Shelf, purchase, window shopping and buyfag all-purpose general thread. Even though I'm not a fan, I don't see why we can't showcase figures, collectibles, posters, and other /co/nsumer goods as well.

(Please forgive potato quality on pic related.)

What are you looking forward to /co/?

Thinking of buying Ostrander's Spectre run in floppies (since DC gave up on collecting the series in trades). What would be a fair price for a used lot?
>>
Only started "collecting" comics like 2 years ago.

My lowly collection is made of
> Punisher MAX Vol 1 and 2
> Punisher B/W, Border Crossing, and Last Days (which I was pretty disappointed with, had to look it up on Wikipedia to figure out what the fuck was happening at the end)
> Watchmen
> Wanted
> Max Payne 3
> Frank Miller's RoboCop
> Batman Arkham Unhinged Vol 1

Right now I'm waiting on Punisher MAX vol 3 and 4, and The Boys Omnibus Vol 1 to be reprinted in January.

Got these in the mail today. Mowgli's Mirror is way bigger than I expected. It doesn't fit in my mini comics box. Godzilla in Hell was interesting. I really liked Stokoe, Eggleton, and Wachter's stories. The lettering in Eggleton's clashed badly with the painted art though. It should have been hand-lettered. Wachter's was my favorite by far. I need to look into him. I love his art.

I've mostly just picked up my monthly pulls lately and haven't gotten any new trades outside of manga. I did get My Hero Academia v1 and One Piece v77 last week and plan to grab the next JoJo's Bizarre Adventure hardcover when it comes out at the start of next month.

I finally read Rohan At The Louvre last night and really enjoyed it, though I'm a little confused on the ending. Also have a 10-inch Rohan statue/figure coming.

I'm a little over a third of the way through it. It definitely deserves to be on the same shelf a Alec/Bacchus and Love & Rockets. It's....Transmetropolitan via Cerebus? If you're looking for a concrete narrative, steer clear. If you want navel gazing, psychedelic wilderness-punk, then I highly recommend it.

>>82123229

From the brief research I did the main complaints are: smaller size (which takes away from the art in some of the larger spreads, those large volumes are really a spectacle if you can get them) and the omission of Congo and Alph-Art.

The main reason I passed on it was omitting Congo and Alph-Art. I can understand why those would be left out, but I think Congo is an important look at how historically Africa was viewed in popular culture and the racist elements need to be seen, studied, and remembered, not swept under the rug as if we never held those ideas in the first place. Also, why would you buy a box set that isn't the complete series? Then I'd have two random volumes that don't match the box set, and they'd be out of order on my shelf cause they won't fit in the box!
>>
>>82124481
Not sure if you're looking at the right box set then, mine has Soviets, Congo, and Alph-Art in it. The one I have is called Tintin The Complete Collection published by Egmont.

The size is my biggest complaint but when they say complete it's complete.

Mowgli's Mirror is legitimately one of the most beautiful comix I've EVER read, and certainly the best pantomime comic. A mini-masterpiece.
It IS a big motherfucker though (which is cool), it doesn't even fit in my magazine-sized longbox!
I dig Mizuki, too.

This is the last thing I got. Bought EOTMC comics back when she started self-pubbing them, also just finished Bright-Eyed At Midnight which was very, very good indeed.

>>
>>82132455
volume 1 I bought Used- Good, and volume 2 I bought Used- Like New.

Volume 1 is untouched on the inside, it's just the dust jacket that's banged up a bit.

I splurged on volume 2 because I mostly wanted SS for the Mister Miracle segment.
>>

>>
>>82133026
vol 3 is still available. Better snatch it up now.
>>
>>82132522
Yeah that strict grid was dope, and I love those charcoal(?) looking full page spread breaks...And like you said the palette is GORGEOUS...I didn't like Schrauwen at first when I read him in Mome but he grew on me and by the "guy in the whelchair lives in fantasy world" story I was HOOKED! One of the best of his generation, undoubtedly.
>>
>>82133070
I'll just wait for another reprint, because I just know that if I go and buy that volume now, they'll end up changing the covers/spines for the next reprints and that one volume would stand out on my shelf and trigger me every time I saw it.

I do appreciate the heads up though, Anon.

>>
>>82134557

Unless theyre literally falling apart I don't see why you'd do that, books are meant to be read, which over time will worsen their condition, but it shows that you like them and they've served their purpose.

I've never understood peoples need to replace things just because they don't look brand new anymore, stuff ages too.

just accept that aging gives it personality, shows that you've actually read them and kept them for a long time

Just understand that you comics don't actually hold any resale value, just your own personal value, if they are worn a bit that just means that you read them often, and that's not wrong at all. A worn book has character.

