Gonna try to convert a friend into a Valiantfag like myself. I have extra copies of the first trades of X-O Manowar, Harbinger, Archer and Armstrong, Rai, and The Valiant that I'm gonna give him for free. Sounds like a good plan to me. I just wish I had some Bloodshot to give him as well.

Picked up the Speed Racer boxset and Hideshi Hino artbook at Half Price Books today. The artbook has a few translated comics in it as well. Greys was neat, but far from my favorite Schrauwen work. Each page was just two stacked panels which I thought was kind of boring after seeing his layouts in Arsene Schrauwen.

Stop buying trades and invest in the hardcovers, they're more expensive so you'll be less inclined to splurge all your money like on a bunch of shit trades. I haven't bought any crazy amounts of trades in forever now cause of it and I'm happier.

I'm looking to get the original conflicts with Thanos, but fucking hell Marvel, how they're traded is a bitch.

Avenger's vs Thanos has his original stuff, most of his Captain Marvel stuff, and chunks of the Warlock story he was in. But the Starlin Warlock trade has those same chunks and the rest of the fight against the Magus you would clearly know about from the Avengers vs Thanos trade. So great. A lot of duplicate material. The Death of Captain Marvel trade has the rest.

It sort of sucks, I already have most of this in one form or another, but this seems like a SLIGHTLY neater way to read it. And it's still a bit shit.
>>

>>
>>81324138

>>
>>81324200

Exactly. And that's the infamous Thanos Copter. I need the Thanos Copter.

That Avengers vs Thanos trade is essentially the first two thirds of the Life and Death of Captain Marvel with a few extra issues, the Life section really, the battle he fought. And a shitty aborted collection of Starlin's Warlock.
>>

>>81323389
I've been hesitant to hop onboard the Vampirella archives. They seemed a little pricey but those hardcovers look nice. I take it you're pleased with them?
>>
>>81324218
My manga collection has includes the entirety of Dragon Ball, all the One Piece that's come out so far where I live (up to volume 77), Planetes, Otoyomegatari, Black Lagoon, 9 volumes of Vagabond, a hardcover Uzumaki, All You Need is Kill, most of Emma, Kaoru Mori's Everything and Something, the first two volumes of Gundam Origin all of Mirai Nikki, and a bunch of miscellaneous stuff I picked up at the grocery store on a whim.
It's not too shabby, but it's not too good either.
>>
>>81324228

Interesting.

While that doesn't look bad, I have a big thing about seeing a comic in it's original intended form. He inked that for black and white, I want to read it in black and white. You draw different for color or black and white, and it can really show when you have a clue what to look for.

Showcases and Essentials are my bane.

I'm apparently the only nutter in these threads who buys the Marvel Masterworks, so I've got a lot of Starlin's Thanos stuff.

For the Marvel Masterworks, I've got the five released Captain Marvel volumes, both Warlock volumes, both Iron Fist volumes, the Luke Cage one (limited edition, because the price was the same and why not?), The Champions (limited edition for literally the same reason), and the first volume of Ms. Marvel, which was also limited edition, but weirdly enough I have THAT one because it was cheaper than the others.
Between the the second Warlock Masterwork, one of the Captain Marvel masterworks, and the "Life and Death of Captain Marvel" book I own, I have a lot of Starlin Thanos.

Shit man, I'm trying to collect this Thanos stuff in paperback, but I'm right there with you on the Masterworks.

I have the entire Lee/Kirby FF run in paperback,. In hardcover I have both Inhumans trades, all three Nick Fury Agents of Shields (Actually I may be missing one still...) and both Warlocks. In the nice Premiere format I have the old GotG stuff too, and I think a few others.

My copy of Life and Death of Captain Marvel is that paperback that combined both that spiked in value for a hot minute a few years back.
>>
>>81324446

They are on really nice paperstock with a decent enough amount of extras, such as a few words on the material. Granted, I don't recommend the format for long runs. I can't imagine being a person who owns 50 of those hardcovers or such, but for short things? They're neat.

>>81324446
Well for starters, it's nice to actually have old comics (well, they're older than ME), especially for stuff that it's rather difficult to find scans for.
Also the introductions at the start typically have interesting stories.

