Long answer, he turned down work on DreamWorks Casper. I didn't like that movie.

It's good to know that Eric is more grounded than what was rumored.

His was one of the first sites I came across when I first started browsing the internet back in 1996.

I think I was searching for stuff related to the Sabrina the Teenaged Witch show and its recent transformation themed episode and Sabrina Online was at the top of the list. I think I searched for "Sabrina Transform". There must've been a Transformers tag on there. I was also doing research on my Transformer collection at the time which might've also been how I found it. I was looking up the name of this jet bot I got at a garage sale which I swore I had years ago. The bot turned out to be Jetfire and the old toy was just a Macross Veritech toy my parents got me when we lived in Japan that had similar colors.

At this point I'm afraid to ask, but are there actually GOOD furry comics?

Nah, you've got lines that are exactly one pixel wide even at a 2107x776 resolution, and the entire thing is 1-bit monochrome. It would be difficult to scale UP into that. It was just drawn on a (for the time) huge canvas in a format that compresses into small filesizes really well.

See Anon, you make the mistake of assuming that what calls itself "the furry community" is a hivemind where everyone thinks alike. But first off, people with fursona's are a fleeting minority among the people who consider themselves furries, at least from what I can tell. Second off, they're basically self-inserts, and they exist in literally every goddamn fandom.

Seriously, where does the term Mary Sue come from? Fucking Star Trek. Together with the term "slash fiction", of course. So nerdy fangirls were schlicking themselves off to their self-inserts being worshipped by their inexplicably bisexual idols before the internet even fucking existed.

And then you have shit like Steampunk, where literally the only appeal is dressing yourself up as Lord Cumberfairing Thunderbottom and pretend you're hunting dinosaurs with a raygun.

In short, you're getting your panties in a twist over something that people just... do. And will always do, as long as fiction exists. Take a chill pill.

Not him, but I read it for a while. The art is good (not as amazing as everyone claims, sepia and happy cat faces wear me down after a while), the characters are enjoyable, the attention to detail is astounding, but the pacing...

Lackadaisy falls into the typical webcomic trap. It's been running for years, but nothing has actually happened. It's not exciting. And at one point I realised I was just reading it for Ivy (that's her name, right? The young flapper girl?) being cute, and... whatshisface, with the get-rich-quick schemes being stupid, and Mordecai (has there ever been a socially adjusted character with that name?) being a sociopath. There was no real plot, no real resolution, and it's had Freckle or whatever his real name as a lunatic with a tommy gun on the front page since day 1, but it took years for him to go from a PTSD-riddles veteran to... a more PTSD-riddles veteran.

I feel the comic drops a lot of potential in favour of focusing on the cats being cute. And cats being cute only gets you do far in my book. Especially with only a few updates a year. I can deal with that if every update is a page-turner, but it isn't.

Stacey & Tracey > Sabrina > Zig Zag
>>
>>82349388
For programming, there are a ton of advantages to using Linux, especially if you use C, C++, Python, Ruby, node.js, etc. (Maybe not so much for C#.) A bunch of libraries for those languages just don't work or are missing things (like symbols/colour in terminal output) in Windows. Also, the Windows API is a nightmare, and the Windows method of getting C/C++ libraries that is manually tracking them down and putting them in the source tree, is way inferior than just using a package manager and the global /include and /lib directories. For web-dev, it's difficult to test locally on Windows if your stack includes things like nginx or Redis.

Other than dev stuff, Linux is generally easier to customize, faster to start and faster at filesystem operations (Git is much faster.) See http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=74 for an admission from a Windows kernel dev about that last thing. If I don't need any Windows-specific software, I'll use Linux by default.

>>no hardware support other than hackjob drivers that suck ass
Agreed, for some hardware, but this is moot if you own hardware that works well (I do.)

>>needless hassle for basic shit
This pretty much depends on whether you're shit at computers or not. I wouldn't consider my experience with Linux a hassle.

>>no games
Agreed, but not all computing is games. I use Linux on my laptop because gaming on laptops is for turbo-plebs. On my desktop I dual boot.

I regularly use Windows and Linux, and I have used OS X extensively in the past. I've used them for both work shit and hobby shit. Honestly, there are things to hate about all three and there are also use cases that each one suits perfectly. Shitting on one of the "big three" operating systems and implying it's not good for anything makes for dumb /g/-tier arguments and I'd prefer not to see them outside of /g/.
>>
>>82349763
>For programming

So it's only better at one specific thing that 999/1000 people don't give a fuck about.
>>
>>82350061
I didn't say that was the only thing. I don't think you read my post. Even if that was the only thing, it still counts as an answer to your question.

