Just come here to discuss the leaks, spoilers if you have seen it already, etc.

Why did Bucky look so fat in the movie.

He looked like he spent the 2 years between TWS and this just eating pizza and watching TV.
>>
I expected this to be a clusterfuck with all the characters, but they kept the story pretty simple and focused despite all the airport cameos.
>>
>>82344735
I would too if I haven't done that in 70 years
>>
It was good but it had a lot of flaws. It had two different story lines of the registration and Bucky, and it never properly resolved or addressed the registration part. I thought there was too little Captain America and too many other side characters who didn't contribute anything to the overall story. I also found the last fight weird. I understand Tony being very mad at Bucky, but trying to kill him while knowing that he was under mind control and having the villain literally a few meters away just seemed too out of place for someone as intelligent and rational as Tony.

The action was good, characters were good, and the Bucky story was resolved, but it could have been tighter.
>>
>>82344737
Probably helps that every character has one or more movies behind them so they didn't need to waste any time trying to establish who they were

Yeah I thought he looked weirdly fat in a lot of shots too. I'm guessing either too many steroids went to his face or Stan aged really fucking badly in the last two years. Too bad, he looked the right level of brawny yet vulnerable in the last film.

Why does his jacket look so cheap? I get he doesn't have time to armor up because he's a fugitive but at least give him a leather jacket or something actually stylish looking in the meanwhile.
>>
>>82344830
>and it never properly resolved or addressed the registration part
Because it's not resolved.
I think they want to make it a point that the Accords will have an effect on all Earth phase 3 movies.
>>
Punished Wanda edit when?
>>
>>82344735
HYDRA probably never fed him proper food during all that time.
>>
>>82344937

I think my favorite costuming was Zemo, who spent the entire film dressed like he came out of Old Navy.

I'm not saying he needed the headsock, but military gear, nice business-like clothes, anything.
>>
Can we discuss how it's kind of fucked that Tony essentially blackmailed Peter into getting involved in a combat situation where he very easily could have been killed or seriously wounded?
>>
>>82344926
He already knew that Bucky was under mind control, he already knew the Bucky did terrible shit. Also the actual villian who just explained his plan was there. Also the Zemo had just stated that he did all this to divide the Avengers. I understand Tony being angry, but I don't think its enough of a story justification for Tony to try to kill Bucky at that moment when everything else was going on.
>>
>>82345026
Sounds just like Tony
>>
The Accords are only about the Avengers, not registering powered people in general, and Iron Man's Avenger's signed them. Cap's Avengers are technically illegal, but he let Iron Man know that if he really needs their help, like say from Thanos invading, all he has to do is give them a call and they'll be there. There's nothing really more to resolve.
>>
>>82344680
I was worried that Wanda's absence from posters and promotional material meant we should have a small role, but that didn't turn out to be the case.
She was actually the first character to show up after the prologue ended, has her own character arc and is vital to the narrative.
Why did they keep putting Sharon Carter in posters with Team Cap instead of her? Sharon barely did anything and was forgettable.
>>
>>82345075
I think Sharon was originally an important character of whatever movie Cap 3 was originally going to be.
They tried to keep that, as shown in the concept arts, but eventually decided to include Wanda since Cap's team would be heavily underpowered, and just a random SHIELD agent had no place in this.

>"He killed my mom."
>>
>>82345075
The Sharon stuff was probably from the earlier drafts before they repurposed her material to go to Wanda since she's more popular.
>>
The rumor that Cap would get a scale mail suit like in the comics...did it actually happen in the movie or was it just a rumor?
>>
>>82345075
Rights issues? At least they've given up trying to push Widow as the main female in-universe. While I doubt either are gonna get their own movie, I can see Wanda being more useful storywise in the future since they seem to be going for more grandiose with Strange and the like the Widow
>>
>>82344680
I want Sharon and Natasha turn-by-turn kicking my ass
>>
I liked it. Shouldn't be named "civil war", but it's pretty good. Oh man, spider man was way better than expected.

Did any of you wait for the two post credit scenes?
>>
>>82345026
>blackmailed
Sort of, but I think Tony was just more being his jokey self than legitimately trying to blackmail him. Plus Peter seemed perfectly happy to help after he admitted he was Spider-Man, he just didn't want Aunt May to know.
>killed or seriously wounded
No. With the exception of Black Panther gunning for Bucky, none of the characters were ever in any real danger. They were all friends. They fought, but they won't trying to kill each other. The thing with War Machine was a complete accident.

