Man, having watched the final flash again, it's really gorgeous, both visually and musically. It's just a shame it's the last page of the comic because it ends up feeling disconnected at certain points. Just a few more things needed to be said for it to feel remotely complete, but instead it ends up feeling inconclusive and anticlimactic after a build up of seven fucking years, like Hussie saw 4/13 coming round and decided to rush things out of the door before looking over them one last time. Even the "Thanks for playing" feels more like it's a message from SBURB to the kids, rather than from Hussie to you.

Here's a playlist of all of Bill Bolin's music, which was cut from Homestuck around the time Act 4 ended. The reason was because Hussie posted a bunch of Bolin's work-in-progress to the actual comic in the Shut Up and Jam flash, which really pissed Bolin off. Apparently tension had been building for a long time behind the scenes, because eventually Bolin posted a huge rant about how Hussie was incredibly unprofessional about managing the team and giving them direction/respect, that he played favorites and so on. It ended with a photo of him flipping the team off. The post was deleted and the flashes replaced, but what with Homestuck's later debacles with WhatPumpkin and the music team it seems like there was a grain of truth to what he said.

Lost's ending was fucking fantastic, especially compared to this one. It didn't solve every mystery, it didn't even explain a few of the ones it did very nicely, but it CARED, dammit. So what happens to the two jujus once the fight is over? And the alpha kids are just stuck in the past on Caliborn's planet until the beta team bails them out? Thinking about it that way, there's no tension at all here. The beta kids eventually get released from the juju to fight LE with Vriska, and then warp their asses on over to pick up the west of the squad and resume what they were doing. There's nothing heroic or sacrificial about this, we just don't get to see them fight LE.

Unless of course the beta kids got turned into juju food, but that doesn't seem to be the case with their symbols on the house at the end. Not only that, but there's not really any reason for them to fight Caliborn and get juju'd in the first place. Most of homestuck's stable timeloops (from what I remember) have been pretty naturally occurring. This one feels like they're completing it because they simply know they're supposed to (do they know they're supposed to?).

I'm gonna level with you. I lost all track of what I was doing very quickly.

I fucking cracked it. The secret truth hidden within Act 7. Reposting a lot of shit figured out at the end of last thread.

The first clue was examining the different elements of act 7, one of which stands out.

Caliborn destroys his God-Tier clock in an effort to become immortal. This stands out because it is unusual in its seeming unimportance relative to everything else in that flash, although I suppose its status as the climax of Caliborn's adventure could give it a case. Even so, it is easily the least important scene, on a surface level, at least (although that animation was the sexiest part of the whole thing that didn't involve Jade).

Secondly, note how Caliborn destroys his god-tier clock. With the crowbar, the one that has the sick power to make magic time bullshit no longer magic in the slightest. Does anyone remember this happening before and having a very different effect? That's right, Spades Slick uses the crowbar to destroy Vriska's God-tier clock, but in this case, it causes her to die. Why the difference? Well, Vriska was actively being judged at the time. She'd been stabbed, and her death was being mulled over by this self-righteous judgement clock. So SS hits it, jamming it and forcing a Just outcome. The reason Caliborn doesn't get randomly killed by his own enthusiastic timepiece trashing is because he removes the pendulum, effectively jamming the judgement needle right in the middle, before he smashes the whole thing. Good job Caliborn, your morality-clock disarmament skills are on point.

Next, we've all been wondering why the retcon had to happen, why Vriska needs to be alive at all. It's sometimes difficult to grasp what effects the retcon could have, and what escapes it. But there's one thing that very clearly did change. Vriska didn't get fucking stabbed. Hence, her God Clock never activated.

Instead of rereading Homestuck should I just rewatch all the flashes?

Shout out to, ironically, the best character in this series. Genetically predisposed to hate and loathe everything, yet still a child at heart who just wants to have fun and play a game to the best of his ability. Finally, we have one more question to ask before we can draw our conclusion: Is there any reason the retcon could interrupt SS's own clock carnage? Well, I suppose the sound of the god clock ticking and tocking while making its decision could have alerted Slick to its presence, but frankly, SS is a profesionnal clock murderer with over a thousand confirmed kills. I reckon he would have detected that clock regardless. This is the one escape Hussie has if this is a genuine plot hole, though, so it's worth mentioning.

So, our conclusion is as follows:

Vriska has achieved true immortality. Her god tier is intact, and her clock has been disabled. She simply cannot die. While SS's clock disarmament skills are shoddy at best, in this case it seems to have not resulted in an instant death, so we can assume her clock's hand is stuck perfectly in its default position, right in the goddamn middle.

The plot of Nightfall could be handled better, and so could the pokemon girl, just like most characters, but compare that with the rest of the fandventures... well, I got my eyes on Hackbent, meaning to start reading it soon