Ignoring big fields like programming, there are a lot of little things I like about Linux. I like that more of my system files are protected by OS-level permissions, so it's harder to accidentally delete shit when poking around. I like not having to keep Windows Defender up-to-date to feel secure. I like being able to have Java installed without being bugged about updates every week. I like that more programs adapt to my HiDPI screen. I like installing software with a package manager instead of a malware-ridden installer.

Similarly, there are a bunch of small annoyances I have with Windows. I hate how long it takes to load the thumbnails in my 4chan folder. I hate that Windows Update bugs me to install Windows 10. I hate that you have to jump through hoops and replace system files to install custom themes. I hate that the Command Prompt is basically useless. I hate that the default file manager is not an orthodox file manager. I hate that there is no support for SFTP shares. I hate that the compositor syncs to the primary monitor, so watching a video on an external monitor out of exclusive mode will always drop frames. I hate that the ADB drivers are broken for USB3 ports.

These things just tip the scales for me towards Linux, though I understand it's not for everyone. There are reasons to like and hate every operating system. Claiming that one is so obviously better than the other instead of having a nuanced discussion about the benefits and flaws of each makes you look like a retard.
>>
>>82350303
Do you have any idea how autistic you sound. It's like Schwartz's Amiga fetish.

Malware is only an issue if you're a retard and the rest are just tiny little things that no one really cares about and are miniscule in comparison to the lack of hardware and software compatibility in Linux. Programming is the only valid point you brought up.

Do you have any idea how retarded you sound? If you don't have anything intelligent to say, just drop the argument and go back to /g/.

>Malware is only an issue if you're a retard
Not true. I bet you're one of those guys who thinks you can only get malware from shady programs. RCE vulnerabilities and XSS mean you can be infected with malware by visiting any website. If you're hit with a zero-day, or you don't regularly update Windows or Defender, bad luck.

>the lack of hardware and software compatibility in Linux
Again, this is moot if you don't use hardware or software that doesn't work. I have Windows on my desktop for gaymen, but I don't see the need for Windows on my laptops. Even when I had Windows on them, I didn't use any software that wasn't available on Linux. On the other hand, when I use Windows I miss software like XSane, which is much better for scanning than any shit on Windows.

Its funny how /co/ was trying to make this guy the new Chris-chan or Dobson in the last few weeks, only for this thread to swiftly destroy that by showing him to be a relatively normal guy(as normal as someone who's been running a furry webcomic for 20 years can be, at least). He's not some obsessive Amiga autist, he just liked it back then but isn't sperging out about it all the time. He didn't wreck his life because he never switched from Amiga, the whole WB thing never even happened. So much for that.

>Comic industry right now is garbage and unless you go webcomic/indie no one cares about your designs.

Oh it gets better, you are underpaid without any benefits and you will have to deal with your superiors being grossly incompetent and immature but experts at office politics. If they don't outright harass you until you want to quit they will overwork you as best they can, provided you don't get fired or let go for one absurd reason or another.

If you are doing a webcomic then you are pretty much wasting your time until lightening strikes. Even when you do get lucky more likely it will be about you doing something loosely related to the comic rather than the comic itself.

Really, sitting in a hole drawing weird shit for someone paying $45 for an hour's worth of work doesn't sound to bad if you can get over the aspect of doing things you will take to your grave.

Yeah I've noticed that. Which leads me to my questions about pic related. Okay so, first he asks what they're supposed to be. She responds to his question by saying they're witches. They are in witch costumes and wearing witch hats so yes, they are witches. There is nothing wrong with her answer. Yet this guy goes on to say, "No, no - I mean what're you dressed up as?" Okay what the fuck is he doing? He's just asking the same question in a different way. How would the answer for this question be any different than the one for the first one? How is "What're you dressed up as?" any different than "What're you supposed to be?" in this situation? And then he goes on to call them bitches though I will say understand why he would feel the need to call them that. Because I've read the other pages available online and I can understand why he thinks they're bitches, because these girls have a knack for making his life hell. Still though, they're not doing anything in this page that would really warrant that insult. Is there some context I'm missing? Did something significant happen before this page? Because if not, then it just looks he's being a complete and utter douchebag to them here.

