Lets consider the two most popular theories about Pink Diamond and a third, hybrid theory

1: Lion is pink diamond
Pros:
>Explains pic related
>Explains what lion is and why he is so powerful
>Explains why Rose is shown using pink diamond in the mural
>Lions are depicted as royal animals
Cons:
>Lion is pretty small compared to most diamonds
>The crew probably would have objected to everyone misgendering lion if he was a girl

Pink Diamond is a fusion of Rose and Bismuth
Pros:
>Bismuth takes on a diamond shape at the right angle
>explains why rose was able to gain such a huge army
>explains why we haven't even seen PD's mural
>explains who bismuth is
Cons:
>Garnet's fusion was called "unprecedented"
>Pearl probably would have recognized Lion
>it does not explain pic related

Both: Lion is Bismuth
Pros:
>all of the above
Cons:
>all of the above
>bubbled gems aren't supposed to reform (though they can be absorbed, as with the bird from Giant Woman)

What do you guys think?
>>
>implying your shitty theory/theories are popular
>>
>>81108972
Lion is pink diamond is a pretty popular theory. Rose is PD is the only other popular theory, but that one has so much wrong with it that it's not even funny
>>
Lion is Pink Diamond's Pearl will be my headcanon until the reveal.
>>
>>81108904
have you considered that maybe lion isn't even gem related? He could be some other type of alien. for example a friend of rose who's planet she couldn't save.
>>
>>81109070
Oh, I forgot to include that one. Let's look over the evidence:

Lion is pink pearl:
Pros:
>Explains Lion's storage dimension
>Explains who and what Lion is
Cons:
>does not explain lion's spacial manipulation
>does not explain lion's color scheme

>>81109076
Impossible. Rose would know about Lion if that were the case
>>
>>81108904
I think the most important thing to consider is will this hiatus end?

>>81109242
It's not a hiatus if THE EPISODES HAVE EXISTED FOR MONTHS NOW AND THE NETWORK JUST REFUSES TO AIR THEM

YES I AM MAD
>>
>>81109365
Why? Wouldn't they want all threads condensed to one? Never got that.
>>
>>81109413
Mods went out of their way to make up a new rule that generals can't be made unless there's a new episode airing within two weeks or whatever just to purge /sug/.
>>
>>81109485
Where is that rule? I can't find it.
>>
>>81109413

Condensing all SU discussion to one thread just encourages shitposting.
>>
>>81109538
You can't find it because the only indication we got is a post by a mod. Admins are lazy fucks and don't actually update the written rules anyway. I don't have the screencap of the post, but I'm sure someone else does.
>>
>>81109541
Shitposting in other threads? Like, other than to people in the generals why does that matter?
>>
>>81109623
It's not really a rule then, just some of the mods' personal dispute.
>>
>>81108904
There is no doubt in my mind that Pink Diamond is an entirely new character that hasn't been shown yet. A diamond whose color is pink, that is. Rose Quartz is a quartz whose color is rose. Quartz gems are large, powerful warriors, which is exactly what Rose is. Diamonds are like three times her size and skinnier, less broad. Diamonds aren't fusions either.

And lion is his own thing ffs.
>>
>>81109700

In and out of the thread, yes. It also makes it difficult to actually discuss the show. These individual threads are leaps and bounds above what the general would be capable of at this point in a hiatus.

Plus, if you really want to just shitpost, there IS a /sug/ just for that over in /trash/, so everybody wins.
>>
>>81109538
It's a rule they pulled out of their ass considering /sveg/ is still up.
>>
>>81109485

And it's literally just /sug/. Every other show can have a general whenever the fuck they want, be it on hiatus or not even airing any more.
>>
>>81109840
So the fact that in between the rebellion and the present PInk Diamond coincidentally got dethroned? I doubt it.
>>
>>81109822
Exactly.
But mods can ban so what they say goes.
Buncha queers.
>>
>>81110053
Careful, you might trigger their fragile sensibilities. I've seen men banned for less.
>>
>>81110053
Complaining about the moderation is against the rules.
>>
File: image.png (100KB, 332x281px) Image search: [Google]

100KB, 332x281px
>>81110159
Banning is just a cheap tactic to make weak mods stronger.
>>
>>81110044
Of course not. It's almost certainly Rose's fault that Pink Diamond isn't around, but that doesn't mean she IS Pink Diamond.
>>
>>81110424
The way I see it, Pink Diamond was the first one to see life as sacred, or perhaps Rose convinced her, and the other Diamonds would have none of that shit and basically just fucking executed her, and that's what inspired Rose to rebel.
>>
I just watched the first episode. Does it get better than this? It was kind of bleh.

