Homestuck defies INITIAL expectations but at the very least attempts to do so in a way that is still consistent with the ideas it sets up. Sometimes it fails in doing so but you can see that the attempt is made, even if it is in some weak lamesauce meta way.

For example, by making a point of defying an expectation of everyone being involved in a romance, by keeping Jade alone, using the pre-established notion of Space being associated with loneliness (which a lot of people theorized even before it became official in-comic).

I lost interest in HS shortly after John got his retcon powers, and have no interest in picking it back up, but I have a question that's been bugging me.

Was it ever shown what Gamzee did to the trolls' black king that fucked him up so bad? I liked a lot of the mystery surrounding Gamzee, but I don't think the full extent of his abilities were ever shown.

Aradia's entire purpose is to be neutral now and govern everything. We didn't get to see the endless amount of side stories of her saving every split-timeline dead person ever. Nothing about it has been accepted as canon, fan works do not affect canon unless canon borrows from them.

Karkat did say sickles plural in the recent update though, and he's never used more than one at a time in the comic before, while he dual wields in the fan animation. So that's something that may have been borrowed from there. Also he does a shitty anime run in it, and then did an even shittier anime run in Game Over.

The majority of PXS stories are "potentially canon", because they are set in timeframes where they'd be possible, but ultimately would have no bearing on the story itself.

Likewise, Joey, Jude, their mother and the game's trolls existing is inserted into a similar blind spot that has no bearing on the plot, although they ultimately might be hinted at at the end of HS. It feels like they are OCs because that's usually how those are inserted by fans into their fanfiction into an established or running story. In this case however it is the author of the main story doing that. Not the best way to do things because it highlights how HS is generally not written by thinking ahead too much, but that's how HS and Hussie have been working for 7 years now.