X-Factor V1-5 (pretty much the entire OG X-Factor, IE the only X-Factor worth a damn)

Avengers V1-9 (Avengers #1-206, though I should note that V8 goes for big bucks)

Doctor Strange V1-4 (all of the Strange Tales stories, the Marvel Premiere stuff, and #1-56 of the ongoing)

Punisher V1-4 (Punisher's early appearances plus the original mini and #1-60 of his first ongoing)

X-Men V 1-11 (the entire Claremont run, including material that still has not been collected)

Defenders V1-6 (basically all but the last 16 issues of the 152 issue original series)

Spider-Man 1-11 (basically the first 248 issues, missing the three part Hobgoblin story that Roger Stern wrote as his swan song on the book)

Captain America (the ToS stories plus Cap #100-257, ending with the final Byrne/Stern issue).

Should note that there is some overlap issues with the Epics that make it hard to mix and match. Case in point, the last Cap trade has about 15 issues not in the Epic Cap trade that collects the Byrne/Stern run, while said Epic Trade has about ten issues that are not in the Epic Trade. Meanwhile there are two Defender softcovers (the upcoming Epic and the one-off New Defenders TPB) that have overlapping content from multiple volumes (the Epic will basically be V4 and 6-7 issues from V5 and New Defenders has the last 4-5 issues from V5 and 1/3rd of V6)

Similarly, Avengers #197-207 are not available in any color reprint format, as is Uncanny X-Men #177-188 and huge chunks of X-Factor and Punisher.

The first Doctor Strange Essential goes for huge huge bucks and will probably continue to do so since given how it has material that will not be in the upcoming omnibus (pretty much all of the non-Ditko Strange Tales stories) and the next volume after the omnibus, being essentially the second Essential Volume as far as collecting the Marvel Premier stuff.
>>
>>82157795
I liked Harbinger cause of the characters that aren't the main characters. Also, its more of a twist on the X-Men concept. The kids in it aren't the best people in the world (aside from Faith anyway) and the closest thing to a Xavier parallel is, while after a more peaceful world, willing to kill anyone that has a chance of getting in his way. Hell, he killed Peter's junkie friend for no other reason other than he wasn't important to his goal. Also, I own more valiant that what's here, but most of that is digital.

Material-wise, it is one of the best constructed HC.

Just came back from a con and these were my findings

In total i've spent only 26€, but on my way home i suddenly realized the Kingdom Come book wasn't actually the complete story, but the 2nd part of a 2-parts edition (that fucking "2" after the title is sooo tiny), so now i pretty much have to buy the first part too online sooner or later

I feel so stupid, i thought i was getting a particularly good deal (considering the hardcover) and instead by the end i'll have paid 25€ for the complete thing, a pretty standard price. Oh well, personally i guess the art alone is worth it

Well.... you're really not wrong.

For years I was waiting for the Fantagraphics stuff to be affordable. And now with the two book set Dark Horse has and the Saga volumes, I'm about all set. I just want to polish off a few other parts of my collection first. Square a few things away. Probably by the end of the year. I think they can publish 2-3 more Saga's anyway.
>>
>>82157598

If you like Cosmic, get the two Warlocks. The Jim Starlin's Warlock trade is missing an issue.

Also the first 11ish Fantastic Four ones are oout in paperback, and collect the Lee/Kirby run.

Vol 6 of UYS comes out in a couple weeks, 7 is out I think in October or November

Okay yeah. If he finished 31, which seems to be coming out in issues now. Volume 8 can be 29031. Volume 9 can be Yokai and Senso, as well as Space Usagi. I think that works out.

Granted, it's not Sakai seems to be stopping until he drops dead, but that's something for now.

Shit son, you've come to the right anal retentive dumb fuck. Let's do this.

To complete the DnA/Giffen era you need:

Thanos Redemption. It collects the 12 issue series that was half Starlin, and then Giffen. The last six issues are actually part of the lead up to Annihilation, but never talked about as such.

Silent War if you want to know why the Inhumans fucked off to the moon.

Of course, Annihilators, and Annihilators Earthfall for DnA's last contributions to Cosmic.

The Rocket Raccoon and Groot collection for their Annihilators back ups, as well as their original material.

Do you want to go even further into 70's, 80's, and 90's stuff?
>>
>>82181144

Is that all 12 issues, or just 7?

If it's 12, you did okay. If it's 7, you fucked up.

>>
>>82182076

>>
>>82181675
Sure. As you can see I had a small selection of earlier stuff as well.

