Also, for those that don't want to watch the episode, allow me to summarise it:

It starts in school with Buttercup wanting to have fun instead of learn. There's a rainbow that suddenly appears that makes everyone happy, but also makes them completely stop caring about anything, and apparently also makes them crash cars for some reason. The PPG go into the rainbow to see why, and find there's this psychedelic bear party going on inside. This talking panda bear says it's the boss, and brainwashes Blossom and Bubbles into wanting to do nothing but party. Buttercup says there's a time for fun and a time for seriousness. Then beats up the talking panda bear (it's not a fight, it's just Buttercup hitting the bear a little bit), which makes the rainbow dissapear into nothingness and everything goes back to normal. Ends with a scene back in school where Buttercup says she's super serious about learning now.

This episode is really, REALLY bad! It, on it's own, has made me downgrade my opinion from PPG to "Not that bad, but very bland, and there's no reason to watch it" to "Okay yes, it really is that bad".

This is the laziest way to ignore valid criticism of children's media. I can't even understand why people continue to dish it out with a completely serious face. Just because something is made for children means that it doesn't need to be criticized? That it's okay to be made at a low standard? Be Cool Scooby Doo looks a LOT better in motion. It's actually pretty good. It's not really much like TTG, except for the fact that it's a more comedic reboot of a series i guess. The only really bad stuff is that the jokes occasionally fall flat and the mysteries are pretty fucking obvious since there's only like two or three possible suspects introduced in each ep. That's the problem with ten minute episodes.

But the reboot doesn't do that. They try to bite the style without recognizing any of the nuance the old show had. It's animation was actually very tame and rigid, not this whacky shit they're doing with their faces.
If they made an effort to clearly make the show look different, then it may have been forgivable as just "a shitty other PPG series". But instead, they're trying to be "a continuation of the original" and in that case it's just a straight up tumor.

Exactly. PPGZ had its own style to it. It's kinda like when Mario was in Super Mario RPG on the SNES. People hail that as one of the best Mario games, but it's not really a MARIO game -- Mario is just in it. Likewise, PPGZ is decent, but it's not a PPG show -- it's an anime show with PPG characters.

It's beyond obvious that the crew working on this show had zero intention of doing a real powerpuff girls reboot, they just wanted to cash in on the property and do their own thing.

It's not even the same style of show anymore, there's no regard for the old character or world design sheets.

Last Saturday some friends and I were tripping on booms, and at the end of the trip we went to grab some drinks and some food. We went to an establishment that's changed businesses 4 times in the past 3 years, nobody can sustain a business there, always expensive good on a bar street, doesn't do well.

I had to leave because it was obviously already dying and they'd been open a week, it was hard to be in there. Owner was pushing for us to tell our friends, etc.
