>"I did Batman Begins with Chris [Nolan] 12 years ago, so The Dark Knight Trilogy might be three movies to you, to me it was 11 years of my life," he said. "[Batman v Superman] was very hard for me to do, to try to find new language."

Well this sucks
>>
>>81259908
Not really, he was very samey. He has more than a few strong individual pieces, but the majority of pieces on his soundtracks would be nothing special, and the whole of the ASM2 soundtrack was garbage. Good luck to him on whatever he does next.

I hope he doesn't go back to making crap music for Disney or Fox movies.

Stop plagiarizing Karl Holst, grandpa.

The MoS theme was literally the only good thing he's done.

TFA's score was entirely forgettable. Fury Road's was better in every way and it didn't even get nominated.

Enjoy your pity nomination and rightful loss.

Fucking finally. He should take a break from scoring films entirely, come back in 5-10 years. Everything sounds like Hans Zimmer these days, it's boring as shit.
>>

His ASM score was forgetable at best.

So that and MoS.

Hans Zimmer should go back to anime.

the rest sure but not that one

Now if only they would get rid of Snyder as well
>>
>>81260174
But Blood+ sucked ass, the animu not the score.

>>81260160
What about Angels and Demons? I thought that was some of his most unique work.
>>
Modern Zimmer sounds as generically epic as Two Steps From Hell.
>>
>>81259943
Williams hasn't put out anything of quality in some time.

The TFA soundtrack was extremely weak. The only real memorable parts are Reys theme and the Jedi steps finale. Both of which he had someone co-write with him.

He has done some excellent work, but TFA didn't deserve to be nominated.

Those things work fine in GotG. What's your problem?
>>
Well but Pirates of the Caribbean had a nice-ish score as well, I thought? Prince of Egypt?
>>
>>81260946
/co/ always hated Zimmer, anon. I'm sorry.
>>
That's sad. I get they will get Tom Holkenborg full time right now. If not, Alexandre Desplat is my favourite composer right now.
>>
>>81260946
Pirates 3 and Batman Begins were the last great things Zimmer did. Everything has been downhill since, but his collaboration with JunkiXL on BvS is pretty good.
>>
>>81261092
>Alexandre Desplat is my favourite composer right now.
Dat Godzilla theme. Always play it before reading the comics.

>>
>>81261092
DeSplat's Godzilla score was fantastic.
>>
The Batman theme was creation of Junkie XL. I don't know about the Wonder Woman theme. Man, that theme was really cool.
>>
>>81261228
Do it, faggot.
>>
>BvS so bad it scared away Zimmer
>>
>>81261244
>the Wonder Woman theme
Which one is it?
>>
>>81261182
Yeah, those were him too. Also Megamind. And the Little Prince, which I still haven't seen.

He's done a lot of good stuff actually
>>
Did he do Wonder Woman's theme in BVS? I liked his Superman tracks, and even his Batman ones, even Lex's was suiting for The Riddler. But what the FUCK was with WW's blaring congo drums and electric guitar? It was so out of place with the rest of the movie and just made me feel her appearances were them cramming the Wonder Woman commercials into the movie.
>>
>>81260946
>>81261182
>>81261324

Even as someone who's made fun of Zimmer a lot I can admit his Sherlock Holmes score was great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgRVJksQocM
>>
>>81260029

>implying Lex's theme wasn't simple but very great
>>
>>81261311
The loud obnoxious one that played every single time she was on screen. Remember when Bruce saw her picture on the screen and suddenly this blaring hardcore completely out of place music came on, and did the same while they had their msn convo, and when she showed up randomly against Doomsday? That one.
>>
>>81261498
OK, I'll look for it in my folder. Thanks.
>>
Is the soundtrack up somewhere? I want to give it a listen without having to see the movie
>>
I miss when movies had catchy John Williams (and Danny Elfman the one time with Batman) themes you could hum off the top of your head.

The last movies I remember having ear-worms that were instrumental was Howard Shore's stuff in Lord of the Rings.
>>
>>81261311
Probably the one with the 300 sounding guitars in it
>>
>>81261572
I feel MOS's wasn't too bad for that. The music was more emotional and inspirational than the entire movie.
>>
>>81261592
That was the one. Is THAT what they were going for? I could see it working in her own movie, but it hust seemed entirely opposite to anything else in this movie. I actually laughed out loud when it started blaring just for Bruce fapping to her picture on his computer.
>>
>>81260181

traditional, beat by beat film scoring basically only exists in animated movies these days.

