as villains for the part focusing on the Midnight crew, they were fine, we got a summary of their abilities and saw them being used, while getting some comic relief, but now not only are they mostly irrelevant compared to the other events taking place, they're also too many and with way too many different abilities to be featured fully and in relevant fashion in the flash. making them have a fight now only hurts them because they're pretty much only there so Jake can have something to do.

i'd honestly rather have Jake play some minor role in another fight than have a portion of the flash dedicated to him fooling around with the felt.

the idea of trolls and the trolls themselves having a part in the story wasn't such a bad concept to begin with, but i think a whole act focused on them dragged things on too much, especially since only a handful of them were actually relevant in the long term, excluding Gamzee and Hussie's stupid "lol he's immortal and also super essential and evil" bullshit. it also took the attention away from the main kid's adventure which at that point was much more interesting than "starting again" for a bunch of new characters.

It changed, but it's not the fault of tumblr. I think the (actual, not just 'wah too many gays') problems with Homestuck are just the result of it being made up as it went along, and it being written over 7 years. Hussie is a different sort of writer to what he was in 2009.
