People have said that lack of advertisement was responsible. There was only one official trailer that they played on CN.

In a brony interview, since Craig is married to Lauren Faust, he said the movie flopped because many of the fans back then are not like today's fans. Back then guys were embarrassed to go watch a movie "for girls" while today is kinda "normal" or at least not as bad seen as it used to.

If that same movie was going to be released this year it would be a huge success.

man this reboot just made me appreciate the original show so much more. it really is a timeless classic (though the later seasons got a bit mediocre, but still better than this pos reboot)

Don't bother. It really is just Tumblrpuff Girls.

The movie was kinda bad imo
Didn't feel very imaginative, or even in the same spirit as the show. Would have been cooler if it was some big goofy epic that served as an ending to the series, not just an origin story. I feel they played it too safe, they put a lot of effort into making it a standard moviegoer experience and it suffered because of that.
They're also too bobble headed and mojo looks like a goblin

Probably because it was a boring origins movie in which 3/4 of the time nothing happens. Also it wasn't even 90 minutes long.

If they had tried to make an end finale movie with less 5th grade writing then maybe it could have worked.
