So I'm writing Yang's chapter and deacribing how she gave birth and that gave me a thought.

Wouldn't Yang activate her semblance as she gives birth? Like, as she's pushing the bed suddenly lights up in firre or some shit. Wouldn't that also harm the baby?

Unlocked Aura doesn't seem entirely natural, so it's possible that it would be harmful to the baby if the flames are hot or if her Semblance supercharges her muscles.
Medical facilities probably have equipment for safely depleting the patients' Aura levels for cases like these.

The two prevalent theories are chronokinesis and projection generation.
Time manipulation makes sense given his clockwork theme and projections would fit the Wizard of Oz man-behind-the-curtain shtick. Ruby also mentioned that during one of his speeches he didn't seem "to be entirely there."

Well, literally everything is natural.
You can push your body past its limits with just exercise alone, and that is entirely "natural" too.
>>
>>82257854
You know that's not what I mean.
>>
>>82257866
And you don't know what I mean, I take it.
Overtraining is a thing anyone can reach "naturally" but it doesn't mean that it's harmless. Our bodies just aren't meant to withstand that sort of treatment. My reasoning for the "unnatural" nature of unlocked Aura is similar.
Random redheads can unlock your Aura easily, but that doesn't mean that corporealizing your soul comes without side effects.

Aura ≠ unlocked Aura.
Unlocked Aura (and, by proxy, Semblances) have to be negative in some situations, since many of them are passive. Just like the scenario where Yang is pregnant and could potentially crush the baby with Aura-powered Kegel muscles. Evolution didn't prepare humans to give birth with superpowers.

Medical advice from RWBYg.
>>
>>82258245
Pretty sure a part of it has to do with her temper. She did go a bit crazy on an Ursa during initiation, and we've seen her do the red eyes thing outside of fights.
>>
>>82258077
But that's just wrong. We know from the WoR on Aura that literally everybody has it, from normal civilians to great warriors. Not once, ever, have they made the distinction that "Aura" isn't equivalent to "unlocked Aura". By it's very definition as a fucking AURA, it has to exist as a field around the body at all times.

And no, there don't need to be negative effects. Because the writers sure as shit were never thinking about that kind of stuff when designing the universe. You want to know their logic?

>"How do people breathe if they always have a forcefield around them?"
>"Don't worry about it."
>"But-"
>"IT'S FINE."
>>
>>82258293
By that logic, her hair would burst into flame if the little Sunburst/Yangling was kicking too hard. And considering that Ruby is able to slug her in the face at the sleepover without starting a fire, it clearly doesn't go off everytime she has force applied to her.

Of course there has to be a distinction between locked and unlocked Aura.
If there wasn't, the entire point of unlocking it would be moot. You don't get to abuse force field bullshit or Semblances unless you can externally manifest your life force, which is exactly what unlocking it allows you to do.

Also, using a single case with Jaune as exemplary of every living thing on the planet is fucking stupid. If you want to apply logic to it, it makes much more sense that Jaune's Aura was intentionally sealed at some point and not just locked by default.

>>
>>82258412
Yang's semblance is described like a fighting game meter.

One punch isn't gonna fill a meter unless it's uber max damage.

It's why Neo beat her hard. She mainly did dodges, quick jabs which did more damage as counters, and won with a ringout or something.

A baby will be kicking and twisting and clawing for over 8 hours. This is different from random kicks as this time it would be doiing it the whoole time all while shehas cramps.

That meter is gonna fill.

Maybe they could do cesarian but who knows if that's gonna activate it as well. Probably not.

It's the only example we have.

But if you're using the meter analogy, you run into one key problem. You can stockpile meter all day long. But using it is a concious choice. Every time we seen Yang use her semblance, it's a concious decision. Which makes sense, seeing as how semblances are described as active applications of aura.

For example, it didn't go off after she got punted through the roof and then hit the ground at what would realistically be terminal velocity in the food fight. Why would it? It's just a game with her friends. Compared to all those times when she's avenging her hair or defending her friends by getting angry. Which seems to imply she didn't use her semblance while fighting Neo at all, for whatever reason.