Yeah I know that. It's unfortunate. I didn't find out about Jim Hardiman or Skunkworks until recently (I'm not even furry or at least I don't consider myself one). I guess I'm both glad and sad that I did. I'm glad because I discovered this amazing artist and a great and funny comic that he did. I'm sad because he's dead and won't be able to do anything more, even though he wanted to despite his health and body not wanting him to. Fuck it's not fair. He deserved to go on to do more. He deserved more recognition. I don't care if him and his work were part of the furry fandom. Talent is talent. And good talent deserves recognition. According to Jason Canty, creator of Angry Viking Press, one of the things the Angry Viking Press kickstarter was meant to do was to help Jim get his work out to a wider audience, maybe to an audience that wasn't entirely furry. Maybe he would have gotten more recognition that way. And I know that Jim was probably happy where he was career-wise. I read some of his comments on his FurAffinity page and he said he was making a decent amount of money to live on. For all I know maybe he preferred that many people didn't know about his work. Like I can imagine he didn't want to people to know about the porn he drew. To be honest, I probably wouldn't want people to know about that either. It's just that...I'm mad about this. Sad too, I guess. You know it's kind of weird that he died after signing with Angry Viking Press. It's like there was a potential new horizon. But that horizon is gone now.

>>
>>82374375
I know the fucking joke. 'Witches? More like bitches' yeah I get that. I was just asking if there was some context to both that and his general assholery in that page. There's only a few pages of the comic available online, meaning that there could have possibly been a page(s) that came before the page I posted. For all I knew, there may been a reason or justification for why he's acting the way he does in that page. Plenty of comic book pages, when viewed out of context, can make a character unintentionally look an asshole or make them look like bad guys. I was asking if the page was an example of that. But apparently judging by some of the responses I got, that's just the way his character is in the comic. So I guess there's not really any context I'm missing. To conclude, you're an asshole and an idiot because you clearly had no idea what I was talking about in that post.

No it wouldn't. Remember that old people don't really give a shit about 4chan. We aren't that important to most of the rest of the world. And /co/ mods/janitors have been waging constant war with furries since the board's inception. So they're unlikely to lurk here. Case-in-point, look at how many times Chochi has been banned for posting non-lewd fanart. Putting a FAQ or blog in his site would be the BEST way to crush the rumors.

>The consiracy theories start anew.
Shut up Eric.
On a more serious note, just because you read it on the internet doesn't mean it's true.
Especially if you read it on a website where a good chunk of the userbase is photoshop savvy.
He could easily be lying through his teeth to curb the rumors for whatever reason.

>No it wouldn't
It would. Your average newfag doesn't stick to 4chan exclusively, which means it would get spread a lot more than if he just made an FAQ on his site, which only his readers might bother reading.

>constant war with furries
Gesta/co/ mod usually excludes things he likes from the No Furry rule. Case-in-point: Sabrina and Minerva threads can last for days, often they even get to 404 due to bump limit, despite the OP image being Sabrina or Minerva.

The whole point is, neither of them have a reliable source.

For the first one, all you can do is judge Erics autism levels based on previous works and let's be honest. It doesn't look good for him.

For the second one, you have to keep in mind that most of these rumors aren't exactly flattering and it would be in Erics best interest to dispell them, which means he's biased aka not a reliable source.

If there is such a thing as a "good furry comic" (like Endtown, Poppy, Lackadaisy, etc) then TK doesnt fit into that category.

That's the point though.
Webcomics like lackadaisy and Cucumber Quest use anthromorphic animals but they aren't furry and I will murder anyone claiming otherwise.
Comics like twokinds are magical realms that panders to furries. Twokinds is the most successful out there but that doesn't change the fact that it is deviantart tier in both style and writing.
No truly Furry webcomic is good but twokinds is good at what it does, build a large fanbase ripe with autismbux to spend.

Ok, how would you define "furry"?
Is it the use of anthro animals? Because by that definition, stuff like Lackadaisy is furry. Is it pandering directly to the sexual fetish? Because there's hundreds of SFW furry comics, lots of them that don't ever touch on the sexual side of things.

Is Poppy a furry comic? It's populated entirely by anthro animals, and there's some quite raunchy characters. However the "sex" aspect doesn't dwelve into furry fetish, and it's a minimal part of the story, played for laughs, and doesn't get any more serious than sexual jokes on any other media. Furries would claim it's a "clean furry comic", and /co/ desperately claims it's not furry. Morbi doesn't seem to give a fuck. Which one is right?

