the power of shazam graphic novel and the 90's ongoing are a pretty good to start and then you can get into his stuff in JSA, you can also read his pre dc stuff, it has aged quite well for a golden age book, if you liked the "Shazam and the monster society of evil" miniseries (the one that you mentioned) there is an ongoin series that continues in that continuity called "Billy Batson and the magic of Shazam".

I hope the new pantheon/look sticks around for awhile. Granted source manipulation could be REALLY OP but the living fire is a nice compliment to living lightning.