For example: If Aura and Semblances need to be unlocked, then why could a little nothing street rat like Emerald use her illusory Semblance whenever she wanted? If people don't naturally have defensive Auras, then why could a bunch of lowly thugs and fresh cultist Faunus go up against the likes of Yang and her shot gauntlets without getting their brains plastered all over the walls? If civilians don't have protection, then didn't Roman murder dozens and dozens of people by going on a rampage in the middle of a busy highway while throwing cars around like crazy? Since when have we seen Hunters engaging civilians? The closest we have is Ruby mopping the floor with Junior's goons and it'd be stupid to become a thug without having your Aura unlocked.
>Maybe people having their Auras locked down just isn't that uncommon
Maybe it's something Pyrrha would have mentioned. There is no evidence supporting that theory.

Pyrrha unlocked Jaune's with trivial effort. A worldwide, organized terrorist group should have no problems unlocking their cannon fodder.

Passive semblance makes no sense. The healing and damage mitigating effects of aura are described as passive semblances are described as the opposite.

And we never really see her punching harder than usual without the fire effect going off beforehand. Heck. If the fire is her semblance is hitting its peak, why do the fire effects show up for scratch damage like losing some hair? Yang didn't take nearly enough damage fighting Junior or the Ursas to get a full meter.

and I know what your going to say "well they could turn it off for medical reasons" then I have to ask you once those medical problems are gone, why would they not turn it back on immediately after?

If people don't naturally have defensive Auras, then why could a bunch of lowly thugs and fresh cultist Faunus go up against the likes of Yang and her shot gauntlets without getting their brains plastered all over the walls?
because those organizations probably have hunters in their member ship who could unlock the aura of other members. remember most hunters are basically mercs, I'd be surprised if a few of them weren't involved in some sort of crime. as for emerald we don't know her backstory so she could just as easily be some combat school dropout who few on bad times.

>Aura is primarily used as a defensive mechanism. Passively coating the wielder in a protective force field, it can protect a combatant from what would normally be a fatal blow. It does not, however, make the user invincible. As they receive more and more damage, their Aura reserve will deplete. If this happens, all the fighter will be left with is his resolve. Fortunately, when a fight turns gruesome, a warrior can also rely on their Aura in a different manner.

>"Semblance" is a term used to describe the projection of Aura into a more tangible form. For some this could be the ability to control objects with telekinesis. For others it could mean superhuman strength. The power associated with a wielder's Semblance is completely unique. With enough training and focus, a user's Aura can turn them into something much more than just a man.

There we go.

That part about Semblances is so utterly retarded that I'm thinking that the transcriber had wax in his ears or M&K had been sniffing glue.
It makes zero sense to call all active Aura manifestations Semblances. There are two sets of Aura powers which are strictly different: the personal, unique superpower everyone gets and the generic Aura abilities like the shield projection and exploding punch Weiss and Fox use, respectively.
On top of that I can't think of a single instance in the series where your personal superpower wasn't referred to as "Semblance." Pyrrha explicitly says that "my Semblance is polarity" which makes no sense if Semblance is just a general term.
The fact that the same line also contradicts Miles' mention of passive Semblances only makes that more likely.

I don't see how the WoR makes passive Semblances an impossibility. The first paragraph only mentions that the force field part is passive and doesn't imply anything about Semblances, and the second paragraph doesn't imply anything about Semblances being only active. Yang could passively project her Aura into fire and super strength.

Passive semblances weren't mentioned until Volume 3. That's from the Volume 2 commentary. It's entirely possible they changed their mind on something. We already know they added Maidens to the world on Monty's whim.

And to be fair. Fox is the only one to make a Grimm swell up and explode like that.

Just watch the WoR on Aura.

>The closest we have is Ruby mopping the floor with Junior's goons and it'd be stupid to become a thug without having your Aura unlocked.

So every single goon in the series has had their Aura unlocked? Even the Faunus that had just joined the White Fang off the streets had their Auras unlocked? Fucking ZWEI had his Aura unlocked?

It makes way more sense to assume that everybody just has an Aura by default rather than every individual character having had it unlocked at some point.

>Maybe it's something Pyrrha would have mentioned. There is no evidence supporting that theory.

