Brad, you're one weird motherfucker
What did she mean by this?
>>81346558
You of all people ought to know the answer to this.
>>81346481
I admire BKEW's tenacity, I really do. It just doesn't justify the mania and selection bias. Guy is so rolled up in his own intensity he can't see he's just looking for Jesus in toast.
I have my own theories about Classpect, but I don't pretend they're more than just me filling in gaps how I'd fill them were I Hussie.
Sometime last thread someone mentioned Jade only did what Hussie's writing wanted her to do and it got me thinking.
It's too weird to think all these characters are just constructs of Hussie's imagination. Everything Jade or Karkat, or Vriska or whoever has ever done is just what Hussie feels like making them do.
Here we talk almost as if there is some 'true Jade' (or anyone) that's untainted by Hussie's writing, but that's just kind of dumb if you think about it.
Although maybe that is how Hussie feels, given that Davepeta exposition. The 'greater Jade' sounds like it's a meta concept of the audience's idea of Jade, although whether this just means other things we've seen her do in canon (pre retcon, for example) or actually being the 'true Jade' I mentioned earlier, I don't know.
>>81346158
wait, what
>>81346220
What happened to Rachel? Did she and Andrew break up?
>>81346481
Yeah, wasn't there some bullshit about Tavros turning evil and capturing a Green Sun powered Vriska to use as his Tinkerbell or some shit?
>>81346158
Where?
>>81346697
It's more a comment on writing consistency than anything else. If the audience (however inclusive or exclusive you employ that term) feels that the story establish facts and rules set At about character t, and then later on events violate that set, it begins to feel like the author isn't being true to . . . well, his past self, or the work of his past self. It feels like the author didn't plan well or anticipate his own future state in writing. Which for a comic like Homestuck is an even bigger deal than usual.
in soviet russia, he doesn't need HER

and most of the 'tavros turning evil' bullshit theories, in general
they're fun to think about and would be a pretty refreshing use of his character
(also there's some appeal to vriska getting beaten in a humiliating way and reduced to a pet or familiar, to be honest. tavros doing so himself plays right into my thing for role reversal, personally.)
but in the end I'll admit to having shit taste and these being ridiculous and unlikely.

Like, I usually assume a rough patch of skill in which the creator needs to get into the swing of writing and drawing it but it was taking a while from the abominably bad start so I skipped to a random page and it was a bunch of stupid bullshit still with marginally better art and I thought "oh, well, maybe it was still building up" but the page was from two goddamn months ago, what possible appeal could this comic have
I just want to read another good webcomic but they're all so terrible and no one seems to have enough taste to direct me toward anything decent, it's disheartening

He has approximately four good theories:
Dave dying, the fate of Calliope, Jake and Jane getting possessed, and Vriska doing something with the Green Sun.
He cites pretty good evidence for those based on the actual text. Everything else is probably overthinking it.
>>81348237
If I know anything about this story it's that fuckups are essential to victory.
>>81347781
The chief problem with BKEW's theories is that they are largely unfalsifiable. They're practically tangential with the substance of the comic. That said, if any of his more concrete stuff did come true I would eat a bit of hat.

It was always really obvious that was going to happen, once ARquiusprite was created. Everyone spat on the theory because it's just a shitty theory that turned out to be a shitty plot twist, and simply because it was a BKEW theory.

When I asked for the possibility that the joke was JUST A JOKE that happened to fit in a little bit later, he vehemently asserted that everything in Homestuck is laid out like fucking iron and obviously Hussie's random horse comedy must have been him planning that shitty twist all along.

Why is it that Jade, Karkat, and Dave are the ones who get butchered the most
>>81351860
Well, this actually makes sense. Trolls race and culture was specifically created to pass game, and this continued with their lands, they all were catering to them.
>>81352442
Hussie briefly touched upon the Mage class the last time he was at the Toronto con. He didn't say much, just that the verb associated with Mage is "foster." I'm looking for corroboration but can't seem to find any.

I hope Lord English uses his death blast and kills all the ghosts, thus ruining Vriska's plan.
The fact that she even said it out loud means it's bound to go shit anyways. I can't fucking wait.
I don't see how any of the ghosts have a chance.
>post yfw Maid Equius dies

Wasn't that the gist of the plan? Ghost army dies horribly to give Vriska time to come closer and activate weapon.

I've tried to find common themes in Lands relating to Class and Aspect with the A2 trolls and B1 kids. B2 kids have their own unique void session nobles theme going on, and Hussie got lazy and seems to have just given the A1 trolls the same Lands and the A2s.
Of course in the end it's all up to Hussie's whims.

