How would a Zombie arc of RWBY work?

While I had the whole damn season spoiled for me weeks ago, I finally got around to finishing it recently and...Well. I have a question. Because something in the last episode doesn't sit right with me.

I've done some googling and don't really see anything relating to this question, but for all I know it was already discussed in the past when it was all knew and relevant, and I'm just so late to the party everyone has forgotten about it.

So here's the thing.

We see Cinder hit Pyrrha in the ankle, she goes down. They have brief words. Cinder draws her bow.
At this point, Ruby lands on the roof of the tower and watches Cinder lodge an arrow through Pyrrha's torso, and then completely disintegrate her body into dust.
Right. Pretty open and shut.

What bothers me isn't Pyrrha's death scene, but the scene right after it where Ruby awakens in her room.

Ruby is the only person to know with 100% certainty that Pyrrha is dead outside of Cinder, because they were the only two that were there.
And Cinder vanished.

Now, Qrow informs Ruby that Pyrrha did, in fact, die.

How the fuck would Qrow know this if Qrow wasn't there when Pyrrha died? The only person to know that Pyrrha died
Logically, you'd think everyone just assumed Ozpin and Pyrrha were missing until proven otherwise, Ruby confirming Pyrrha's death when she wakes up.
But no. They know she was dead. Which is impossible, because Cinder didn't leave a body, and all of her ashes were carried off by the wind.

Because if this is intentional, this can mean anything from part or all of Pyrrha's death being an illusion created strictly to awaken Ruby's Satsui No Eyedo, to Qrow being in league with Cinder/salem explaining why he knows things he shouldn't know.

Am I missing any details in all of this?
Is this just a massive plot-hole due to shitty writing, or is this meant to set-up something?

Best guess I can say is Qrow figured she was dead due to her headdress being left there and no body.
If they had to wait for Ruby to wake up to get confirmation on what happened that would be even more heartbreaking for JNR, they would have been hoping that she was just missing like Ozpin only to be told she was really gone.

Well, to be honest, the only reason I thought this in the first place is because we see the following chain of events.

>Cinder shows Pyrrha
>Unsummons her bow
>Incinerates Pyrrha
>The next frame we see her in, she has her bow back out for seemingly no reason.
>She clearly had no idea Ruby was there watching, hence the surprise.
So why was she holding her bow?
Initially I took that as bad animation.
Like maybe they animated the arrow, then the cut-away to Cinder holding her bow, and then decided to go back after and do the incineration thing. Just an animator goof.

But then I noticed Qrow not making any sense in the scene afterwards so I considered it.

But I don't really think it could be Emerald of Merc.
How the hell would they get up to the top of the tower? The elevator was destroyer and I don't ever recall them having Ruby's super-speedy wall running powers or something similar.

The only other likely candidate is Ozpin. But then why they hell would he vanish? And if Pyrrha is alive, why take her with him? If Pyrrha did get shot in the chest, but the disintegration never occurred, why would he take the body?

Sounds like it's honestly a dead end composed of some animator errors that I'm reading too deeply into.
But it seems like the most likely avenue if they wanted to bring her back.

And then it could have been left open ended intentionally.

Who knows, maybe that was Monty's plan all along, and he's laughing from beyond the grave over how clever he was and trolling people.

Or again. They found her circlet and no trace of her and assumed she was dead.

But Tai said that Qrow found Ruby on the top of the tower unconscious.
Meaning that when he first spotted her, she was already out cold.
Pyrrha was long gone by that point.

At the end of the day, it comes down to one of three possibilities.

1) Monty wanted Pyrrha to be the sacrifice that triggers Ruby's power. Monty didn't however anticipate the character's popularity and attachment, nor how people would react to a wasted death when there was still plenty of use for her as a character. This is not an oversight he can fix in death, and that would need to fall on Miles and Kerry.
>She may or may not return. Depends on how it fits into the plot going further.

2) Monty intended to ruse us the entire time and get everyone upset over a popular character's needless death and the entire execution didn't even happen, but was all an illusion set up to fuck with Ruby and get her eyes to activate by a silent onlooker. Everything, from the VA saying her character is dead (Creators and actors have been doing this shit for decades) to reports saying Monty planned her death before the series even began was all according to keikaku, which would make her return that much more shocking.

3) It was just shitty writing. She's dead, Captain. It served no purpose and they wasted a character without expanding all of her potential story threads. Realistically, if they wanted her to die, it should have been another three volumes down the line after we learned more about her and Arkos was developed more. Then the death would have had more impact instead of just feeling needlessly pointless.

At this point, I'm inclined to believe each one of them is equally valid until we get to the season 4 finale.