And maybe it isn't, we just don't know. But there's sure as hell even less evidence behind the idea that having an Aura comes with huge drawbacks.

>Pyrrha unlocked Jaune's with trivial effort. A worldwide, organized terrorist group should have no problems unlocking their cannon fodder.

Think back to the flashback episode dumbass. Emerald had her Semblance and was using it long before ever getting picked up by Cinder, back when she was just a street urchin.

>How do you know he didn't?

>Ozpin: "Hey guys, I heard somebody got up to some shenanigans the other night! You rascals. By the way, there'll be a memorial for the thirty people killed in the highway pileup, you'll attend after the mission, I'm sure."

>Nobody has the faintest clue what Grimm are and how they work. If they are born from negativity, for example, the less humans there are the less Grimm they have to deal with.

You're missing the point. If Dust is activated by Aura and Aura needs to be manually unlocked rather than being on naturally, and Dust was the only thing that saved people from the Grimm, then how did anybody use Dust at the beginning?

>>82259320

Has she ever ignited without being hit?
I'm also not entirely sure just what "passive" means. Ruby's Semblance is definitely active, nothing happens until she activates it. Yang's is reactive, meaning that nothing happens until something triggers it. The difference between the two is that Ruby's power can never, under any circumstances be triggered by anyone else than herself.
Yang, on the other hand, might be able to flare her Semblance consciously even if the bulk of its power comes from absorbing hits rather than her personal pyrokinesis.

>why the fuck would anyone turn off their "I get superpowers" field in a world full of horrible murder beasts?

I was suggesting that perhaps it could be forcibly sealed through some means.

And the logic you just presented is a good reason for everyone to have Aura. If unlocking it is as trivial as we've seen, and Remnant is so dangerous, then surely EVERYONE would have it unlocked? As a basic safety measure. I mean if you lived in Remnant, would you really turn down having an Aura?

>because those organizations probably have hunters in their member ship who could unlock the aura of other members.

First, that's complete speculation with nothing to support it.

Secondly it doesn't matter, because Emerald had her Semblance before ever being part of Cinder's group.

>as for emerald we don't know her backstory so she could just as easily be some combat school dropout who few on bad times.

Oh shut the fuck up with this. That's reaching harder than a goddamn stretch armstrong.

>aura could just as easily be unlocked in times of great personal danger. the aura unlocking pyrrha did could be a way to unlock aura with out nearly killing the person getting their aura unlocked.

That's also complete speculation with nothing to back it up.
>>
>>82260217
Yes, I know he has an Aura.

What I'm saying is, why would you unlock your dog's Aura? How does that make more sense than Aura just being something that all creatures use naturally?
>>
>>82260321
When she flips out at the ruins with chess pieces in Volume 1 Chapter 8. She also has her eyes go red in the post credits scene of Volume 2, but how much of that scene is based in reality is vague.

An I'm running off the assumption that passive means you don't have to do anything to make it work. It will heal you and tank hits automatically, but if you need to want to go fast, make a glyph, leave a shadow, or convert damage to power, you hav to choose to use it and thus it is active.
>>
>>82260398
Zwei had his aura for plot-related reasons we don't yet know, as confirmed in the commentary

>Just watch the WoR on Aura.

OBVIOUSLY I still don't buy your explanation. I have obviously seen the WoR, it was even linked in this thread.
So, for the third fucking time, explain your point instead of jamming your fingers into your ears and screaming something about a source.
>So every single goon in the series has had their Aura unlocked?
Why not? They are criminals. Same goes for the White Fang, like I mentioned they aren't a small organization.
As for Zwei, that's actually likely. One of the commentaries mentioned that he's special.
>It makes way more sense to assume that everybody just has an Aura by default rather than every individual character having had it unlocked at some point.
No it doesn't. Pyrrha was barely mildly perplexed when Jaune said that he doesn't have an activated Aura.
> behind the idea that having an Aura comes with huge drawbacks.
So this is what this is about? I said that unlocking one's Aura isn't necessarily always 100% beneficial. Not that it would be a death sentence or a significant hindrance, even if that would be interesting.
>Also we explicitly know that to use Dust, you NEED Aura.
No, you don't. Dust is volatile, just like gunpowder. Did you forget how Ruby and Weiss met?
You can't bend time or summon projectiles without Aura but you just need to smack a crystal to trigger its power. Large crystals are basically the simplest form of hand grenades possible.
>>
>>82260398
>why would you unlock your dog's Aura?
The better question is, why not?
>>
>>82260398
Corgi. Herding dog. Likely gotten while Ruby and Yang were young. Probably unlocked by Taiyang to keep Yang and Ruby safe from Grimm. You know, sp there wasn't a repeat of them wandering off into the woods.
>>
>>82260340
Adding on to this, wouldn't Aura needing to be unlocked create a massive power divide in Remnant's universe?