Best fit explanation from my end is that
- Mages are active to Seer's passive, and
- While Seers are pragmatic-to-cynical about their aspect and tend to exploit it for goals, Mages are consummate about it (ie Sollux is super moody and dour, Meulin lives to ship).
In other words, Mages are scholars for the sake of it while Seers are pragmatic or applied learners. If this >>81352669 is true, then you could say Mages foster their aspect out of an innate love or appreciation for it. We'll see how it goes.

so maybe either or both? but pretty uncomfortable either way. getting squished into a wall is super uncomfortable.
this is the only way vriska can be authentically represented.
Post troll body headcanons:
Araara is chubby enough to be non-threatening and super comfy/contrasts with stick-thin sollux.
Tavros probably has unreasonably strong arms, average height. surprisingly solid.
Sollux is stick thin. like bordering on malnourished stick thin. probably has a nice ass for some reason.
Karkat is just maybe an inch or two shorter than average. everybody notices. on the skinny side.
Nep is on the shorter side. also ripped, though discretely so. not curvy.
Terezi looks like somebody tipped a bunch of matchsticks out on a table. skinny and sharp. barely taller than Karkat.
Kanaya is tall. curvy as they say in all the right places. think model.
Vriska slouches. probably does the whole anime boob thing with anybody she's more well endowed than (40% of female trolls?). flarp kept her in shape but since then she's really let herself go.
Equius is toned but not ripped. his STRENGTH means that he can't really safely exercise, so he doesn't look as STRONG as he probably would like.
Gamzee is tall and lean, but slouches. murder mode gamzee just kinda unfolds and stands up straight and moves faster and punches harder than physics says he should be able to.
Eri worries about his weight. cape hides plush rump

>What's good about it
the character's and their interactions are charming in that ultimately they are still just kids dealing with this no matter how old they act or what powers they have.
>>81360040
The plot slowly grows in the background until erupting out around page 100. That's all I want to say without spoiling it for you. The main draw is the character interactions. Most of them are foulmouthed in fun ways, everyone is a distinct character that you come to know and love. If you don't like it by comic 100, then it isn't for you

You should give it a shot and read past comic 100, that's when shit really hits the fan and everything starts getting different. It's ok if you don't like it because not everyone is supposed to like the same thing, but honestly I can't see why people would consider it a bad comic, except of course the shitty art that get's pretty good a lot of times and then goes back to be extremely shitty.
is it bad if i actually enjoyed act 1

Yeah, I was giving >>81360112 a try just to see if maybe there's a background plot to it that's any good but I'm about 30 pages in and I seriously can't keep going knowing that the dialogue never gets any better, this is pure garbage and I have no idea how any of you read this and went "yeah this is fun and enjoyable"
>>81360409
Aside from liberal use of shock humor it's trite as fuck. It's every shitty webcomic I've ever read and then it has 12 year olds talking about shit like anal fisting and molesting lunch ladies for no fucking reason and this is what I have to slog through to get to some sort of "plot" which seems to involve both cyborgs and medusas, but I'm sure that girl missing an eye is some sort of beloved side character that's supposed to be the main appeal but her whole personality will sum up to "she's so wacky!! she talks about hardcore sex/drugs but looks like an adorable little girl and this is true comedy"

I'm the one that's been bitching about it the entire time and from flipping around I'll admit sometimes a joke lands, but it seems like the entire thing is jokes (mostly lazy sex ones that are clearly leaning on shock value) and 99% of them are just painfully bad and the jokes that do land would have been better if there was any contrast with the rest of it. It's like someone who can't play guitar just whaling on one and sometimes they hit a chord but it's just not worth the headache of the rest.

>>81361223
My understanding of it has always been that the comedy is rooted in the absurdity. If you can't move past that then it almost assuredly isn't something you'll enjoy, which is fine, everyone's tastes are different and it's not trying to reach a particularly large market of readers.
I think people take issue with the way you criticize it more than the idea that you don't like it.
>>81361531
I'm aware, it's just offensively bad to me and I particularly hate the idea of other Homestuck fans moving on to such a shit-tier comic. Like, in theory I understand just letting people like what they like, but this just hurts.
It doesn't help that I'm really eager for something new to read to fill the void and it was especially disappointing that this didn't pan out. I know there has to be some good webcomics out there, but I just can't seem to find one.
>>81361704

>>81361704

>>81361704
You're asking too much. There is no webcomic out there that can fill the void Homestuck left. It sure as shit isn't It Hurts, and you never should have thought it could be anything like that. Homestuck fans aren't "moving on" to it, they're just reading it.

>>81361734
I tried that one a while ago when the sad cat MC was a waifu/meme on HSG. It was... alright. As far as fanadventures go I preferred Waterworks.
>>81361739
I actually finished up the Watch series from Discworld a couple months ago, which is another sad void to fill. I need to get started on the Witches series but I can't imagine liking it more than the Watch (especially since my favorite characters from it probably won't show up in the other series since they aren't Vimes or Vetinari, delightful as they both are).
In any case, I just like to know there are good, creative webcomics out there. It's sad to think there aren't.
>>81361763
I know I won't find another Homestuck, but is it too much to ask for something at all tolerable, with decent characters and/or a well-planned story? All I have right now is Cucumber Quest which is fine but I really only like for one character. Maybe I could give Ava's Demon another try but none of the characters really grabbed me.
>>81361821

WELCOME TO THE NEW AGE
>>81361704
Well I fear it may be a case of high expectations muddying the water here, given the complete difference in scope of the two webcomics. It Hurts! really is a niche, even in the webcomic world given the over the top crass humor. You wouldn't read it as a replacement to such an ambitious story as Homestuck, it's just another little interesting story to check up on every once in a while.
Having caught up to date, I usually read new updates on /co/ and see if there's any interesting posts in the associated thread, nothing fancy like sitting in a general discussing the intimacies of the story and whatnot. I don't think anyone has really had that mindset of replacing Homestuck with It Hurts!, they're just not comparable in that manner.
But I can see where you're coming from, it sucks to be recommended something and not enjoy it when people are saying you should. However, I think it's better to discuss it with that frame of mind, so not saying it's just flat out bad, but saying you didn't enjoy it for X reasons and going into detail. People will be more receptive to discuss or possibly offer more constructive points, given that it's a legitimate criticism over a perceived attack.