For instance, did you know that when KSD (writer of the last Carol run) met Gerry Conway (creator of the Punisher, killer of Gwen Stacy, and also first writer of the original Ms. Marvel, but nobody ever seems to give him credit for this), she got her picture taken with him and shook his hand?

I keep seeing that damn Oz omnibus on so many shelves, is it any good? I enjoyed the movie when I was a kid and I really like Skottie Young's art and re imaginings of children books. I still need to pick up the second Fairy Quest series by Paul Jenkins and Humberto Ramos.
>>
>>81325110
Also forgot to ask how the binding is on the Oz omnibus. I don't want to buy an omnibus if it has shit binding.

In Finland you can find comics in any kiosk, grocery store or Gas station.

Used to be Euro-comics mostly, nowadays there is more Manga.

Although thankfully Nordic publishers are getting their shit together with Euro translations.

Now that I'm thinking about that, I imagine they have to be.

Please tell me devil's fruit was translated into
"pirunhedelmä"
>>
>>81326884
Pirunmarja, but that's not what I was referring to. The regional dialects are priceless. Especially Sakazuki, who speaks like he's from Savo.
>>
>>81326904
Oh I see, I'm a Hurri, so I'm pretty much deaf and completely ignorant when it comes to Finnish dialects.

But I'm guessing it has the same effect as having someone speak in a Swedish -Ostrobothnian dialect would.
>>
>>81327008
The difference between the written language and the dialect is best summarized with a classic example.
In English, the phrase is "sweet rolls atop the fridge".
In written Finnish, it's "kaalikääryleitä jääkaapin päällä".
In the Savo dialect, it's "kualkiäryleitä jiäkuapin piällä".
It's not a very intimidating way of speaking and that's why it's so funny coming out of this particular character's mouth.

Spectacular #27 begins in the middle of the story and #28 ends on a cliffhanger. Also Miller only drew them, he didn't write them. They're totally unnecessary and not that fun to read.

Andre the Giant is a great minimalist very quiet biography with a lot of actual emotion, I highly recommend it

King City is just some really fun experiments in cartooning, it's pretty cheap so it's definitely worth it for the page count but don't expect a conventional plot, more just a bunch of impressive spreads and fun visual gags

BPRD Plague of Frogs V1 (although personally i'd start with the first 6 hellboy trades, totally up to individual taste though)

DD Yellow and the Bendis run are both good as well but you should read Miller first, if possible his whole run, then move on to the more recent stuff
>>
>>81380979

Stor-Folios (google it)
Get ultra-pro comic inserts for 3 ring binders and customize at will (bit ghetto but its what im doing)
Custom binding which costs a pretty penny and involves shipping all the floppies off to be bound.

those are the three options i can think of off the top of my head
>>
>>81381716
The first 6 Hellboys are the Mignola run, right? I'll start off with this since it's good and chunky reading, but I'm always looking to expand the

...so...Munoz DID'NT work on this? Only Bats I've seen him do was the short strip in Batman B & W volume 2 (?).

>>
>>81382487

Everything hellboy/bprd/etc is at the very least overseen by Mignola, Hellboy itself is all Mignola

you would be just fine starting with Plague of Frogs, but Bprd started a while after hellboy so personally i found reading the first few before starting to be better, i kinda already knew the world at that point.

also the first HB book isnt written by Mignola for I'm sure a bunch of reasons, but its kinda essential regardless.

Library editions are good bang or the buck and collect 2 trades each

Where do you guys buy your comics, trades, etc? Barnes and Noble has a pretty good selection but the closest one is a bit of a drive away.
There's a local comics/game store but their hours are weird as shit and I'm 90% sure they're a MTG meeting ground and I'm afraid of fedoralords

>>
>>81383693

pretty much yep, but the book, if you dont make it too wild and crazy looking since you have options, still has a decent retail value... its not the kind of thing you do with books that are worth a decent amount, its the kind of thing you do with a run of comics that havent been collected well or at all because theres no other option

they do turn out nice though.

