Honestly felt bad for Tom for how much shit just didn't go his way when everything else would just pile on and on.

Also, that short guy that got everything he wanted, was he eventually referenced and became a parallel of Jonas Venture Jr.? It seemed way to coincidental when I first saw him and remembered the lucky midget guy.

At the time it aired I sort of enjoyed it mostly because I went to college in an area that was a loooot like that town. Aside from that I don't remember the humor itself being all that great.

I wanted to like the show, but it was way to homoerotic. a few gay jokes are ok, but this show just lathered on layers and layers of gay. whatever wasnt a gay joke was a scat joke or something equally disgustig.

same issue I had with tim and eric awesome show great job. the jokes were solid, but everything just had a repulsive, creepy, and homoerotic vide.

For every horrible thing Tim and Eric has done after, I rather liked Tom Goes to the Mayor. Nothing I'd ever go out of my way to watch, but it was clever. And, unlike everything else they ever did, grounded.

It is an aquired taste though and I will say it's very hit and miss. At its best it hits that exact middle ground between absurd and relatable that I find hilarious.

i felt the same way when i first saw it. but as i rewatched it over time, i began to hate Tom. i think you're supposed to hate him, if you want to enjoy the series. his wishy-washy, milquetoast mannerisms, his beta conflict-avoidance-while-simultaneously-judgemental worldview and his constant nitpicking about trivial bullshit like swearing while ignoring real problems like his failing marriage and his morbidly obese children, all of it is actually meant to intimate to the viewer that Tom is actually the architect of his own destruction, and indeed that of everyone else in Jefferton.

Tom deserves everything that happens to him. he deserves death, and he deserves damnation.

just a few things Tom did to his family and friends during the show:
-renamed his stepchildren at random and coerced his wife into porn in a failed attempt to grow his nonexistent business
-got addicted to cocaine and weight gain powder
-abused steroids
-crippled a child in order to win an elementary school wrestling tournament, which he entered illegally
-stole change from mall fountains
-determined his friendships based on predicted financial gains resulting from said friendships
-hit a man with his car
-intentionally lost an infant
-let one of his stepkids literally eat himself to death
-invited a homeless saxman into his house with the intention of exploiting his talents, then let the homeless guy shit on his wife's floor.
-charged $70,000 worth of porcelain bird statues to his wife's credit card
-destroyed a bird sanctuary
-lost both eyes while attempting to curry political favor by murdering captive goats
-hit another, smaller man with his car, but it was ok because that guy talked too much and had a smelly beard
-fraud. SO MUCH fraud
-stole his children's macaroni art and tried to sell it to the city council for a profit
-murdered the entire town TWICE.