The governments all have Hunters and such under their payroll. And surely the police forces would all have their Aura unlocked too. So if you're just a normal person, you live in a world where the kingdoms exercise complete power, employing untouchable super soldiers that could do whatever they want to you. That seems more than a little fucked up.
>>
>>82260515
And now your overthinking it.
>>
>>82260487
Because when the dog starts shitting fire or humping dents into a lamp post I'll have to bullshit a reason why I thought it was a good idea. Probably something about saving money on vet trips.
>>
>>82260340
>First, that's complete speculation with nothing to support it.
Don't get too epistemological there. We know that unlocking one's Aura cannot be an incredibly hard process since Pyrrha managed to do it without breaking a sweat. We know that the White Fang is a huge organization with a lot of resources.
Of course we don't KNOW that they have access to a number of people who can unlock Auras but assuming otherwise would be stupid.
As for Emerald, Cinder and the White Fang aren't the only factions with access to Hunters. We have zero knowledge of Emerald's past, for all we know she ran some oddjobs to get her Aura unlocked or was just tutored by someone who did that.
>That's also complete speculation
So speculation is bad unless you're the one doing it? Spitballing for other options goes both ways.

We're told in the episode, that EVERYONE has Aura. From a lowly blacksmith to a great knight, we see their Auras surrounding them. The only thing that sets the likes of Hunters apart is their degree of control and amplification of their Aura - IE, Semblance. But even outside of that, because of Emerald, we know more normal people can also develop their Semblances, they don't need some kind of intensive training to do it.

>Why not?

Because that makes no fucking sense. Think about it -

>Hunters have an unlocked Aura
>Criminals have an unlocked Aura
>By their occupation police have an unlocked Aura
>Monsters of pure darkness cover the world and want to wipe Humanity out

>You're a normal person
>You live in a world with all this shit
>Why the fuck would you not have your Aura unlocked too?

>No it doesn't. Pyrrha was barely mildly perplexed when Jaune said that he doesn't have an activated Aura.

Jaune didn't even know what an Aura WAS. What do you think is more likely - Jaune's Aura was sealed and knowledge of it was hidden from him for some reason, or Jaune not being in the loop shows that ALL normal people are Auraless retards in a world of superbeings?

>So this is what this is about? I said that unlocking one's Aura isn't necessarily always 100% beneficial.

But there's not been the slightest hint of that. By all accounts it is a 100% upside.

>No, you don't. Dust is volatile, just like gunpowder. Did you forget how Ruby and Weiss met?

Did you forget that they HAVE AURA?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BJc7nrMnc4

>Dust. By definition it is a naturally occurring energy propellant that can be triggered by the Auras of Humans and Faunus.

There's a reason why we were told that all weapons act as a conduit of a user's Aura - Because that's what activates the Dust.

>again why would you turn it off?

Why did Yang lose an arm? I'm not talking volition here.

> or Jaune not being in the loop shows that ALL normal people are Auraless retards in a world of superbeings?
The unlocking scene is a clusterfuck, I give you that. But again, since Pyrrha didn't react too much to Jaune's situation it makes me believe that his situation isn't entirely unique. If literally everyone else had an unlocked Aura, Pyrrha should have reacted more than she did.

>Aura isn't Aura

What are you even on about?

>You also shouldn't put too much weight into simplified animations.

So I shouldn't put weight in the animations made specifically to explain to us how these factors of the world work, but it's okay to base everything we know about Aura on inferences from a hamfisted two minute expository scene in the middle of buttfuck volume 1?