Im guessing its a show for grills?
>>
>>81110664
yes, it gets better, but you will have to give it a little time, try to stick for Ep. 12 at least (and please watch them in order), if you donĀ“t get interested on it at this point, probably its not for you and you can drop it.
>>
>>81109015
What dispells that theory? People have asked showrunners on twitter & they never outright say no, Rose Quartz is not Pink Diamond.
>>
Why does Pink Diamond have to be anyone other than Pink Diamond? I fuckin hate fanfiction tier shit like this. I want whatever Pink Diamond's story is to open up a whole new world, not be revealed to be some bullshit person conveniently tied directly to Steven.

Basically, I don't want this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYk1G7EfidM

This anon >>81111144 speaks the general consensus on when people really start to enjoy SU.
12 episodes sounds like a lot but you can get through it in ~2.5 hours.
>>
>>81108904
counterpoint: Steven is a Gundam and you're a faggot.
>>
>>81111266
Wrong size, wrong gem shape, she steven are repeatedly called quartzes several times in the show by people who don't know her and/or wouldn't respect the name if she changed it. Not to mention that she fits the description of a quartz perfectly
>>
>>81111266
>People have asked showrunners on twitter & they never outright say no
i'll never understand people that ask creators about huge plot spoilers, like they'd actually give a real answer
>"who's pink diamond?"
>"oh it's rose, we were going to do this entire cartoon series about it, but here you go"
>>
>>81111378
Pink diamond is suspected to be someone we know primarily because the show runners are trying to keep her in the dark. We still don't know why we weren't shown Pink Diamond on the moon base.

Of course the idea that Rose was pink diamond predates the hints that there WAS a pink diamond. A lot of the assumptions are left over from that, but we probably would have seen pink diamond by now if she wasn't someone we've already encountered or a combination thereof
>>
>>81111690
Rose an archetypal quartz? Bullshit. Hair isn't light pale unkempt mane, not exactly broad shouldered, never shown to be able to perform a spin dash, & perhaps the most flaky gem we have ever met. Loyal soldier? More like xenophilic traitor!
>>
>>81111690
Diamond is a highly regarded name/type to gems. It would be seen as disrespectful if a gem referred to a diamond as anything other than diamond (like clod).
>>
>>81111932
haiving a light pale unkept mane, broad shoulders and being able to spin dash aren't defining qualities of a quartz. Some known quartzes have those properties, but not all of them

>>81112002
hence why Jasper doesn't call Rose "Pink Diamond"

She isn't a fucking Diamond
>>
>>81110664
There are better episodes than the first episode, but I think if you didn't like the first episode it's PROBABLY a waste of your time watching the rest. The show is themed around sentimentality and platonic love. All the powerful characters are female. There is virtually no action in the show and a lot of time is dedicated to goofy side characters. So yes it's pretty much for grills, and faggots like me.
>>
>>81111913
If Pink Diamond was an entirely new character they would still not spoil all the details, just like they did with Yellow Diamond before. Why would they go out of their way to spoil ANYTHING that would be better off getting revealed in its time?
>>
>>81112029
Don't you think other gems adopted the name Rose Quartz for Pink Diamond to spite her?
>>
>>81112029
Both of the known quartzes have expressed such characteristics. Peridot spelled out the defining traits of a quartz. It raises eyebrows when Rose doesn't fit all the qualities. Rose is not an intimidating person. Her presence doesn't provoke fear, on the contrary, she comforts those near her.
>>
>>81112168
exactly the opposite. They would refuse to call her any name she took on

See:
>"Bruce" Jenner
>Donald "Drumph"
>Jon "Leibowitz"

and so on.

>>81112293
Peridot never said anything about spin dashes or manes. Mind you that Sardonyx has neither of those things despite being a quartz, and Rose's head-to-shoulder ratio is larger than ametheyst's by far.

Point is, you're a fucking mongoloid
>>
>>81112369
You have it ass-backwards. If one used to be called a prince but then resorted to violence against his constituents to oppose a crusade mandated by the king, citizens would not continue to call the traitor a prince now, would they?

Sardonyx was not composed of any quartz-based gems.
>>
>>81112369
Amethyst cannot be used as a measuring stick for quartzes- she's defective.
>>
>>81112645
So you're going to ignore everything else in that post? And the one before that? And the one before that?
>>
>>81112823
You're the one who's dense. I told you, it is insulting to NOT call a diamond a diamond. Yellow Diamond's followers sprinkle "my diamond" in every sentence addressed to her. What is so difficult to get this?
>>
Do you think Pearl would be more shocked at Steven dropping an F-bomb than Greg would be proud that his son knows who Sid Vicious is if they heard him singing this?

