It's been a long time since I've read it, but things that stick out the most are deaths for the sake of shock value with no proper build-up, or any build-up for that matter. One-dimensional cackling Mary Sue villains (I know Morlun wasn't the deepest character under JMS, but under Slott he became even more of a joke), characters acting like idiots, awful dialogue, no tension whatsoever, anticlimactic ending.

The main event was pretty solid (I'd give it a B+) ans because of the nature of the event, they were allowed to play around with a bunch of the previous events and be experimental. I enjoyed Ghost Racers and Civil War (mostly for Yu), but Age of Ultron vs Marvel Zombies was a miss.

The core event was good. Definitely flawed, but still better than most other Marvel events.

The event tie-ins ranged from mediocre and forgettable to some top tier stories that are worth reading regardless of your interest in Secret Wars. Secret Wars: Infinity Gauntlet was my favorite cosmic comic since Thanos Imperative.

So is it confirmed Ultimate End was a completely unrelated book the got the dialogue changed and smudged into Secret Wars? Because the art and plot as shown didn't line up with the event or make any kind of sense in relation to the event or on it's own.

No matter how much you hate Bendis I feel like this was him giving up. A good portion of his professional was spent on keeping the Ultimate universe good. Through everything he pushed through, he fucking stayed the course through Ultimatum. Ultimate Spider-man from 1# to Death of Peter Parker might be his greatest story he's ever told.

Imagine hearing everyone say that years of your life will be made null. Imagine hearing everyone in unison say "well it was a fun ride but now it's over". Imagine being told you were going to write it, dig the grave for your favorite character.

He only got to keep one, he chose Miles.
