He seems more possible in many incarnations and the fun places writers take him. Because he's the fucking doc.

The arms are such a neat visual that Metal Gear stole it, and he forced his way into everyone's hearts during Superior.

Has generic but an interesting origin. For example, Banner was a school shooter which had terrible childhood. He later redeemed himself thanks to the opportunities military gave him. He tried to do good. Hulk is his childhood persona. This equation clearly gives us the idea that Banner still tries to fix this childhood since Hulk is actually a good person. It's the reverse with Ock. Had terrible childhood. Tried to fix the world. It blew up on his face and went full psycho. His psychotic nature made him obsessed with Spidey.

I think the first comic with Doc Ock I read was the Civil War one where he sees Peters news broadcast. Goes on a rampage because he could have killed off his nemisis early on, but let him go mistakenly

Funny how in the AoU Tie in he acts more like a Peter Parker after he learns the value of teamwork

What I find funny about doc is that in the process of coming up with a new energy source he created super advanced robot arms attached to his nervous system. Like it was a side project. He created prosthetics that weren't rejected by his body, connected perfectly to his brain and increased the capabilities of his mind (how does his brain deal with 4 more arms?). All of that is insane and would revolutionise the world and he did it as a side project!
But then he went crazy and started spending time by robing banks and fighting a teenage boy in a tight costume.

If there's one thing I don't like about Spider-Man's rogues gallery, it's how in practice most of the big names are just thugs. Outside of Venom, Kraven, and occasionally Goblin, the default state for most of them is either participating in organized crime or robbing banks for some arbitrary goal.