Hell, that entire scene began with Pyrrha asking, "Why didn't you activate your Aura", which runs contrary to the entire idea of Aura being a passive protective shield that's always with you once it's "unlocked".

>The unlocking scene is a clusterfuck, I give you that. But again, since Pyrrha didn't react too much to Jaune's situation it makes me believe that his situation isn't entirely unique. If literally everyone else had an unlocked Aura, Pyrrha should have reacted more than she did.

I can't put any faith at all into that scene. To me, it was just the fastest way that they could introduce the concept of Aura to the audience.

>Unless, I don't know, your Semblance gives you superhuman strength capable of crushing newborn babies?

Maybe the kid has Aura already.

Maybe hours of childbirth and labor drains your Aura to where using a Semblance isn't possible.

Maybe a hundred different things which renders that question moot.

>Does the projectiles Roman shoot also HAVE AURA?

Roman is a Human with Aura, therefor he can use his Dust-based weapon.

>What about the airships, are they sentient too? Or the coliseum?

Well there were hundreds (Or thousands) of people with Auras on the airships and coliseum. We don't know how much Aura needs to be used to activate Dust, the specifics of how it works, but we DO know that in order for Dust to be made active, Aura needs to be used.

No, the unlocking scene.
It doesn't matter how much assumptions you make, the whole scene still doesn't make fucking sense.
It's so painfully obvious that the sole reason why it exists is to shoehorn in an infodump about Aura for the audience.

That is just your strict interpretation of the line. Powdered Dust is an obvious parallel to gunpowder, so it being triggered by heat, impacts and all that jazz could easily be taken as granted.
Dust reactions being entirely reliant on human presence is a significant downside which hasn't been mentioned anywhere. The Knights would be worthless against Grimm without human backup, and any and all remote machinery would have other forms of energy generation. Dust is used absolutely everywhere, so something that big would've had to come up this far.

At the most basic level, it makes Jaune's parents, Jaune, his other family, and his original school all look completely 200% retarded for not ever saying anything about what Aura is or having his unlocked. You may as well put a goddamn price on your kid's head, do you WANT them to get hurt?

The musketeers should have something ridiculously well synergizing.
Like, one of them can accelerate things within three feet of him relatively slowly, one can create small portals with a lot of concentration and the third one, I don't know, could change the trajectory of projectiles mid-air.
The portal guy sets up a loop around the accelerator who can apply his Semblance for as long as he wants and when the projectiles break sound barrier or so the third guy homes them into the target.

The scene just objectively doesn't make sense.
Whatever Jaune's situation is, it cannot be unheard of since Pyrrha didn't react visibly.
Aura cannot be a taboo topic to talk about since the tournament prominently displays the Aura meters.
Unlocking it cannot be needlessly hard since Pyrrha did it so easily.
And it somehow still has to be obscure enough for it to be reasonable that Jaune didn't know about it.
All of the aspects just don't mesh together flawlessly.

>But you yourself are trying to sell the point that Aura can be locked.

I'm saying there might be ways it could be forcibly sealed. Again, like that shit in Avatar with the bending. And "We've got to seal away this kid's potential so they never get into trouble" is a common enough trope that would fit Jaune.

But saying that all Auras start off locked, that contradicts the definition of what an aura is.

>It seems that you can, er, bolster your Aura for the lack of a better word. Hence why Yatsu's massive attack against Mercury did relatively little because he was prepared.

See, now you're reaching for more explanations too. There's nothing suggesting that's really a thing, but in order for the locked Aura idea to make sense we have to allow for stuff like that.

>Well, it's still there, hamfisted or not. It can't be entirely worthless.

Like 90% of volume 1 was worthless, that scene is no different.

>And maybe they don't? I don't see the point. The anon asked if Aura could create complications and I spitballed reasons why it might.

Maybe it could, maybe it couldn't. But you can't really use "maybe" as evidence for a definite one way or another. I've offered up some possible explanations for the Jaune thing for example, but it doesn't matter because I think the entire scene isn't relevant to begin with, it's not a crux of the argument.

>That is just your strict interpretation of the line.

We don't know the specifics of how it works, only that Aura is used. Say, for example, that Aura can be imbued and trigger the Dust without direct Human interactive - In a way we know that's possible, because Atlas has already worked with removing the Aura from Human beings and putting it into other vessels.