Vetinari shows up in a lot of the other discworld books, actually. The ones dealing with the city, anyway, you probably won't find him in the witch books much. I'd read the standalones or the Death ones next, they're great.
>>81361866
The Watch is the best, but Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg are both god tier.
Trust me, even at his worst, Pratchett is great.
>>81361868

Yeah, I figured he would. I've read a bit of the Death series, kind of skipped around based on what was at the library (Mort, Hogfather, and Reaper Man). It's great, and I do intend to continue with it.
>>81361907
Very true. I'm sure I'll love it, I'll just miss characters like Angua and Cheery and Detritus who I'm pretty sure aren't going to play major roles in the rest. I guess I could reread them...

Well I can't hold it against you, but going into new series with negative expectations seem like a poor way to search for new stories to fill the void, especially with a medium like webcomics where it's usually a small production team behind the comic itself.
As for having fans be mad at you, I think most realise its shortcomings and won't jump too readily on bait. If you really want to start a shit fest every so often, then I have a magic word for youDavekat.

>>81361866
They're all good. The Watch is definitely the best series, but Death and Rincewind are pretty damn close.
Rincewind series is great because it's basically a tour to all the unusual places of the Discworld, such as The Counterweight Continent, XXXX, and Hell, and gives more understanding of the Gods, since Fate and The Lady use Rincewind as basically a game piece in tactical sparring matches.
You also get to deal with the Wizards more, which is great because Ridcully, the Bursar, and the Dean are some of the best characters he has.
>>81362249
Oh I was just going off of what you wrote in >>81361997 so I couldn't knowingly say that. Given the number of jokes over the course of the comic there's likely to be a good number of cherry-picked jokes that land on arrival without having full context, so I imagine that likely skewed expectations going in to it.
Personally I had to force myself to sit through the first 50-60 pages, under the assurances of other readers having seen select images and jokes from it. By that point the characters had grown on me sufficiently to warrant enough interest to see what happens to them when the comedy hit a rough patch. If that doesn't happen for you, or the average comedy doesn't appeal then I think it's one to shelve for now, maybe revisit it later when you're feeling especially wanting for another series.
>>81362306
Ooh, I didn't know that about Rincewind. The Colour of Magic was a bit hard to get through so I didn't really look into the rest. Thanks for the recommendation!
>>81362343

CoM is the earliest one, it's around Mort where things really find their footing.
Speaking of which did you know Disney was going to do an adaption of Mort?
There's some stuff from when it was in very-early preproduction before being shelved.
>>81362402
Colour of Magic was the series trying to find itself. Pratchett was racing across the Discworld showing off the new world he created, giving it a much more hectic pace.
Interesting Times and The Last Continent focus mostly on The Counterweight Continent and XXXX respectively.

>>81362455
Yeah, I know it was the first and figured that was why it was so rough, it just didn't draw me in for the characters so I bounced back to the Watch (read Guards! Guards! just before it) and stuck with that until I finished it.
>>81362221
Gentle-domme?

>>81362493
Yeah the early stuff is difficult, but none of them are bad. Every single one is worth reading, even if Pratchett's early death left one or two minor plot threads dangling, though with obvious implications.
Moist Von Lipwig stuff is good too. Especially Going Postal. Going Postal is up there with Night Watch for awesome.
>>81360849
no, it's ipgd
>>81362517
This is the only one I have and it's the clear best.
>>81362402
Yeah that's understandable, whilst I'm more willing than most to give a series a bit of extra time to draw me in, most people have a clear understanding of when they flat out won't enjoy something. It seems you came that realization early on with It Hurts! which is can understand fully. For me at least it usually hinges on if the characters are endearing, if they aren't it's a cut and dry decision to drop it.
Hopefully you can find something that is more fitting after Homestuck is over. I still can't quite wrap my head around the idea it'll be over; there's so much more I wish we'd seen. Although a conclusive format is likely for the best, I do feel there's some characters and storylines that won't get their due when it's all over. Still, at least there are other forms of media to explore when it's over.

Yeah, through all the criticism you could justifiably level at Homestruck, the characters have always seemed vivid and unique, even when their contributions are at a low point. It's a shame there wasn't a clearer setup of main, secondary and supporting cast as it likely could have distributed character development much more constructively over the long term to keep the interest in the majority of the characters high. Still, hiatuses are the big bad in that issue so it's hard to conclusively state that it would help.