You're also ignoring the fact that Tony benched Peter at the end because he didn't want to push him too much, and that he gave Peter a badass suit. Tony was practically fatherly to him, which fits with all the parent angst he was going through during the film.
>>
>>82345069
I think resolved in the sense that it tied more into the overall story and was better thematically developed. It just seems that overall the registration issue was not very relevent to the story.
>>
>>82345115
Rumour. He pretty much had the AoU suit the whole time. I think they've finally nailed the suit since it seems to be the same as the TWS suit, just recoloured
>>
>>82345026
Meh he didn't know it was going to get so out of hand. Hell the reason he recruited Peter is because he could catch them without hurting them using his webbing. Unlike Cap who knew he was making his team into outlaws especially Ant man.
>>
>>82345026
He wanted Peter to keep his distance and just focus on webbing everyone up. When things escalated beyond his expectations, he forced Peter to back off.
>>
>>82345131
>They fought, but they won't trying to kill each other. The thing with War Machine was a complete accident.
Yes, in fact, when Falcon noticed that War Machine had been shot down, he actually swooped down to try and save him. After he crashes, Tony Stark holds his unconcious body in his arms crying, and Falcon actually turns his wings off and walks up to Tony to say he's sorry. Tony then blasts him.
>>
>>82345115
I don't think it's really possible to create blue scale mail in real life wtihout it coming out looking like plastic or something.
>>
>>82345134
The registration issue is just a plot device to break up the Avengers
>>

Yeah I'm aware, and I think it was the right decision since her debut would have been overshadowed by Panther and Spidey's. She was great in Ant-Man without even suiting up, and I really hope they push her to being one of the major Avengers alongside Carol. It's long overdue that the team actually have capable women. Black Widow being so underpowered in comparison just doesn't do it for me. What the fuck would she even do against Thanos?
>>
>>82345343
Cap's team are all imprisoned when they help Cap and Bucky bail.

Then Tony shows up at the raft and Hawkeye basically calls him Judas, Ant-Man says Pym was right, and Wanda's in a straight jacket otherwise she'd bust everyone out

Everyone was trying their best to murder each other while pretending not to. Vision sent a building toppling onto Cap and Bucky. Peak human or not, they won't survive that.
>>
>>82345654
Because she was the only woman they had, so leaving her out would have looked sexist. They should have started with a different female Avenger and had Black Widow be a more prominent Maria Hill type role. She definitely didn't belong on the front lines against an alien invasion.

Just not sure who. They couldn't have Wasp because she was tied with Ant-Man which got super delayed.

Eh, it's pretty inconsistent in comics too. Sometimes it's vague and imprecise, other times it's like he has perfect awareness of his surroundings. Sometimes he can get suckerpunched, other times it's almost impossible to catch him off guard.

If the movie was trying to stay true to the comics, it's doing a great job.

I don't think peak human strength is enough to ground a helicopter. Movie Cap is definitely superhuman. Though not to Spider-Man's levels. Cap struggled against Bucky's metal arm in Winter Soldier, whereas Peter casually blocked it with ease. So in terms of strength, Peter is above Cap.

Yeah it sucks that most of Marvel's best female characters are in the x-men. I like She-Hulk and Spiderwoman, but their names alone ruined the chances of that happening. I guess I would have introduced Captain Marvel sooner as Miss Marvel and have her level up later on.
>>
>>82345711
If TV and movie Marvel weren't so busy glaring at each other, they could have set up the Inhumans by using amnesiac Medusa as a founding Avenger instead of the Frightful Four. Or maybe they could have done She-Hulk in some way so Banner feels he has someone he can talk and relate to before he starts sciencing with Tony. Or they could have done Songbird if she wasn't in Agents of SHIELD.

OP's "fuck this gay Earth" pic makes Doctor Strange a near certainty.

TK powers desperately need to be replaced with more interesting shit.

She can't train on Earth anymore due to being a fugitve, and gives no fucks about political stuff like Wakanda which has nothing to do with her, so won't be in the BP movie.