It doesn't. The wiki says that "Aura is an ability that all those with a soul can use." Like, that goes for glassblowing too but without the proper preparation you can't just start making fancy bottles. "All humans can become glassblowers" is a valid thing to say.
>here's nothing suggesting that's really a thing
Mercury's block is one thing which indicates that. If we get more technical, so does every single block, because you'd have to absorb exactly as much kinetic energy in any case, so it wouldn't make sense to ever block anything.
>But you can't really use "maybe" as evidence
It was the other way around. Since I assumed that the natural state is a locked Aura, I concluded that there very well could be complications. Not the other way around.
>We don't know the specifics of how it works, only that Aura is used
I'm calling Occam's Razor here. It's significantly simpler if Dust is just volatile and doesn't require soul magics to work, especially when the Maiden Ex Machina project seemed to be much more invasive than what you are suggesting.

>Mercury's block is one thing which indicates that. If we get more technical, so does every single block, because you'd have to absorb exactly as much kinetic energy in any case, so it wouldn't make sense to ever block anything.

We know that some degree of damage still goes through Aura even if it's up, IE Weiss' scar, and that you still feel some pain from hits. Therefore, obviously you would want to block an attack rather than just allow it to hit you full on with all of it's force.

>It was the other way around.

>>82263512

Probably not, but it doesn't change the fact that Pyrrha performing the unlocking was a major part of the scene. There's no way they came up with that poem and didn't think any more of it.
>>
>>82263691
As I said before, it could be that people might have their Auras forcibly locked through some means. Pyrrha is pretty well trained, so it's feasible that she could know how to heal such a thing and unlock it again.

But in actuality, I really think that the scene was never intended to give us this idea about unlocking/locking. It was to showcase Aura to the audience for the first time, and for that to work the clueless audience insert, Jaune, must therefore not know what Aura is either.

I disagree. The scene definitely intended to make unlocking an Aura a thing. M&K (and, back then, Monty) aren't actually, literally retarded. They wouldn't introduce such a massively impactful mechanic that lightly, no matter how much flak they get for it.
Like, Pyrrha's comment about Jaune activating his Aura was just a single line. When they spend so long explaining what unlocking means and have it all end with a poem and a light show there's no way they didn't think more closely just what that particular thing implies.

On the topic of Aura

Stands
>it is the manifestation of an individual's innate "fighting spirit" and represents, to an extent, the individual's psyche.

Aura
>the manifestation of one's soul in the RWBY universe, and can be used for a wide range of abilities

What if the aura of RWBY is their Stand
or
What if the Stands of Jojos is their Aura ability

By that extent, what would the Stands of RWBY characters look like, what would they be called, what would their abilities be
>>

Agreed.
Real disheartening that they don't even have the resources to make a decent game.

I mean for what it's supposed to be it isn't that good.
One thing that it had going for it was the potential for a bunch of playable characters.

In order?
Self-inster, nobdoy really has a feel for his character aside from a couple interactions and finally, hardcore self-insert.
>>
>>82263858
>Why? Aura is Aura, even if you can't manifest it to make flower parts or whatnot.

Because if Aura isn't a field that's surrounding you then it's not a fucking aura.

>Weiss' scar is whole another can of worms, let's leave it at that.

I don't know about the scar specifically, but they have said that pain and such goes through. I'd rather get hit in the forearms or something than the ribs.

>And yes, Pyrrha's comment about activating his Aura doesn't make sense. At all.

I agree. I really don't think we were supposed to take much from that scene other than the basics of Aura being a thing.

>I don't know, maybe the government doesn't want everyone to have random superpowers because a single mentally unstable materiokinetic or mind controller could cause a world of trouble.

Well in that case, it's not like they can stop criminals.

Aura unlocking being against the law is almost unfathomable. That's some police state, big brother, "We're literally telling you what you can and can't do with your SOUL" type shit.

>It's simpler to assume that Dust can be triggered without humans, especially when we have examples of tech which isn't dependent on humans.

