The worst part is the style itself. Shows like Steven Universe or Adventure Time do have errors, but they have ambition - a distinct style and fluidity, with tons of locales that need to be redrawn regularly and large casts of unusual-looking characters. Shows like the modern Simpsons or Teen Titans Go have pretty stiff, cookie-cutter animation that's never gonna blow anyone away, so they pride themselves on consistency, staying on-model and keeping the costs down.

But NuPPG fails at both. If it were dazzlingly animated with a few errors, or cheaply animated with no errors, those would be understandable. But it's neither of those things. It looks like shit, and it can't even do that well.

NuPPG showcases everything wrong with current cartoons. From the SJW propaganda to the lack of originality/personality and just plain old "we don't care."

Consider the sheer audacity of those people. PPG is one of THE cartoons of their golden era and I consider it as one of the best cartoons ever. They did not recognize or capitalize on any of that. The logical thing to do would be to throw money and talent at the reboot, if they cared at all. But they did not and do not care. I think that's the true SJW curse in the end. To them everything is a mass produced and soulless husk. The people behind this do not give two shits about the PPG or for that matter any other cartoon. The emotional resonance is completely absent. To them this is a "brand" and a "product," nothing more and nothing else. And they're milking it

I swear that my current opinion is that cartoons are fucking DEAD. It's a DEAD medium and barring a massive heel turn and infusion of talent and people who actually care shit's going downhill really fast. Cartoons truly dead peak in the 90s and early 00s. Besides that, the body language is fucking artocious, there is just no line of actin at all, they didnt bother actually drawing him for this pose, they just moved the limbs of a 3/4 turn shot for a full half turn pose. They made the cloak too long and for a shot like this it just makes it look like he's tiny and adorable, like a kid wearing their dad's suit. they also made his shoulders smaller, ruining his silouette.

few things have offended my senses as much as this show.
It wasn't enough to use a shit art style, to slightly redesign (read: ruin) the old designs and make new characters that dont fit in at all. No, they had to completely miss and subsequently destroy the whole point of those design decisions to begin with.

Professor Utonium was made up out of squares, like the basis of male anatomy. Similarly Ms Bellum had an hourglass shape. If you look at their proportions compared to the other townsfolk, that wasnt a coincidence. they represent the only mature, intelligent adults. the father and the mother figure to the girls.
Meanwhile the Mayor has proportions more similar to a child, because he was, like the townfolk, a fucking idiot.
The square shape of the professor also made him look more formal and I suppose you'd call it mathematical? Both he and Ms Bellum were supposed to be the intelligent side or morality, raising these kids with incredible muscle to use their powers to do the right thing.

Not that simple. Japanese studios are too busy working on their own IPs. CN/Adult Swim may be co-funding projects, but to get a Japanese studio on a legit western show, CN would have to pay a lot more to entice them away from their own shows.

Also, without giving more creative control on the visuals to the animation studio, you end up with lackluster results like Thundercats.

What CN absolutely should do is to start an in-house studio at its Japanese subsidiary. It's a long term investment, but a wise one as CN is in constant need of new shows. It's absolutely ridiculous that CN and Disney are paying middlemen to animate.