It would be retarded if she met Strange in the middle of Infinity War and mastered Chaos Magic within 5 minutes. Setting up her training in the hiatus makes more sense.

It doesn't help that they barely interacted in the last film either. Last time Cap talked to Sharon he was kind of pissed at her for faking everything that happened earlier and lying about being a super agent. The only reason he went after her was because Widow told him to which isn't a great basis for a relationship either.
>>
Were Ant-Man and Spidey the only ones to call Cap 'Captain America'?

Also, was there any specific dates mention for the present day? 'Ant-Man' hints at Spidey and in this he says he's been Spidey for 6 months (which I took as sort throw away amount not a nailed on one). That would place Civil War happening around the end of last year right?

It was never relevant. The registration was just to appease the angry population, politicians just want to to be re-elected and they know they would need the Avengers in the next alien invasion. >>82345997
I meant to say Mockingbird. So no. No Songbird yet, but my desperate fanboy hope is that she and the other Masters will get a Thunderbolts movie.

Still, my point stands. They could have taken it some interesting ways. She-Hulk keeps her self-control, so they could play her off of Banner as someone who enjoys her transformation instead of resenting it. Medusa could have been on a search to discover her meaning in the world and offered some more "other world" perspective that only Thor had in Avengers 1. Depending on the rights, they might have even been able to work around the Namor rights and done Namorita (though I really doubt that would work).

Hell, they could have done the original Human Torch and subtly riffed on Evans being in the F4. Could have eventually given Vision someone to talk to and he could have had some interesting things to say about Ultron and mechanical life.
>>
>>82345338
>Wasp was originally going to be in Civil War, but they decided she should debut in her titular movie, plus she wouldn't have that much to do since Scott would be there.
And it would make sense that she would get top billing in A&W, as Scott is now an escaped maximum-security international criminal. (Quite a big upgrade from just a thief. I mean seriously, he fought half the Avengers by himself! Think of the street cred!)
So at the very least you won't see Scott walking around in broad daylight for a while.

I don't mind her being Peggy's niece, but I wish they would have downplayed his lingering feelings for Peggy in Cap2 and AoU if they planned on him hooking up with Sharon after, because this felt like whiplash.

Honestly, I think it would have been better if Peggy was already dead when he came out of the ice to avoid the kissing in the same movie as her funeral and him already having processed that grief instead of it coming off like him projecting his lost love onto Sharon. Sharon should have had a more active role in Cap2. She could have done the rescue instead of Maria.

The romance was the only thing that left me feeling kinda dissatisfied with this film.

Vison is pure in intent the whole time. The issue is his actions are that of a child. Much like how he has the entire internet at his disposal, but has no idea how to cook edible food.

Vision lack experience. He can recite encyclopaedias, but he has no idea how to be gntle, considerate, or reassuring. Human psychology is not a science, it is something you learn by interacting with humans. Vision is still trying to work out how to make sure his actions match his desires.

>>
>>82346538
Cap to Zola "And what if people stood up to Hydra?"
Zola to Cap "Accidents happen." shows headline of Howard's car crash.

It was implied that Bucky took him out as an enemy of Hydra but not directly stated. Then Widow gave him the deep dark secret file on Bucky saying to be careful not to pull on this thread.

>>82346562
It sounded worse than it looks. He got his nose and face crunched in, but there wasn't gushing blood or anything.

The dead winter soldiers had bloody bulletwounds
>>
>>82346562
>1. Did they show blood when Bucky was smashing Howard's face
There was blood, he was begging Bucky to spare his wife. Then his dead body was put back in the car to make it look like he died in the car crash.

All the while Stark's mum was screaming. Then Buck went around the passenger's side door and strangled her.

How was the credits? Better than Taking a Stand from TWS?
>>
>>82346756
They were pretty cool, whenever a name of an actor came up it would cast a shadow in the form of something involving the character.
>>
>>82346756
TWS has my favorite credit sequence in the whole MCU.

The motif for Civil War were shots of a cracked stone floor with the names in the middle. The shadows on the names made different silhouettes. RDJ had an Iron Man mask, Johannssen had a black widow hourglass, Paul Bettany had a mind gem shadow. Serviceable, but not great.
>>

There was some out-of-nowhere pop song that came in at the end of the credits that was really jarring. Does anyone have any idea what that song actually was?

