He's one hot motherfucker. I still need to finish it though.
>>
Love the artwork, but the comic itself's a little boring
>>
Look like a jojo character
>>
>>81731939
Like most euro comics it's dull with good art

As someone who doesn't really read euro comics I'd say it's still like an 8 out of 10

seeing as how it predates Jojo by 2 decades and how almost everything in jojo is inspired by something else it's pretty safe to say it is.

Ballad of The Salt Sea is one of the greatest comics ever made. Hell, it might be one of the best stories of the past century.
>>81733396
There have been a few English reprints over the years, and IDW are doing their own translations as well as brand new Corto stories from modern writers/artists.
>>
>>81733082
And the fact that Hugo Pratt was massively influential in general.

IDW is putting stuff out and thank god because after that most recent Ballad of the Salt Sea release it was looking like that would have been the end for english Corto.

It's great. It has some slow parts but it pays back at the end. The whole setting fits Hugho Pratt style and it shows. Corto is good and it's not even the best character. For me personally beside the fact that I'm italian and it's like one of the many holy grails here it's a must read.

A well-dressed sailor. I love Ballad of The salt Sea and Pratt´s draw style, but I must admit I only read that story and one that take place in my country. I know there are other more lag here, I have to look for it.

I liked this one better than Ballad of the Salt Sea.

And you can pirate a copy in English, if you know where to look.

Is this becoming an /italiano/ thread? I've been wanting to read Dylan Dog, are they ever going to translate more of his stuff or am I just relegated to pirated Italian --> Portuguese --> English translations?

>>
>>81740960
Specifically, it's 1.75 pages, completely ruining the humor.
>>
>>81731939
not bad.
I know it only because we have two comics in my local library.
Otherwise I know not much about him or the writers.
I didn't even know it was an italian comic.
>>
>>81731939
It ranges from pretty good to absolute GOAT depending on the album/story. Great characters, incredible attention to detail (if you see an aboriginal australian auxiliary solider in the background, you can bet the uniform is 100% period accurate; same with freemason rites), and some of the most diverse amount of cultures pictured in any comic.
Frankly, it's so diverse that its hard to do a single review. Doesn't help that depending on the story it can go from trench warfare to abstract dream ripe with symbolism, with anything in-between.

The rest of Pratt's work is in the same vein and in the same universe (Ann of the Jungle, the Desert Scorpions, Ernie Pike, even Wheeling iirc). It's very consistent, and those that like Corto will probably appreciate the others.

>>81733940
Ballad of the Salt Sea is fuking magical.
I had the chance of going to an exhibit in Paris where all the original art was on the wall, it was a read like no other.
I considered going back with a rifle and a backlava to steal it, too.
>>
I read that first IDW collection and it was ok but i didn't think it was anything special. feel like i'm missing out on something
>>
>>81742082
>backlava
I don't think pastry will help.
>>
>>81742161
Yeah I wasn't really into that album until the end. The story about Corto and Rasputin hunting for old pirate treasure was fantastic
>>
>>81733940
IDW's release schedule is so fucking bad though
>>
>>81731939
best shit ever if you like yoru comics to be intellectual and not dumb. been reading it since 1973. He was a bit too cool in the movies tho.
Hugo lost his way after Fable of Venice became too clever for its own good.
>>
HATE that they are now continuing with new Corto stories after Hugo's death. They should have left it to rest out of respect for Hugo.

Why does /co/ have an infatuation with boring euro crap?
>>
>>81744356
cuz even at its worst, it's ALWAYS 1000% better than silly American crap(Robert Crumb an exception)

Huh, never heard of that. Love those collections of the Pratt stuff though.
>>
>>81744520
go back to reading the latest Jim lee and Liefield and DON'T FORGET to give ALL your extra cash to MARVEL by watching the new X-Men crappyu movie 3 times.
>>
>>81744677
I'm pretty sure there is exactly just one Dylan Dog DH translation and in typical DH fashion it was released before the movie came out and they never released another one
>>
>>81744356
100 times better than the same shitty live action threads all the time.
>>
>>81744520
how is corto even hipster
is tintin hipster or astérix?
>>
>>81744677
I didnt know Pratt was Ok with it. one of the new comics is about Corto's father in Cuba, using exact Pratt's style. i dunno if i like it yet.

im waiting to see ARZAK continued with new artists, since most likely moebius' second wife probably has the copyright.

All I'm saying is the stuff you're saying is out of date. Marvel doesn't own X-Men movies and Jim Lee/Liefeld aren't currently on books. You wanna shitpost about American comics, that's fine but at least put effort into it rather than trying to come off all holier than thou by being older.

Corto got a good number of cameos. From the top of my mind:

Dark Knight Returns (name of an island)
De Cape et de Crocs (in a bar in issue 2, first panel in pic)
The Secret History (about to be killed by franquist firing squad)
and some illustrations by Paul Pope, too.

>>81742417
Well, you wouldn't want to risk hypoglycemia during a heist.
>>
Unfortunately I've never read it. I have a hard time finding translated euro comics in general, though, which sucks since I love Euro stuff.
How does the series compare to, say, Tintin? I've read that series as well as Asterix ever since I was little and I consider myself a fan of both.
>>
>>81733082
>>81734207
there's a fictional island in the DC universe called Corto maltese that gets name dropped every now and then, to show how far reaching it is.
>>
>>81747522
>illustrations by Paul Pope

You best be posting those right now, Pope's a treasure.