Is Endtown furry? Humans live alongside anthros. There's romantic relationships between both groups. However, for the most part, characters being anthros is barely important (in the sense that "animal people" could be replaced with "mutated people" with almost no difference), the story is anything but sexual/fetishistic (despite what the waifufags on the Endtown threads may make you believe), and it doesn't pander to the furry fandom, whatever that may mean.

What about VGcats? Or any other shitty generic "gaming pals" webcomic, but with anthro animals instead of people as characters? If you'd define that as furry, how is it any different from Lackadaisy? Or Habits, MMO, Achewood?

What does "pander to furries" mean? "Magical realm"? Jack is full blown autism everyone agrees is furry, but how does it pander in any similar way to 2K? It doesn't try to sell you on the idea of humans and furries coexisting and loving each other. For the most part it's nothing but an extremely edgy, badly drawn take on Dante's Inferno if Dante was retarded.

That's the big problem with the whole "hating the furries" thing. Not even furries know where the draw the line. I'd argue Poppy and Lackadaisy are every bit as "furry" as 2K, only not autistic.
>>
>>82412977

>>
>>82413983
Yeah but to normal people it's no problem.

I remember seeing a bunch of Pokémon stuff drawn by gay-kemoshota artists before finding about _that_ and just thought it was cute. It's not until you see the porn drawn in the same artstyle that you start associating it with that.
>>
>>82414072
Imo furry refers to a specific community and the media made to cater to that specific community.

I agree that its rather difficult to pin down and you do sort of have to go by feel, because stuff like lackadaisy is clearly not furry.
>>
>>82414072
Furry = Self identifies as furry, or an author so closely linked to those who do as to obliterate plausible deniability.

Furry is a fandom and a community as well as a fetish which that community is strongly interlinked with. There's no exact place where a line is drawn, it's all very fuzzy, but generalities can be drawn. Something can be furry without being sexualized and something can even be sexualized without being furry. (Fritz the cat, for example, gets very close.)

I don't hate or even dislike furries, but I dislike attempts to broaden it to "Everything with anthro = furry" because it ropes in a bunch of unrelated stuff to a community that largely overlooks it and with a reputation that many people wouldn't want to be associated with. (I don't mind furries, Most of the SA meme hate is dumb as fuck, but I can very well see a case of someone who wants to do anthro work without getting anywhere near the fandom wanting to avoid being immediately associated because it's anthropomorphic.)

Hang around on the internet long enough and you'll get an instinctive feel for what is Furry and what is anthropomorphic.
You can quite easily tell if an author waifus or want to fuck one of his characters for instance, which makes it very easy to identify furry media.
Twokinds, Original Life and Swords & Sausages are a few who can be instantly revealed by that simple litmus test.
>>
>>82414237

And there are multiple big name comic artists that have drawn non-lewd furry commissions for people. So drawing something like that years ago shouldn't brand you as furry forever. She's also has claimed not to be a furry and doesn't participate in the "culture" as far as I'm aware.
>>
Taking furry commissions is like printing money, there is endless of autismbux for you to reap if you're willing to draw someones double donged dragon fursona.

You don't really get to do what you want in the industry anon. You'll honestly have a better time drawing/doing what you want in a non-professional setting and maybe get work wanted by companies etc, than actually work somewhere as an artist. On top of that I feel alot of people in that fandom have pretty decent jobs/stable jobs which would explain where the money comes from.

>Furry = Self identifies as furry, or an author so closely linked to those who do as to obliterate plausible deniability.

And see, this is the biggest issue. It always comes down to this. And that definition is just as terrible as anything else, because now you made Lackadaisy furry (the author had a FA site, was invited to some cons, and as >>82413558 said, "the only furry thing is the author").

And I completely agree that LD is not furry, not any more than Maus or Bugs Bunny. But by the "the author must be part of the fandom" metric, it's furry.

Again the VGcats example. VGcats is not considered furry. However, if the comic was exactly the same (Penny Arcade with anthro cats intead of a cue ball and a pig) but the author had a fursona, you wouldn't dream of denying it's furry. Both the furry fandom and /co/ love Poppy, and the author could be said to be pandering to both (or rather, neither). Morbi's "persona" is not a gay fox, but a cloud. How the fuck do you define it then? Furry or not? Looking at the author to classify the art is terrible, otherwise Jurassic Park is jewish propaganda and Reservoir Dogs is part of the foot fetish fandom.

