I'm doing a reread right now, after I'm gonna reread all of the other mspadventures then Homestuck again because this is what my life has become.

Still waiting on my Breath hoodie I ordered the other day. It's a shame it's not the right color, but oh well.

Rereading this gets better each time. You catch a few more tidbits, and I think by my fifth reread in the next month or so I'll fully understand it. This time so far (just starting Act 6) I finally realized that the person who was Jade's pen pal and helped work on Liv was Jake. Should've clicked when I first read HS then saw how Jake typed, but oh well.

it's a shame that Cascade is the climax because I love every part from WV: Ascend up until Cascade. I don't HATE Act 6, however the Alpha kids are kinda boring aside from Trickster, aside from Roxy. Roxy's cool.

After rereading it, I sort of realized why it was quick to fall off it's high horse. The most interesting and engaging meat of the story, sburb is neglected and shafted completely some part through the 5th act. As one of the strongest characters, the setting is severely neglected and by the end pretty much a non-factor. Everything about the planets and world building gets shoddy exposure save for the Genesis frog at the end, and even that we really only see the very end of. Is it any wonder this comic became a slogged out bore?

Don't listen to all the naysayers. The first part of the comic (Act 1) is a bit slow, but by Acts 2-5 are filled with intertwining plot threads along with really funny dialogue and great characters. a couple of years back I read the entire thing from start to the lastest page right after reading PS and really loving it. I never got involved with the fandom, never made a single post in HS general, it was just a webcomic I enjoyed.

I feel like it really became too big a phenomenom and at some point I realized it was pandering to someone who just wasn't me. I like adventure video games and old jRPGs and the 'strange cosmic adventures' vibe and that gradually got phased out in favor of relationships and trolls and fanservice and what not. I just couldn't bother anymore. I haven't read the ending yet and I don't think I'll ever do it since I barely remember the events leading up to it

Remember that human romance is limited to red romance except when it wasn't, or that all leprechauns are gay except when Jones conveniently preferred Snowbar as a ship so wait no Crowbar's straight now. Someone explain the while lusus deal with trolls. I know that their blood determines their caste and can give them abilities but what confuses me is the lusus aspect. Specifically, the idea of trolls of the same blood colour each having a lusus of the same kind.

Like, Vriska had to kill trolls in order to feed her lusus which probably affected her and was a part of her becoming this bitchy glory hound she is today. What about other Cerulean trolls who would also have a spider lusus and would presumably also have to kill to survive? Wouldn't that just mean that there are hundreds, if not thousands of trolls exactly like Vriska?

Another thing, Terezi states that her lusus was distant until she became blind and only then did her lusus take her in and teach her how to 'see' the world. What about other trolls of Terezi's caste? Are they just shunned unless they become blind?

What my issue is that it seems impossible for there to be any kind of individuality in the trolls world.

Homestuck is about 4 kids playing a reality-altering videogame that brings about the apocalypse. They're each transported to a personal themed planet in a pocket dimension as part of their game session. They're contacted by a group of aliens who've played the game before but were stopped just short of winning. The aliens want to help the kids finish their own messed up version of the game and to escape the aborted-game limbo they're trapped in. There's also a ton of mobsters and time travel. More shit happens after that, but that's the base of the first half of it.

It has 8000 pages, 150 characters, and 5 distinct alien races, not counting the animals that populate the planets the kids were given and probably some one-offs I'm forgetting. It's a fun read, mostly. The humor is very distinct.

Try Problem Sleuth first if you want to get a sense of it. It's about 1000 much shorter pages and it wraps up really nicely.

There is a satisfying build-up until a resolution to the problem is found.
The other half of the story then introduces a new cast and a new problem and then spends four fucking years building the plot back up until the author gets tired and shits the overly simple, newly finished ending animation he had commissioned years ago.