>the credit scene in civil war sucked tho.
>It was just bucky getting frozen. Nothing about thanos and shit.
I prefer this. Civil War is basically the beginning of things, not the conclusion. So there is no need to talk about what is "next", when current issues are still unresolved.

Basically, at some stage, Tony is going to have to go to Steve Rogers, and GIVE Rogers his shield. Steve is basically letting Tony decide if Steve should really own that shield or not, as the son of its creator.

In classic Marvel tradition, after the post-credit it stated Spider-man will return. Cheeky fuckers.

The scene is basically Peter nursing a black eye and trying to explain to hotMay that some guy named Steve from Brooklyn (and his big friend) were the ones who hit him and he tried to fight back (all references to the fight in Germany), and then realizing halfway through the open-door conversation that some red light is coming from his web shooter. Aunt May comes in, gives him some ice and tells him to rest up, he asks her to shut the door. She leaves, he holds the projection to the ceiling, it's the Spider-face and some tech shit, essentially Spidertech

They'll use the Captain Marvel film as IW 1.5. She might be the one to alert the Guardians to Thanos's presence in the Sol system.

Hoping they do it like the current comic space station setup: she and a SWORD-like organisation on the alien refugee outpost on Titan. Fighting off Thanos's lieutenants as they come to raze the place. Setting up the big everyone-in clusterfuck that IW 2 will be.

Was keikaku dori Zemo at first... then he went downhill when he revealed his motivation.
>>
>>82347843

He was excellent. Not remotely like the comics, except that he's smarter than everyone else

Some tidbits:
Sokovian military, lost his father, wife, and son throughout, which you can guess from the first time he's listening to that voicemail.
Contrary to earlier reports of major plothole, he puts on prosthetics to look like Bucky
Wants to break up Avengers, succeeds
No mentioned tie to Nazis, being a Baron, or anything of the sort, he seems to be ambivalent to Hydra while torturing WS's old handler
Doesn't seem like a bad guy, if you look past the terrorism, murder, etc.

Pretty good. Not that much like the comic Zemo outside of "intricate planning" but Bruhl's performance made the whole thing fit together wonderfully.

I love that the Hydra agent, in the end, still refuse to betray his organisation, even though he had nothing to gain. That's what makes Hydra so powerful, in that followers are believers and wouldn't quit just because they were losing, or even when they basically had nothing left to lose but their lives.

They weren't going to have him snipe Cap. This was the best option they had with the character.

Although I'm a little sad to see Rumlow go. He was rough around the edges but he still had respect for Cap and a decent head on his shoulders. That whole "teach through pain" thing with Falcon was weird though.
>>
>>82347929

Well, he's not a Master of Evil, for one. He has no personal grudge against Captain America, mostly it's just the Avengers and he uses Steve as a gateway. He's not shown to be a master swordsman, he's not skilled at fighting at all, which was refreshing actually.

The only thing that makes him remotely like Zemo is outthinking everyone. He's definitely Helmut over Heinrich

He was great. He was cool and calm at all times, played out an opportunistic plan perfectly. He doesn't raise a hand in anger in the whole movie and he drives the Avengers completely apart.

I disagree that he is nothing like the comics Zemo. He is initially motivated by revenge, pays special attention to Cap, relies entirely on his own abilities and determination to see things through (along with viewing anything and everything else as a disposable asset). He's a great foil for both Tony and Cap in the movie, because Zemo's plan points out the weaknesses of both of their ideologies. He's not insane, a sociopath: he understands what he's doing is wrong, but accepts it as what he has to do.

He's like early Zemo in motivation, mid-game Thunderbolts Zemo in action to me.

>>82347983
>he's not skilled at fighting at all
He was a colonel in the Sovokian special forces and commanded a black ops kill squad. He very likely is, we just didn't see it. Like we didn't see anything other than a mention of his father, who could easily be a Baron (even the Hydra Baron). He does have an eye for Steve: he stares down at him after the lift drop, and it's Steve he comments on particularly - literally on the color of his eyes, which is kind of a Nazi-ish comment - in the final confrontation. In another Zemo moment, we get him psychologically torturing Bucky.

