they're only channel on TV that pulls this stunt with taped programming.

As a fan of Archer, I loved Moonbeam City, it was a lovely refuge in audacity that Archer could never hope to reach, and it did it coated in a sparkly, neon glowing ooze of style. I'm sad to see it go.

I also secretly hope that the guys at Archer really liked the show, and we get an episode or two with the cast like with Murphy.

The art was beautiful on this show. It's what kept me coming back. Some of the episodes were truly brilliant in their comedy. Some were pretty weak and little too try hard.

Sadly, they couldn't carry the South Park audience and that's all CC cares about. While not likely at all, maybe FX could pick it up.

Nope. Though the premise is now that it's 30 years after the final episode in which everyone but Steve and that redneck side character got killed by a Bovine Alien race, with Steve fighting in a post-apocalyptic wasteland to try and save what's left of humanity.

So y'know, I'll give them this much, it at least sounds a bit more interesting than a show about park rangers who suck at their jobs and have an edgy Daniel Tosh bear cub in their midst.

>>
>>81278957
Bare in mind, the comic isn't just a continuation, but a water tester that could potentially see it revived as a show.
>>
Moonbeam would have benefited from being more serious. Started watching because I saw some reaction images and thought the style was cool. The voice acting and tryhard wackiness kinda ruined it.
>>
>>81278491
Well if it's just Steve and whatshisname then that's even shittier.
>>
>>81279327
It did establish itself as really silly and somewhat childish right from the get-go. It's one thing to have a manchild protagonist, but don't literally put him in a Nap Nook.

Still though, the atmosphere was done amazingly.
>>
>>81279675
When the rival character is pissing and shitting himself in every episode it's a wee bit much.
>>
>>81279621
>whatshisname

Looked it up because I was struggling to remember. It's Bobby Possumcods.

The interview with the creators says it focuses on a guy named "Future Steve", which would imply that there's probably gonna be some time travel stuff or flashbacks at some point to incorporate the other characters.
>>
>>81276786

>>
>>81276954
>Sadly, they couldn't carry the South Park audience and that's all CC cares about. While not likely at all, maybe FX could pick it up.

You know this show made me realize something: that Comedy Central's audience demographic is actually a bit different than Adult Swim's. I bring up Adult Swim because I and probably others think this show would have done better had it aired on that network instead of Comedy Central.

On the surface, both Comedy Central and Adult Swim appear to cater to the same audiences. Basically young people ranging from teens to 20 somethings, some of which may smoke pot. Now here's the differences. For one, as implied by the network's name, the Comedy Central audience wants comedy. Which makes perfect sense. Comedy Central airs comedy content so of course they would want and expect that. However, they don't really seem to take other elements of a show into account. For example, when I was watching Moonbeam City I wasn't just coming for the jokes. I was also coming for the characters, the crazy plots, the absurd yet also interesting setting of the show, and the beautiful artwork. Sure it may not have been the funniest show but that didn't matter because there were all those other elements that made the show entertaining for me. Hell, I probably came more for those elements than I came for the comedy.

However that view that I had of the show didn't really seemed to be shared by many, judging by internet comments. A lot of people seemed to only take one aspect of the show into consideration: the quality of its comedy. Which I'll admit, even as a person who loved the show, was not it's strongest asset. The jokes weren't always up to snuff and the humor also seemed to be a bit "juvenile" at times and not in a good way. So all that people saw was a show that wasn't especially funny and thus not worth their attention. Those people came to Comedy Central for quality comedy. And Moonbeam City just wasn't quality comedy in their eyes.
>>
First of all, I am sick and tired of people comparing Moonbeam City to Archer. Moonbeam City and Archer were NOTHING like each other, and I don't understand the comparisons. Please somebody tell me how Archer and Moonbeam City were similar in any way, shape, or form. Pro tip: YOU FUCKING CAN'T!

Now.......

That being said........

I happen to be a fan of BOTH Archer AND Moonbeam City!

I, for one am very sad that Moonbeam City got cancelled, but I'm not surprised. Hey, Rob Lowe don't come cheap. I am also sadden by the fact that Chrysalis was never used to her full potential. Hey, I like nerdy looking red heads who wear glasses. What can I say?

That being said, who's looking forward to the new season of Archer, tomorrow? I sure am.
>>
>>81281341
(Continuing my comment here because I reached the word limit)

Now here's how the Adult Swim and its audience differs. For one, Adult Swim isn't solely a comedy network. Yes there is quite a lot of comedy that airs on there. But that's not the only thing that airs on there and because of that the audience may not just be interested how funny a show is and nothing else. In addition, Adult Swim and its audience seem to be more accepting of weird, absurdist, and off-the-wall shows than other networks and audience. And I do think that Moonbeam City would fit in at least some of those categories. Because of all of this, I think Moonbeam City would have fared better on Adult Swim. The audience there could have potentially looked past the show's not-so-great comedy and jokes and find interest in it's other aspects (like the ones I found interest in). The audience also may have been more interested in an off-the-wall and absurd show such as Moonbeam City.

