Same. The first episode I watched was a Season 2 episode so I didn't have the whiplash of the change, but looking back I think the Season 2 style it just more aesthetically pleasing.

I think they were aiming for designs that would be more cost efficient or easier to animate. There was a blog that went into more detail about it as well as some of the other creative decisions behind the show.

The decision to make Jake scrawnier was a creative choice as well, as they felt that since Jake was starting out his dragon form should be like his human form insofar as being lanky and relatively untrained.