He doesn't wear the mask or use the sword - to me, that's about it. He was a perfect MCU incarnation of the best parts of Helmut Zemo.

>>82348039

I'm not saying that stuff couldn't be there, but it wasn't. I'd love to see that stuff (though the green-in-blue eyes comment was very Nazi-esque, you're right), and the fact that he's special forces yet they never took advantage of that and made him show off his fighting skills is what sold me on him so much.

He didn't have to fight to win. That's why he won.

>He didn't have to fight to win. That's why he won.
He also knows he can't win by physically fighting. He picks his battles. He could have had organised a small army if he really wanted, maybe even getting 5 Winter Soldiers. But he knows full well whatever he put together would be weaker than the alien invasion that the Avenges defeated in New York. So why even go that route? Take the path to victory, not to defeat.

Didn't he crawl on Giant-Man a bit?

>I'm not saying that stuff couldn't be there, but it wasn't.
They made Zemo an extremely personal villain for Cap and Bucky, and showed Zemo taking a personal interest in Cap. That was there to me. The sword, mask, his dad - no, but it's all potentially still open.

I completely agree about the "fight to win" stuff.

>cap
>peak human

lmao anon

We're talking about a guy who literally grounded a helicopter using nothing but his perfect bulging muscles and who could outrun cars.

Bucky, Panther and Cap are all very obviously super enhanced, Cap is the strongest of the actual 'human' characters, Bucky is noticeably more reliant on his hand but can still pull superhuman shit even without it especially when his programming is activated, Panther is between normal bucky and activated bucky.

Spidey in this movie was portrayed as far more agile than any of the three but not noticeably stronger than Cap.
>>
Cap was wrong.

There, I said it.

Cap lost his trust in people. He wasn't even willing to make an effort to work within the system. Yes, Ross is an asshole, but he was willing to give the Avengers a chance, to have them take lead. Had Cap registered, he would have been able to bring Bucky in safely, and be able to convince everyone Bucky was framed from the get-go.
But, also, he was the one who decided to actually fight. Tony kept trying to reason with him, go easy on him while trying to give him a chance to comply and stand down. Cap went to war.

But mostly, I directly blame Cap for not trusting Tony in Siberia. Tony would never kill Bucky. That's quite simply a fact. But when you've just broken up with the love of your life, your best friend was almost killed in front of your eyes, and is now permanently invalid, and then you get to hear the person who was the cause for all the shit that has happened in the last few days was also the one who killed your parents, and is standing right next to you, then yes, it's not human not to react emotionally and lash out. That was an emotional reaction. It's not a morally or rationally good reaction, but any other reaction than the kind of emotional reaction that Tony displayed would have been cold and inhuman. But Tony would never kill Bucky, not like that, not in cold blood. Cap should have known that. Yes, Bucky would have ended up with a few cuts and bruises, but Cap should have trusted Tony not to kill Bucky. But Cap didn't. He didn't trust Tony to ultimately make the right call. He doesn't trust anyone to make the right call, except for himself, which he almost literally says at the start of the movie.

So, yes, Cap was wrong.

At least he had enough selfawareness to recognize that he no longer has trust in the people he claims to represent, which is why he left the symbol of that trust, the shield, behind for Tony.
>>
>>82348256
So are you saying Cap should've just let Tony beat the shit out of Bucky for a little until he calmed down?

>>
>>82348256
>Tony would never kill Bucky. That's quite simply a fact.
Yes he would. That's why he thought Steve was going to kill him at the end, because he was expecting the same in kind. Tony did eventually calm down and realise he shouldn't have tried to kill Bucky, but back at that point in time he would have.
>>
>>82348587
That's what I'm saying. It was a momentary lapse of judgement, but Cap should have trusted Tony to snap out of it in time. Instead, Cap exacerbated the situation by fighting him.
>>
>>82345634
Of course he is. Cap in this movie is like five steps away from being Big Boss. Peace Walker Big Boss, maybe, but all the same.

>>82348712
>That's what I'm saying. It was a momentary lapse of judgement, but Cap should have trusted Tony to snap out of it in time. Instead, Cap exacerbated the situation by fighting him.
What? All Cap tried to do was to help Bucky ESCAPE. While Tony fired MISSILES at him.

What were you expecting to do to stop Tony from murdering Bucky if you don't fight him?