I do have Thanos Redemption and the Infinity Gauntlet omni on my to read pile.
>>
>>82182554

Oh nice. Well. Fucking copy paste this shit, because I'm probably going to spend slightly too much of my life typing it all out. First off, the Gauntlet omni collects all of the tie ins in the back, AFTER the main book. I'm going to be working on a reading list for myself, as I just got that beaut myself. If you want the reading list, let me know.

You can get the original Captain Marvel stuff in Masterworks. Only the first has come out in paperback.

Avengers vs. Thanos is where cosmic gets going. This trade is essentially the Life part of Life and Death of Captain Marvel expanded. Stop reading this once you hit the Warlock issues, and read the Logan's Run short, the Final Flower.

For Warlock: Either the two Masterworks in hardcover, or the first in paperback, and then Jim Starlin's Warlock. Annoyingly Starlin's Warlock is just the second Masterwork missing an issue which adds a bit to the Gauntlet stuff decades later.

The Death of Captain Marvel.

Nova Classic 1-3. Not nearly as Cosmic as you may want, but interesting to see where Rich came from.

Avengers: The Celestial Madonna. First half of Mantis' story, which would not be resumed until the 90's. Curiously, the character sort of bounced around from company to company. Sort of. It's fascinating in a way, look it up on Wikipedia.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Tomorrows Avengers 1-2. Collects all of their original stuff. The previous two small hardcovers, and the Korvac Saga, as well as other stuff.

Avengers: Legacy of Thanos. Nebula shows up.

Avengers: The Contest. Some Elder's of the Universe stuff.

Secret Wars: More Elder's of the Universe stuff. They like to make people fight. They're shitty people.

Guardians of the Galaxy by Valentino 1-3. First 30 issues of the ongoing.

Silver Surfer Rebirth of Thanos is totally collected in the Gauntlet omni, except for the Logan's Run short, which is in Avengers vs Thanos. The Gauntlet itself.

Infinity Gauntlet Aftermath.
>>
>>82181964
Its all 12.
>>

>Silver Surfer Rebirth of Thanos is totally collected in the Gauntlet omni, except for the Logan's Run short, which is in Avengers vs Thanos.
Well, I didn't know about that. Glad you let me know. I gave that book to a friend for Christmas along with Infinity Gauntlet after I got the omni.

A good portion of those are already on my amazon wishlist so we'll see what happens through Summer.
>>
>>82182929

This is all off the top of my head. Some mistakes here and there.

Should have already listed the one volume of Quasar Classic to come out. After Secret Wars.

Also should have listed the Starlord trade of his original material.

Gauntelt Aftermath. Bunch of Infinity Watch issues, other related things.

Infinity War. Does that annoying thing where the ties in are in the back.

Infinity War Aftermath.

Infinity Crusade 1-2

Thor: Blood and Thunder. Thanos shows up. Some Infinity Watch and Warlock issues.

Warlock and the Infinity Watch volume 2. You don't have to bother with Volume 1. It's all in Gauntlet Aftermath, War, War Aftermath, and Crusade. The issues dealing with Blood and Thunder are not collected with anything cosmic.

Cosmic Powers. Sort of... dated. But Thanos and shit, written by Ron Marz.

Infinity Abyss. Back to Starlin.

Thor vs Thanos. Jurgans having Thor and Thanos fight. That kind of stuff.

Marvel: The End. Thanos wins! It's not meant to be canon at all. But Starlin snuck it in in the ongoing, and Brevoort has never admitted it.

Galactus the Devourer. Surfer. Mantis, and Galactus. it wraps up in a way where you may want the continuation, which is only in issues in Fantastic Four for now.

Avengers Celestial Quest. The other half of Mantis' story. Took a long time, right? 25 years.

Starlin just finished off a five act story that's the closest he can get to wrapping some things up, and an epilogue to Hickman's stuff.
>>
>>82183234

I highly suggest the Avengers vs Thanos trade, either the Warlock Masterworks 2, or Starlin trade, and Death of Captain Marvel. That's the entire original era, and a great story. Legacy of Thanos is good too, and Starlin used Nebula later, so hey.
>>
>>82183035

>>
>>82183250
Well.

Time to start collecting pennies from the street.
>>
>>82183345

Uh, I forgot. After the Gauntlet should be Operation Galactic Storm 1 and 2. All out war between the Kree and Shi'ar. Kidn of 90s, but all out cosmic war.
>>
>>82183330
As far as I know the early editions still had 10 jssues. They just added the intro pages and Last Rites to the new edition.

I could be wrong though. My copy has 10 issues but maybe the very early ones just had 7.