Look there, you will see, they are still there and still fantastic.

With that being said I can still think of plenty of modern examples in action movies, you just need to look past these shithouse "big cape movie" dudes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMu5jP2-c5U

The "enterprise" theme from ST09's score is a real earworm for me.
>>
>>81261592
>>81261639
Fuck you, I'm listening to it and it's so cool.
>>
>>81261602
There's a difference between music that inspires an emotional reaction and a catchy tune you can hum.

While watching MoS or BvS, the music fit the scenes fine (I actually liked that loud 300-sounding theme that played for Wonder Woman's scenes)

...but I can't remember a single fuckin' note of it off the top of my head.
>>
>>81261658
Oh yeah, I did kinda like the Star Trek score.

Still, the themes within the movie itself weren't as strong as the cover of the 60's theme in the end credits and that seems like a problem to me.
>>
>>81261696
MoS' "Flight" is hard to forget.
>>
But Junkie XL is still exist
>>
>>81261658
What about Marvel Studios movies scores? Are they good? I know Alan Silvestri made Avengers.
>>
>>81261721
I guess I found a way, sir.

It's no "Dunna-na NAAH na" set to Keaton in black rubber staring up at the signal.
>>
>>81261760

IM3 and Winter Soldier's scores were both damn good.

Cap 1's was alright.

The rest are entirely forgettable.

well the problem with any modern star trek score is you have to fight TMP and WOK scores, which are 2 of the best in the entire history of cinema so you're sort of swimming uphill.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj4z2Y1y2Ak

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoit0OdKt-I

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3WG1zGAjao

>>81261760
I think they're alright, the very nature of the movies he's composing for just doesn't allow your personality as a composer to shine through though.

Why is ST:TMP so exceptional? partially because they actually let the composer do his stuff, there is a 4 minute sequence of basically panning shots in star trek the motion picture during which the music just carries you on an emotional journey almost by itself.

You don't have these breaks in a modern hyper focused tentpole movie, they don't have the option to have a personality, much like all these movies visually look nearly the same.

>I think they're alright
I'll give them a try; thanks.
>Horner

>>
>>81261922
another example for you, I mean why does everyone remember the jurassic park theme so much?

I mean shit yeah it's catchy, but do you think it maybe has something to do with that two minute helicopter ride where that beautiful theme blares at you endlessly?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghKy8FRhs28

This scene would be narcoleptic without this music and you can tell spielberg knew williams would have some dynamite to fill it so he gave him the space.
>>
>>81259908
Good, maybe he'll move onto something worthwhile.

>>81260479
Williams is just past his prime and out of his era. He was great for the 70's and 80's but in the 10's he's just not relevant anymore.
Hence, TFA.

>>
>>81261092
>>81261242
>>81261158
Desplat should replace him for Batman's solo films.

The shit he did for Zero Dark Thirty would work really well with Batman
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66rwA9cCCls

Don't know who could step up to the plate with Superman though
>>
>>81259908
I liked the music he did for the Simpsons movie, it was quite pretty and elevated the movie a bit in my opinion
>>
>>81262075
"Relevant"'s not the right word because the stuff he did in the 70's and 80's is still perfect and if you did nothing but reuse his old tracks to score a sequel to one of those flicks, it wouldn't be original but people would still love it.

He's just out of new ideas.
>>
>>81262095
the thing about desplat is he's a proper fucking composer who just happens to sell out to do these movies

Dude still writes concert pieces and such, you can so fucking tell he doesn't care about those hollywoody type soundtracks he does in interviews.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voX15vG2gOk
>>
>>81262200

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>81261639
Why? It fit the scene, start playing the music when she is on screen.
>>
Zimmer is/was great but he's so stale and every other composer is trying to copy his now stale technique.

What's worse? Every fucking trailer from anywhere sounds like a Hans Zimmer trailer. Seriously, show me a cape/adventure trailer that doesn't start with the typical piano and end with heavy bass a violins.

This is the best news I've heard all week.

>>
>>81263238
Yes, and?
>>
>>81263165
The thing is that films aren't as saturated with Zimmer copies as this thread thinks .There are mainly two things at plat here, the first being that famous and succesful artists are always influential on their medium for good or worse, and the second being that this is kind of an echo chamber.
>>

His best work was Dark Knight anyway and that was 8 years ago.

If he's retiring from cape movies instead of retiring forever that's fine.
