It really is.
The entire movie is ridden with this whole traditional religious imagery, to the mausoleum to Lex's painting.
In the former, Superman is even equated to the depiction of the Archangel Michael.

So, going demonic is completely what Snyder is going for.

The movie is serviceable. It has it's fair share of problems but it's still enjoyable. The plot is a bit clunky but almost everyone does well with what they have to work with.

The fight scenes are well done,Afflekc kills it as Batman and Gadot wasn't terrible.

Try to keep an open mind about the movie. Don't expect it to be god tier.