There's also another important difference between Comedy Central and Adult Swim: how they advertise their shows. Now I don't know if this true for all of their shows but the way that Comedy Central advertised Moonbeam City was horrible. It just came off as so obnoxious and annoying. I have a feeling that Adult Swim would have advertised it in a different way. I'm not sure exactly which way specifically they would have advertised it. But it probably wouldn't have been like the obnoxious and annoying way that Comedy Central chose.
>>
>>81278421
>To be honest... Moonbeam City shouldn't have looked so similar in style and animation to Archer if it didn't want to be compared to Archer

>People actually think Archer invented realistic character design and anatomy and any other show that has it is copying Archer.

>Moonbeam City's animation is actually probably more fluid than Archer's, considering Moonbeam's characters don't move like puppets on strings.

Not surprising. The art and setting and everything about it was really good, but as a show, what it actually was, was generally just another shitty comedy. It's art was the ONLY thing that kept it going. if it had any other art style it wouldnt have gotten past the pilot.

if they'd played it straight and made it an actual sort of 80's cop show with nagel's art style it could have been great.
>>
So much salt in this thread. Moonbeam City's first few episodes might be their weakest which is why CC canceled them. The premier is the most important part and it got fucked. Also, MoonBeam was made to compete against Archer, so yes, there are a TON of comparisons to be made. That is the point of comparing, to make judgements based on a set criteria. However I'm just sad this art style wasn't wasted on the writing of Moonbeam. It didn't connect with me or a lot of other people. Hence there are so many nay-sayers for the show.

Also Archer was intentionally made with poor animation and art design, that part of the budget was cut so the writers could be the competitive advantage of the show. Even if Moonbeam was a success, Archer wouldn't be more pretty, that's not the focus of the show.

"Good question! I understand the comparison, they're both adult cartoons with less cartoony, more human-esque design. But I'm pretty baffled by anybody calling us a ripoff of Archer- that accusation seems to be made mainly by people who haven't actually watched our show.

If anything, I've always been a huge admirer of "Metalocalypse"- so weird and hilariously violent and insanely designed. That's why we chose Titmouse to be our animation studio (they do Metal and Black Dynamite and Venture Brothers and other great shows). I knew they'd dig the combo of beautiful design and really silly juvenile comedy. They've knocked it out of the park and been an incredibly fun place to work the last few years."

>>
>>81300059
How the fuck is Brickleberry getting approved? All I hear is terrible things about it.
>>
>>81300889
Well, it died after three seasons but now it's coming back as a comic book series as noted in >>81277899 as well as >>81285545.

See, Comedy Central being a cable network, doesn't need its shows to have very high ratings like network TV does to be considered a success. Anything over a million viewers is generally considered pretty good, and Brickleberry managed to keep a fairly consistent average in the mid to high 1 million bracket to be considered a high earner, and it was even the highest rated show among its target demo during season 2. Even with the ratings average dropping during season three it was still maintaining some level of popularity, just not enough for Comedy Central to consider keeping it going beyond that.

It's probably explained a bit better here.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brickleberry#Ratings

The thing about them doing this comic is that it's a way to keep it going since the creators still wanna do it, without anywhere near the same level of cost as the show. If it manages to make enough money, then that could potentially light up the dollar signs in the eyes of the higher-ups and they may well bring the show back, or at the very least attempt a DVD movie just to milk the property for some quick cash one last time like they did with Drawn Together years after it got canned.

Ultimately the whole thing is a numbers game, and Brickleberry's brand of crass humor, in addition to its Family Guy knockoff art style, is easily marketable to the young male demographic that like Daniel Tosh and other "Edgy" things of that nature.

Even though Tosh didn't create Brickleberry, he had a big hand in getting it greenlit in the first place, and using his name/already existing show to help promote it probably helped buy it more good favor than it would have had if Roger Black and Waco O'Guin had managed to get the show off the ground without him. If Moonbeam City had someone like Tosh backing it, odds are it might have survived a bit longer.

Do you think Moonbeam City would have done better if it aired on Adult Swim? Because while the Adult Swim audience likes those things too, they also have a taste for the strange and bizarre. Moonbeam City is a pretty off-the-wall and absurd show so maybe it would have done better on Adult Swim.

Also, Adult Swim is more of an animation network than a comedy network. Yes they do air live-action shows on there, some successful. However what they are primarily and most famously known for is animation. So maybe the Adult Swim crowd would have gave more attention to Moonbeam City due to it being an animated show (and a beautiful looking one at that) while being more forgiving of it's hit and miss while also taking other more positive aspects like the characters and the plots into consideration.

I doubt it would have done well critically regardless because the Archer comparisons were doomed to happen from the outset, but it might have been a better fit tonally for Adult Swim.

Well, I knew that before.

I think it could have been much better on AS simply because they're much more willing to indulge bizarre/deadpan/etc. writing played straight than CC is, where pretty much everything always manages to have the exact same brand of humor as Tosh.0 and Family Guy. Regardless of the other shit they pull, AS is generally quite willing to let someone with a potentially profitable vision take said vision wherever it may go.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
