If short stories count, Dreams in the Witchhouse by Lovecraft.

Too slow for most people to enjoy it. In animated form it would either stay true to the original and adapt a sort of 80s Heavy Metal or Don Bluth aesthetic, or adapt a more modern animation style and be a humor-centric take on it. I don't think it would be successful either way, it just wouldn't work as a film or animation. It's one of those stories that only works in the medium its in.
