I think the Extended Edition would solve a lot of the film's problems, so its a shame that's not what's getting a wide release. Lex was great in this movie. I hated him at first but he just works. Cavill's Superman is awful though. It's like someone played a prank on Snyder and gave him Ultraman comics to read with Superman shopped into them and told him that Superman should have a permanent scowl on his face at all times. This Superman never smiles once and when he shows up, it feels like he's Thor. Instead of inspiring hope, it's fear.

I think those connections have been around for a long time before Snyder made them.

And also you're mistaking how the Father-Son connection actually works. There are some aspects of divine knowledge that ONLY the Father is privy too, but Jesus damn sure knows what his mission is on Earth by virtue of his codivinity with the Father and what must eventually happen to him. Supes does not have that knowledge of the future and is going about it as a regular person would, no divine knowledge, just based on what his own interpretation of what another flawed human would want for him.

Just because it's a spear doesn't mean that it's supposed to be the Lance that pierced Christ's side. That's not the role it plays in the story at all.

In fact I'm sick of people mistaking the actual symbolism behind that spear. It's not some mythical god-killing weapon, Jesus was already dead when it was used. Instead it was a TEST of his divinity, as John points out, it was specifically foretold to happen by Isaiah, and the water and blood that flows forth from the wound it creates is symbolic of Jesus' shared divine and human natures.

The editing in this movie really ruined what could have been a great film. I am a hardcore Superman fan and I could barely follow some of the plot points they were going for.

The beginning was too slow due to setting up Batman in a movie that is not his, it would have been miles better if DC had more patience with world building. Superman dying felt forced, I think Snyder realized that his version of the character was too unlikable for the world and thus Martyred him as a soft reboot for the characterization. Lex would have been great if it turned out his brain was jumbled because of the Anti-life equation, but obviously he was Autistic before discovering it.