If you get down to it, all tech is created by Humans. Maybe they imbue Aura into all their technology, it would explain the weapon conduit thing AND why Grimm are set on destroying all Human technology and infrastructure even if Humans themselves aren't personally there.
>>

>>
>>82263930
Technically, she said she did. Specifically that she "released his soul"

But again, I don't think we were supposed to take all of this from that.

>There's no way they came up with that poem and didn't think any more of it.

Anon, it was volume 1. Almost everything in volume 1 was irrelevant.
>>
>>82263955
ok, why the fuck would you lock a young boys aura and never teach him anything about it though out his whole life?
it's still stupid either way but at least with the need to unlock to use version you could say his parents where just a ignorant as him about aura. in the unlocked from birth but later locked version that makes outright jackasses for basically crippling their kid and puts him into even more danger.
and as for the pyrrha knowing how to unlock it thing she was basically a fucking gladiator.
why would she need to know how unlock aura if it would never come up in her line of work or life.
>>
>>82264229
He was the "audience insert" for that one episode where Pyrrha introduced Aura to him. Apparently that's enough for him to be referred to as the audience insert - even though we learn about the world through so many other characters.
>>
>>82264070
But it's not an impactful mechanic. Unlocking has never been brought up again, from that point on they've always just referred to Aura as Aura with no locked/unlocked prefixes.

If it comes up again it might mean something, but we've gone three seasons with it never being mentioned.

>Because if Aura isn't a field that's surrounding you then it's not a fucking aura.
That's based on the one scene in the WoR animation which sorta implies that. I wouldn't take it as an absolute claim that only the force field effect is Aura. This sort of "inner energy" is incredibly common in fiction because it explains why everyone has access to essentially magic and why they are not splattered in fights instantly.
>"We're literally telling you what you can and can't do with your SOUL" type shit.
"We're literally telling you what you can and can't do with your GUN" type shit."
Rights are nice and all, at some point lenience becomes anarchy. Like I said, extreme Semblances can be incredibly destructive in a manner no gun could ever compare to.
>If you get down to it...
And that's where I pull the razor. This assumes that imbuing Aura is a permanent process and still doesn't explain how the required human element hasn't been implied anywhere else other than the passage which mentions Dust being triggered by Aura. Even the WoR mentions nothing about the interaction with Aura and mentions "just having to pull the trigger."
I just find it silly to just come up with so wild explanations when the Dust interactions are easily explained and commonly accepted.

Look at the shit Jaune did without aura or much confidence in his abilities. Now imagine if he had his aura unlocked and had been in training before hand.

>That's based on the one scene in the WoR animation which sorta implies that.

No, that's based on what the fucking word aura means. The WoR just supports it further.

>"We're literally telling you what you can and can't do with your GUN" type shit."

First, that's not equivalent at all. We're literally talking about your soul here, and Aura rather than Semblances. Secondly, even with that example, a lot of people do fucking hate getting told what they can or can't do with their guns.

I mean, how does that even make sense? You'll let a fifteen year old become superhuman and use a gigantic scythe sniper rifle, send them through a few years of school before allowing them to become a freelance mercenary, but if a civilian wants to activate their own forcefield to protect themselves against those kinds of people, or criminals who don't care, or goddamn monsters, nope that's illegal?

>This assumes that imbuing Aura is a permanent process and still doesn't explain how the required human element hasn't been implied anywhere else other than the passage which mentions Dust being triggered by Aura. Even the WoR mentions nothing about the interaction with Aura and mentions "just having to pull the trigger."

It's been mentioned multiple times (Including by Pyrrha in the fucking scene in question) that all of a Hunter's gear is a conduit for their Aura, and it would also explain why the Grimm destroy Human structures which don't even have Humans in them.

If Jaune was from a village where most of the military force was non-aura fighting men, aura could very well be a teriety thing that nobody mentions.

Jaune could very well be someone who received a farmer's schooling, math, writing and how to work and nothing else.

For all we know Jaune chose to go to Beacon under the reasoning that "it's like the training the boys back home get but better!"

He never mentions hunter in his motivations. Just that his granddaddy was a bad motherfucker.

