I feel like the comic took a nose-dive into "Nothing happening". Worse of all the people there in the threads are very clingy to Morbi, don't accept criticism and worse of all any attempt at in-world OC is met with criticism and "Get back to Endtown thread, faggot". It's true though. Look at the story as a whole where she becomes a prominent character and remove her from it: everything would still play out the same. Holly, Wally, and Chic would have escaped from Unity, Holly would regroup with Clive and go insane, someone (possibly Chic) would hide it and she would threaten him to spill the info, Clive gets nuked, and then we get into Holly's backstory via possible-ditto induced flashback.

We still don't know much about Kirbee, but maybe Aaron will write more story for her later on down the line where she has more of an impact on the story as a whole.

A dangerous mutagenic liquid has been introduced into the setting, and Kit's fiddling around with it behind everyone's backs. Poda orchestrated a dragon attack that left the nation's power supply in the hands of a mob boss-made-prime minister.
Poppy's finally taking Kit up on her ambassador proposal, and her relationship with the queen is likely to drag her smack dab in the middle of all of the conspiracy shit going on.
By contrast, the only things in Poppy 2 that had any real plot consequence is that Kit saw Poppy and took an interest in her, and the mob made a bunch of money on the fights.
Aside from that, it's probably too early to say how much is filler and how much is just plot threads that haven't been followed up on yet.

It had to do more with ideology. It had to be simple, not decadent, for common man etc. Ideology seeps into design - look at Art Deco or secession being prime examples of how ideology/zeitgeist and design intertwined.

Architecture wise you should look up stuff like brutalism where simplicity, cheapness and crudeness took over - as a sort of a response after WW2 as opposed to the happy 30s/40s futurist architecture with celebration of science/art/industry - full of hope for the future that just survived a horrible war.

My father's sketchbooks are filled with wondrous designs filled with "decadent" designs inspired from what he has seen during his trips to the "rotten west" or he has devised himself. But he could never use for all the stuff he was designing during the commie years (He's still quite upset about it). So the designs EXISTED it's just if you have a totalitarian system in control of industry and media these designs will be shelved and instead a certain aesthetic will be pushed that is tied to a certain ideology.

50s ideology-wise is a difficult time as the world shakes from the horrors of the war, but a certain drive away from the authoritarian governments popular in the 30s is slowly seen. Yet the public still believes in strong government, prosperity and economic growth. And still has that silly pulp sci-fi look with ray guns and sun-bombs right around the corner.

There's a ton of books about how ideologies and art intertwined. I really recommend reading them. It's a goldmine.
