When I was writing a Superman fan script, the title was "The Man of Tomorrow" and, before Superman arrived, Lex Luthor was known as the "man of tomorrow" because of his tech company and scientific genius (kind of like how people are like "wow steve jobs so visionary what a guy wow much innovation").

When Superman arrives, people start calling him the "Man of Tomorrow," and this sort of symbolizes the threat Superman poses to Luthor's identity and why he hates him.
