The boys is actually something that could benefit from a strong change in direction. Preacher on the other hand doesn't sound interesting at all anymore because it feels entirely neutered. It might be okay as its own thing, of course.

The first thirty or so issues of The Boys is Ennis piling on his "LOL Ennis thinks capeshit is trash" style knowingly and letting the real events subtly play out in the background. Then when it hits issue 30 and the end of the G-Men arc and Vaught American lets their intentions be known. It lets shit get real as fuck and turns the book into a really intense corporate and political thriller with the "lol Ennis" going further in the background.

I don't see how they could change the direction because the direction is the point because the book isn't anti-cape and never was and it's part of the swerves Ennis and McRea pulled.