Pyrrha didn't know the exact specifics of Cinder's powers. Pyrrha was an exceptionally talented fighter with a Semblance tailored to be unfairly effective against human opponents, so it isn't unreasonable to think that she might have a chance at getting Cinder after Ozpin had worn her down.
And even then, if winning turned out to be unfeasible (which it did), Pyrrha bought time for Qrow, Glynda, Ironwood or anyone of importance to show up and deal with Cinder before she gets out of control.
In the end it was Ruby and her bullshit eyes which ended up saving the day, but Pyrrha's plan still worked.

True, but it was the first 'Major' character death in the series.
That sets a worrisome precedent for future characters and yes, even existing main characters.

Especially when they had just set up the potential for a whole ton of character growth in the span of an hour for Pyrrha.

When you're trying to write tragedy, there's more ways to do it than just hopping onto the death train. And there's a lot of ways to prepare a character FOR death that not only makes the death more satisfying for the audience, but gives you most most bang for your buck with that character.

You know, if Pyrrha had lived from the fight, say she was Ruby Ex Machina'd, I'd actually feel more sorry for her. I mean, in that case, she failed the school, is basically out from being a Huntress, let alone walking again, and lost her chance at being the Maiden. Seeing that aftermath hit Pyrrha would have made her a much deeper character. Like, that's why Yang, while I always liked her, became so much more when she lost her arm. She has to look at the consequences of her actions every day. Think back to her rash decisions and (ideally) overcome them, whilst they'd always be a lingering obstacle.

The thing about Pyrrha is that most of her conflicts were duller than dull and her character tended to revolve around the D'arc. She had 0 motivation and 0 goal til volume 2, and that was just "I'm fucking lonely" and we didn't have her reason for becoming a huntress til volume 3. Meanwhile her object of affection had full motivation and goal in volume 1.

The thing about Potential is that almost everything has it. In fact the less there is to something, the more potential it has. It's often brought up as a defense when it comes to the setting and writing of RWBY. "Sure, it's generic and undeveloped; but it has so much potential"

Sure, Pyrrha had potential, just like most every other character in the show. It's why people tend to have a penchan for characters with barely anything to them like CFVY or Neo, because the possibilities are endless. Potential doesn't mean jack shit when it comes to intent, and as far as we can tell the intent of Pyrrha was 2 volumes of romantic interest before being a sacrificial lamb so they could raise the stakes without killing anyone important.

I'm just saying that even for a character I thought was boring and disliked, I'd appreciate some sort of development.

"I didn't like the character" isn't a valid argument for being okay with the character being dumped for stupid bullshit plot device reasons.
I mean, are you going to make that same argument when it's a character you do like? "I love this character and I hope they go away forever via some contrived plot device that helps the protagonist grow and little else". Nah, probably not.

It's not about the character being gone, not totally. It's about the writing being schlocky garbage.

The simple fact that you found her dull and boring only reinforces my point that they did a piss poor job handling her all around. It's frustrating because the very moment she gets some build-up? Splat. Dead. She's occupying an urn.
Had that build up been consistent over all three volumes, her death would have been more satisfying and felt less shitty and pointless.

You don't need to start resurrecting characters from the dead to make death meaningless like people in these threads keep suggestion.
You just need to kill off a bunch of under-developed characters, and you achieve the exact same effect.
Pyrrha is just the first of many to come, no doubt about it.
And eventually this shit is going to start feeling like Attack on Titan. Calling it now.

I mean, seriously, all those people saying "Oh Pyrrha nees to come back as shems wasted potential and you could still do shit with her." Well, so are the other characters that don't have anything like Ren.

It's even more laughable when they bring up how it'd be good writing when, on RWBY, you should always assume bad ones.

Look at Kamina from TTGL. Was he developed as a character? Not really. They gave him some depth sure but besides that one could argue he's undeveloped. Yet his death and leaving him dead made the show great because they used this death wisely and to build up Simon.

Pyrrha is obviously not Kamina and she wishes she'd have the same depth and character he'd have but that doesn't mean her seath can't be used well.

We already know how Hunters get missions. When they graduate, they can take jobs at Mission Boards in any kingdom, not just the ones they graduated from. Whether they do this in their old teams or solo is up to them.

That's what WoR is for. The fact that they had to make the 1st season three volumes should show how badly thought out things were.

For an autistic american anime, the writing is watchable.

What we got was a jumbled up prologue.

This shit is supposed to go for 20 seasons or some shit. Relatively speaking, it's pretty fine if they do all that later on.

I do expect the show to go to full shit by volume 8. Volume 4 will be the big cinched though as now they lost their
two best animators and is when the actual story should start kicking in.

LRR started her hourney by leaving her house. Expect Salem to be Ruby's grandma or something who was consumed by the true darkness/wolf demon.