Do you know how Aura manifests? As an aura. It's not a stretch to call the mana-like substance Aura since the force field effect is its most visible and possibly significant effect.
>and Aura rather than Semblances.
Anyone with an Aura can develop a Semblance.
> a lot of people do fucking hate getting told what they can or can't do with their guns.
An everyone not touched in the head agrees that literally everyone shouldn't have those sort of weapons. Even the most die-hard American gun nuts.
We aren't talking about shooting up a school, we're talking about something much, much more powerful than that.
And really, if you picked up a machine gun and mowed down some schoolkids that would just be a tragedy. In Remnant, trouble like that is exponentially more harmful because it attracts Grimm and can devolve into a downward spiral.
>I mean, how does that even make sense?
The world needs hunters. Training them from young age and closely documenting everything they do is a good way of ensuring that they don't start blowing up building the moment you look the other way. In a perfect world, nobody would have or need such powers but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Hunters were separated from the government because of that, since people thought that it'd give too much power to the already influential.
>and it would also explain why the Grimm destroy Human structures which don't even have Humans in them.
So the builders passively augment the steel beams with Aura? That doesn't sound very likely to me. Not all structures require energy systems. And, again, it has never been mentioned anywhere that anything else than personal gear is infused. For all we know, Salem just want humanity dead and ordered Grimm to attack anything which looks like it's made of concrete.

More like everybody already has their own unique Semblance.

>We aren't talking about shooting up a school, we're talking about something much, much more powerful than that.

It's the same concept. The 99% are worse off because MAYBE 1% of people do something bad. But it doesn't matter because there's literally nothing suggesting that supposition to begin with.

>The world needs hunters. Training them from young age and closely documenting everything they do is a good way of ensuring that they don't start blowing up building the moment you look the other way. In a perfect world, nobody would have or need such powers but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

But Hunters can just go off and do whatever the fuck they want once they graduate. Ain't nobody keeping tabs on the likes of Raven.

>Hunters were separated from the government because of that, since people thought that it'd give too much power to the already influential.

But again, they just let Hunters do whatever they want. They can choose to take official jobs or just become mercs. And then there's Atlas who have their Hunters on lockdown.

That still doesn't account for the police either.

>So the builders passively augment the steel beams with Aura?

It would fit the themes of RWBY. You leave a bit of yourself behind in everything you interact with, form relationships and bonds with, or create. In the real world that idea is metaphorical, in Remnant people would LITERALLY do it because of Aura.

You think they'll kill any more characters next volume?
>>
>>82266356
Maybe, but probably only one. If I had to guess I'd say a member of team SSSN (because they're largely irrelevant and will likely be fighting the villains since they're all in Haven) or Neo (because by all rights she will be getting the Roman treatment)
>>
>>82266389
>Killing a member of team SSSN this early
They're hardly characters. The only one that would have impact is Sun
>>
>>82266356
I don't know.

On one hand we'll likely get offscreen deaths of random characters in an attack for RNJR to angst over a bit.

If we're killing off a major character then it'll probably be one of the teachers or somebody from SSSN if they play a large enough part.

They are fillers, because every team needs to have 4 people in it. Same reason Ren and Nora were made to support Jaune and Pyrrha.

>So if someone didn't have the aura, it wouldn't be an Aura, negating the point of calling it aura.
So why is Dust crystals? And by that logic, what the fuck are Semblances supposed to be if the names are literal?
It's called Aura because it usually manifests as aura.
>More like everybody already has their own unique Semblance.
Potato potato. Bottom line is that you probably can't make use of it without being able to control your Aura.
> The 99% are worse off because MAYBE 1% of people do something bad.
I don't think the gun control debate belongs in this thread, but whatever.
Someone like Glynda going apeshit would be a massive disaster. That isn't nearly comparable to some wacko with a gun, and if I was in Remnant I'd sure as hell hope that people with powers like that were being kept track of.
>they just let Hunters do whatever they want.
That's the point. There is no "who watches the watchers" when everyone is at equal footing. And, iirc, Atlas is getting flak for "aggressively recruiting" graduates.
>It would fit the themes of RWBY.
And conveniently the canon manages to avoid mentioning anything related to this. It's simpler if the Grimm just want to kill humaity because Salem had a bad day and people aren't leaving parts of their souls wherever they go.
