It was good but it left no lasting impact on me at all. I thought it was a little self indulgent too although that's probably me making assumptions about McCloud.

It was completely a waste of time. I've read fucking Jeffrey Brown trash that was more interesting.

It shouldn't be all that surprising. Some guys are just better at teaching something than actually doing the thing they teach (and vice versa). Think of it this way: some of the best current NBA coaches were relatively unremarkable or one-dimensional college or pro basketball players (see: Gregg Popovich, Rick Carlisle, Steve Kerr). Some of the best boxing and MMA trainers have mediocre win-loss records. McCloud might be the comics version of the same phenomenon.

Also Steve Kerr was one of the best situational shooters in his era, he couldn't dominate a game like Reggie Miller bit he could bury teams and win games.

Fair point (although I'm not the biggest Zot! fan... I'm more of a Nexus guy myself if we're comparing somewhat thematically similar comics from roughly the same era).

Could just be that he started buying into his own hype after all the acclaim he got for writing Understanding Comics.

Not to derail the thread, but yeah, Kerr is one of the greatest shooting specialists in the modern NBA era (I'm not disputing that at all), but as I said, his game was pretty one-dimensional. Didn't mean to suggest that he was a "bad" player by any stretch of the definition.

McCloud has a lot of style. The problem is that he does not use it in the service of the story he want to tell. Sculptor is better to see than to read.