>>82414304
>Hang around on the internet long enough and you'll get an instinctive feel for what is Furry and what is anthropomorphic.

That's my point though. I've seen this whole debate play out since before 4chan was a thing, with SA leading the assault. And it always comes down to "get an instinctive feel" because no one can define it, or definitions are contradictory and full of exemptions (eg Lackadaisy right now). Which is problematic when people throw stuff like "all furries are terrible", or the ban on furry works here on 4chan. Why is Poppy allowed, but Dreaming of Utopia not? DoU directly has the "furry fandom" as characters, but no sane person would say it's "more furry" than Poppy or even Terrible Terrible Terrible (pic related, and posted all the time).

Only really if you've got someone strongly denying it while having no plausibility in doing so. (There was a specific reason plausible deniability came up; strictly speaking i can envision situations where a non-furry has an FA and goes to cons for business reasons.)

Rules like banning furry comics, etc, on /co/ are straight up stupid because most of the objectionable ones are covered by other rules (or mods could just delete them arbitrarily, because that's basically how current moderation of furry content works anyway.)

I'm pretty sure if you went the EU approach and put some bureaucrats to it they could make some 400 page document that sufficiently documents how to judge border cases, rule on exemptions and give legally bindings on the definitions. This is the internet however and since it's much easier to judge on a case to case basis, that's what we do. No one is willing to spend actual time doing actual research on a terrible internet fandom.
>>
>>82414526
Honestly I bet one of the reasons furry is such a meh community is because of the influx of money from the IT-job types.

Hobbyist "do it yourself" ism with pretty shit results doesn't give you great porn or fursuits, but it builds discussion and that kind of shit.
Just handing over money to someone more talented just breeds weird market problems and drama, plus discussion largely based on personalities.
>>
>>82414713
Yeah, that's more or less it. The fandom has become this incestuous thing where the focus is on the personalities of the shitty sparkledog fursonas. The most popular furfags aren't even artists but the people who have spent shit tons on porn of their fursonas and OCs and interact with the fandom. The older furry fandom that spawned from scifi nerds was much more focused on telling a story exploring work with animal people in it. It was even more focused on humans interacting with anthros too.
>>
>>82414820
I think as a porn production machine the current way definitely has advantages, but the fact the two are so closely linked has weird results. (because you're in that situation where furry IS the anthro fandom, but substantially most furry time is spent on personality discussions or pornography instead of on anthro media and matters.)

Incestuous is a good word for it, and I think useful in defining a furry work. Zootopia quite probably had many furries working on it, but the target audience remained mostly the general population, whereas a lot of overtly furry works are much more already-furry.

And now I want to ramble on fursonas or some shit and how they're unnecessary and how you might hypothetically be able to have a self-insert anthro without it being a fursona so it's time for me to shut up.
>>
>>82414820
As a cartoonist who draws Animal People and got interested through comics like Critters, Usagi Yojimbo and Furrlough, that's my impression as well.

It seems the current Furry fandom has forgotten its origins. I don't have much contact with the actual Furry Fandom proper, but on the couple of occasions I have met them, they don't appear to be interested in comics.

That and things like mlp have leeched off the autistic elements into its own sub group. 4chan itself could be considered a measuring stick for this gradual change.
>>
>>82415418
To be honest I worry that the current fandom will just poison the normalfags instead of the normalfags curing the fandom.

>the system was sorta crap
The original one?
Did you ever try the 2nd edition from ~2009 or so?
It's very well regarded on /tg/ as a solid system.
Incredibly, the art got worse somehow.

On a weed induced binge through a backcatalogue of terrible comics I read 2K up tp the end of the Anthro Spartan islands and couldnt keep going, my mind was crying. Ive no idea if it improved later, but at that point start remaking your shit or just start a new project. No one should have to trudge through years of terrible writing and waifu pandering just to get to the decent stuff.

If you read through it, its use of cliches, dumb ass setting, and the jabs at other comics and parts of the internet culture, it becomes obvious its satire. Its like the Shut Up and Jam Gaiden of webcomics.

Holy shit I remember watching that anime as a kid, on some shitty local channel at a tiny rural chilean town. This is bizarre.

the problem is that trace and flora are the least interesting characters in the comic. the only thing going on with them is the reveal of what the baby is going to be.

It was the April Fools joke.

It has been explicitly stated multiple times that it's not some woe-is-me furry comic.
It's written by a non-furry to explore discrimination without using an actual minority group.

(With more than a little tongue in cheek.)
