybe relocating those to a more secure location or at least building one instead of just leaving them out in the fucking open the way they do.
