His origin story is told in Legend of the Blue Marvel. It's not very good but it's probably worth reading if only to know where he came from, though as I said, it's kinda shitty. There was also a one-shot where he fights King Hyperion in Age of Heroes #3 that's worth checking out since it shows how he came out of retirement.

The recommend reading for him would be Ewing's Mighty Avengers followed by Captain America and the Mighty Avengers. It's by the same writer as The Ultimates so that's the best thing to read for more of him.

For the most part. The Superflow also has the whole "dreams" element that isn't part of The Bleed. See, the original New Universe's Nightmask's power was that he could access people's dreams, so when he re-imagined it into newuniversal, he basically re-used The Bleed for The Superflow but with the added element of The Superflow being what consciences access when we dream, so while Ellis' Nightmasks power was to access the bleed/superflow, he had to tie it back into the original Nightmask's power to access dreams, so he kinda blended the two together. There were a lot of neat ideas in newuniversal that unfortunately didn't go anywhere since he abandoned the project after his harddrive with all of his scripts and info for it got fried.

One thing I liked about The Superflow was the idea that Zeitgeists were reflected as literal weather patterns within the superflow. It's a conceptual space so what would just be ideas or memes in the real world were represented by things like storms in the superflow. That's why when Galactus and Master Order/Lord Chaos fight in the superflow, it's a battle of ideas and metaphors rather than an actual battle. Galactus punching Order is him defeating Order with the power of ideas and concepts.

Not really? The idea of hypertime is that you have multiple concurrent timelines weaving in and out that make up the "real" timeline, which is how everything can be canon.

Ewing's explanation was more regarding how the sliding timescale and retcons work. The events of the present can alter the past (retconning) and certain events have such a gravity to them that they're pulled forward in time (the sliding timescale.)

There's definitely similarities between the two, but they're not quite the same thing. Hypertime is "everything is canon" while Ewing's explanation is more "canon naturally changes overtime."

I think they're inherently similar but different. Ewing's explanation was what Marvel editorial has been using forever. The sliding timescale, he just made it Canon in universe. Hypertime is as simple as everything is canon but since DC literally reboots and fixes their universe post Crisis every few years and pre crisis characters had growth, new version of same characters replaced them via multiverse, DC never needed sliding timescale. >Al Ewing: The Macronaut is another cosmic character, but this one’s all-new and all-now, True Believer! All we know about him comes from a speech balloon in MIGHTY AVENGERS way back when. I’ve been waiting quite some time to bust him out. Essentially, he hails from a “Macro-verse” infinitely larger than our own, the counterpoint to the Microverse. He’s made many attempts to enter our world, and nearly destroyed it in the process. He’s so huge and dense that his relative gravity would tear us apart if he materialized fully. What is he? An invader? An explorer? A cosmic tourist? I’ll tell you one thing: [artist] Kenneth [Rocafort] has gone above and beyond with the Macronaut’s design. He’s going to wow readers new and old.

>Captain Marvel obviously plays a large role in Civil War II as one of the figureheads, but how do her fellow Ultimates feel about the issues at hand?

>Al Ewing: Well, the nice thing about CW2 is that the central dilemma—change the future or protect the future—[is it] has a lot of facets to it. How far are you willing to go to change what’s coming? How far would you really want it to stay as it is? And the Ultimates all have different viewpoints. Let’s say— purely hypothetically, cough cough—that Black Panther and Ms. America find themselves on the same side. One of them is coming from a multi-dimensional viewpoint, seeing things with the experience of hundreds of different universes and timelines, and one is extremely concerned with the single country he rules. That’s going to weigh into their reasoning, and affect their decisions. So instead of a strict half-and-half split, we might end up with the Ultimates completely fractured, split five individual ways.

>Could that split lead to some personnel changes for the team?

>Al: It’s possible, yes. But personnel changes don't always have to be reductive. And CW2 won’t be the end of the upheaval
