Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron will suit you well, is about a guy who has a dream like adventure to rescue his wife, it gets weirder and weirder ina slow manner and the main character never surrenders.

If you want some abstract shit....like really abstract shit check out Grant Morrisons the invisibles.
It's about a group of rebel agents who are fighting the powers that be so to speak. Id rather not get into too many specifics cos the journey of learning all the nooks and crannies of the world is part of the fun. Also its the book the wachowskis brothers ripped off when they made the plot for their movie the matrix. But it aint about robots or any of that shit.
Again it gets really abstract and fucking weird.

Read Bone and Usagi Yojimbo

Git into the classics yo.
Little Nemo by McCay for Art Nouveau Gorgeousness.
Prince Valiant by Hal Foster for that Chanson de Geste and high adventure with vintage fantasy inks, also Arthurian myth.
Tintin by Hergé are always wonderful too. Just genuninley good adventure novellas with kickass art and great characters.

Judge Dredd and Hellboy are easily my 2 go to favorites, plus the BPRD stuff that I think is a spin off of Hellboy too.
Also the DOOM comic, which is fucking hilarious and always great to read.

If you're up for a webcomic then Stand Still Stay Silent which is about a small group of people exploring a post apocalyptic Europe. Gorgeous art, fantastic character designs and generally engrossing

The weird, convoluted story with all the subtle and not so subtle references to esoteric /x/-tier shit like Marduk, Xibalba the nested tesseract and so on. /x/ is my regular board and I'm into that sort of shit so it's not for everyone.