Get Bone; Tall Tales too. Smiley Bone telling campfire stories. It was neat.

Also, get Rose. A prequel about... well yeah, it'll be obvious and you'll see. Both were good for different reasons.

There was a sequel novel trilogy with illustrations by Smith. I haven't read that yet. Out of fear I think. Somebody else handled the writing. That feels weird. They are fully authorized and such. It's just... weird.

It's so weird because DC had reprinted Spirit World, a Jack Kirby comic nobody wanted(and I'm being serious, I've seen several copies at my local book store going for like 10 bucks) instead of reprinting Fourth World omnibuses again, the sad thing is they probably used that as a way to gauge interest in them printing more Kirby comics.

Depnding upon what's wrong with them, here are some suggestions.

You could iron them to remove wrinkles (I've learned a lot through trial and error with the process). I typically dampen the interior of the cover and iron with a piece of cloth over it. Once the over is pliable, put a stack of 3 or so pieces of plain printer paper (sketch pad paper works incredibly well too) inside to protect the pages and absorb excess moisture from the cover. Next, place it wet side down on a firm, flat, and SMOOTH surface. The last part is important because the cover will pick up any indentations or patterns in the surface if it is not. Place several books or other heavy objects on the book to press it flat and leave it be for a few hours. After that time, swap out the paper for new sheets and repeat the pressing. After another few hours, the excess moisture should be gone and you can place a comic book board inside to help keep the flat shape as you press it for a few days (a week or two may be necessary depending upon the condition) more uninterrupted. Repeat as needed.

Lightly rub baby oil into the cover with tissue or soft cloth and let it soak in before wiping away the excess to decrease or possibly remove scuffing in the cover.

The Human Race is fantastic and one of the best Flash stories. Rest are good( Still Life in The Fast Lane is a very good Jay story, the Mirror Master one shot was also really cool and Emergency Stop is good) but there's also stinkers like that crossover story with Green Lantern and Green Arrow and the Black Flash story is awful.

Definitely worth picking up though.

It's a fun read. If you don't much about Golden Age Wonder Woman some elements might seem bizarre or out of place (eg the bondage elements and the sorority girls) but if you know a lot it might come off as a retread of comics you've already read. I'd recommend it overall though.

>>

the answer will almost always be yes unless they advertise it otherwise like the batman year one absolute
>>
>>82204573
>I bet it's terrible, right

Not really, they got Steve Oliff who is a pretty great colorist. I think it was the right movie since old colors don't tend to hold up on new glossy paper
>>
>>82204670

Honestly the old Visionaries looked great to me. The coloring really fits for comics written and drawn from the time. Usually when I see new colors on old comics it looks VERY digital, very amateurish, just a horrible bad fit. I recall seeing a ton of the old Thor back ups recolored. It looked like a joke, making fun of Kirby's art. Bad photoshop lighting effects and all.

I don't get why do it, the colors were fine, and if I buy an old comic, I want what it too look like it did at the time.

Yeah a lot of it is, especially when you see digital restorations of old colors that end up being too bright. Oliff has been around since the late 80's and was one of the first digital ones. If you've ever seen the colors in early Spawn that was him

I think his Thor work looks great
>>
>>82204777

There were five volumes collecting the whole run. If you're interested in getting the old colors, I would say yes. It seems like it's still possible, and not terribly pricey. But it's probably a bit hard to make sure you get the old versions rather than the new.
>>
>>82204821

Not always true. Not nearly. There are plenty of collections that improve on the presentation of the line work while showing off the old colors.
>>

>>82205290

Instead of going for any sort of aesthetic they just color everything to look as "normal" as possible. It's also clearly cheap shitty work utilizing boring digital tools like those shit gradients. All of that plus the dissonance created by having original pencils/inks with new digital coloring on those disgusting glossy pages make it all hideous. Effort should be made towards restoration, not towards cheap recreation. Look at how Fanta handles those Young Romance collections of even The Complete Eightball to see how an archival edition should look.

poorfag here. i don't have a shelf. as a result of trading and buying used, sometimes borrowing from friends too, i've ended up reading more than most. some of you should try it.

i recently traded Scud the Disposable Assassin for some store credit on some original greyhawk d and d manuals for my parents, along with saga vol 5 and Low vol 2.

read the saga 5 and traded that in at another store for credit on The Bus by Kirchner. got my grandma to read it and she said "it's crazy!"

looking forward to:

reading Elephantmen when have the money to buy them used, trying out Grendel, and the last random issues to complete the Mutant X series with Havok in an alternate timeline should come in the mail soon. Blacksad would be nice to read too. i've only caught a few storytimes of that.