I never bothered to save the link to their site maybe someone else can link it, i dont even remember the name anymore or i'd google it.
>>
>>81384752
I got most of mine at B&N stores since I have 5 of them within driving distance or online since I get free shipping and better discounts with membership/rewards and Half Price Books can be a gold mine. We also have a local comics shop that is a MTG stomping ground, everything there is retail so I never bother with it. B&N recently had a buy 2 get a 3rd free so I stocked up when that was going on.

Really neat. And there goes some more money.

Is it stuck at the end of the trade, or are the stories spread in logical places? That Batman/Superman fight where they first meet, and Wonder Woman breaks it up was the best fight between them I've ever read, and a good rough idea for what BvS could have been.

Okay. Okay fuck. Can I take a moment to bitch about how these damned companies trade things? I'm interested in getting all of the trades of Warlock, Thanos, Infinity, Starlin stuff I can. Most of it was good, the rest will keep me occupied, and complete the shelf. I think this thread of all can understand completing the shelf. But look at this bullshit. LOOK AT IT:

Warlock and the Infinity Watch 1-6: Infinity Gauntlet Aftermath
Warlock and the Infinity Watch 7-10 Infinity War
Warlock and the Infinity Watch 11-17 Infinity War Aftermath
Warlock and the Infinity Watch 18-19 Infinity Crusade 1
Warlock and the Infinity Watch 20-22 Infinity Crusade 2
Warlock and the Infinity Watch 23-25 Thor Blood and Thunder

So essentially if you go full Infinity, you don't even need the first Infinity Watch trade at all. Literally all of the material is in other trades. With other tie in issues you don't get in other places.

His original Warlock run is kind of annoying too. Most of it is in the Avengers vs Thanos trade. But there are a few missing issues. Just a few. Enough to make the fight against the Magus not have a proper beginning or end. So you have to buy the Jim Starlin's Warlock trade too.

So I end up with a ton of duplicate issues of the original Warlock. And a trade that says volume 2 when I don't even have volume 1. My god damned autism is triggered.

>But there are a few missing issues. Just a few
What? No Avengers vs Thanos should only have 3 Warlock issues and the Walock trade should have all 7 plus the previous Strange Tales stuff
>>
>>81389886
It's all at the end, I think
>>
>>81393281

That's exactly what I'm talking about. The Avengers vs Thanos trade does have most of the run. At least half. So it's pretty annoying that to get the full story you have to buy another trade. No matter what to get the original Thanos era, fighting against Marvel, then Warlock, then Marvel's Death, you still need three trades.
>>
>>81393363

Moderately disappointing, but expected. It would have been nice to read their first encounter in its proper place.
>>
>>81393474
You also need a separate trade for the Death of Captain Marvel which has Starlin's last issue on the title plus the graphic novel

I was lucky and managed to find a copy of The Life and Death of Captain Marvel so between that and the Warlock trade I'm set for his 70's Marvel cosmic work
>>
>>81393661

I actually do have that myself. Thing is, the Avengers vs Thanos trade has a few missing issues, such as the Daredevil ones. They're utterly inconsequential, I know. But they have the Thanos Copter. I need Thanos Copter in my life.

So you buy the AvT trade, you end up needing the new Death of Captain Marvel trade, and then you might as well get the Starlin Warlock trade. Fuck, ya know?

That Starlin Warlock trade is a bit funny too. It's just the Masterwork without that label.

I know you're getting ragged on because of your taste (to be fair, I'm not a fan of it either). But I like the way it looks aesthetically. One thing I'd do is make em more uniform, you got some sealed, some placed in frames, and some bagged from what it looks like. I'd recommend picking one method and sticking to it. It'd look cleaner.

I'm wanting to do something similar with some of my favorite floppies. I got a Sandman and Miacleman #1 framed already. I was thinking about getting some other good looking covers. Probably a Hellboy, maybe a DD from Miller's run. I was wanting to try to get at least 6 floppies spaced out from each other.

Speaking of Andre, I liked that they had such a legacy thing going on in WrestleMania today. Stardust combined his uniform with Dusty's polka dotted one, Charlotte wore a full robe made from one of Ric's old ones during her entrance, and Andre was given a memorial Battle Royale match (with motherfucking Shaq busting some Shaq-Fu in the ring).