Guys, what if Pink Diamond "split" into Rose Quartz and Lion?
Sort of like a Timelord watch that seals your powers, so you can't be tracked?
>>
>>81108904
Whether or not the Rose is Pink Diamond theory is true or not, I just wonder how it's going to affect Steven and the other Gems.
How will Pearl react, knowing that she knows even LESS about Rose than she thought she did? How will Greg react, knowing that the one he loved wasn't really the one he thought she was? How will Steven react, knowing that he and his mother aren't actually Quartz types, and that he's actually a diamond and should be one of the rulers of Homeworld? And how will he try to keep the team together?

That's partially why I want this theory to be true, to see how all the character interaction changes with this revelation.

Lion is their cat, probably some Gem shenanigans going on to transform him.

They make references to a missing cat a lot and Greg has cat stuff in his garage or something. Lion literally acts like a cat not a lion.

Lion is literally Rebecca Sugar's cat in real life. Steven is based on her brother, the Gems are based on her...it's a show about her whole family.

I don't know about "a lot". Pretty sure it was only that one time with Greg's storage thing.

Lion acts like a cat because it's funny.
>>
>>81118587
I honestly love just how good a representation of felines in general Lion is.
He is lazy, and rarely ever makes a sound, because he knows everything is chill and cool and he is in control of the situation.
But when shit goes down he suddenly wrecks yor shit.
>>
>>81117943
Not really no. It's gonna be a show I only watch once I have a feeling.
>>
Rose is pink diamond.

She is the "protective and healer" diamond, with Yellow fighter, Blue tactician and White commander.

Greg says "she had to return to her original form when came to earth" in "The Return".

Steven has power in his voice. Not because he is convincent, but because he is king. He does not convince, he gives orders and the rest takes them.

What if he's an experiment on forming a gem without a central core gem, and instead consists of a distributed gem powder fiber grid that makes up his body? We know steven has definitely more "substance" than gems, so this might be connected.

Harvesting other gems is probably a gem v gem combat technique, where you use disabled enemy forces to power your own.
I doubt Rose and CG used it, as they're all lovey dovey (despite using Lapis). Harvesting could be a modern gem method, maybe developed in the assumed war against pink diamond

I personally believe Lion is a corrupted Crystal Gem who Rose was trying to heal in secret. Maybe even Rose's pearl servant gone gem monster during the rebellion. For this theory to work we have to assume that Lion has been placated, but has yet to regain its humanity. It still recognizes Rose's gem, or else it would have been more hostile to Steven on first meeting. It also regularly captures small gem monsters and brings them back to the CG's, in the comics moreso. This behaviour could be seem as Lion trying to fulfill his duty as a former CG. Every gem gets a storage dimension it seems, and perhaps Lion's power is spatial manipulation. Hence the teleportation and large storage dimension. Lion's gem would have to be under his mane for this to work, which would make sense since that's how Steven got into the storage dimension. If Lion was Rose's pearl as well, that'd explain how he knew about the moon base, the weapon facility, and why he has all of her stuff.

Oh, we posting headcanons here? Okay then.

>Lion isn't in any way related to Pink Diamond.
I think Lion is just a remnant of Rose's power: made the same way Cat Fingers went down, but with actual planning and skill behind it to make a seperate, sentient feline from her body.
This remnant would in turn watch over Steven and house things she wished to give to him.

>Bismuth isn't Pink Diamond either
I'm still thinking that Bismuth, especially seeing how it's clearly an artificial cubic crystal bismuth, is either some kind of weapon or, more likely, some kind of failed experiment at creating Gem life without draining life from a planet.
Basically, Bismuth is Steven 1.0, and it went horribly wrong leading Rose to bubble it and stick it inside Lion as she couldn't bring herself to destroy it.

>Who is Pink Diamond?
Someone entirely new. Rose's Diamond whom she was completely loyal to like all quartz. But Pink did something to upset the other Diamonds, leading to her being crushed or excommunicated.
This gave Rose the straw that broke the camel's back and she started her rebellion based on the ideals of her Diamond.
Hence her flag being a rose growing out of a Pink Diamond.

And a hybrid of a Gem with another intelligent species would be her magnum opus, even if her life's greatest work would cost her that very life. Touching, but she was still fucking nutters.
>>
>>81129885

Well, let's go down the list:

- Bismuth, lead, and tin is combined to make a substance known as Rose's Metal. Rose's Metal is used as solder in stoneworking, as a transference medium in heat baths, and as a malleable filler for metalcraft.

- Bismuth was once important in alchemy as a transitional step between low value materials such as lead and tin to high value materials such as gold and silver.

- Bismuth hopper crystals are lab-grown.

Theory: Rose Quartz created Bismuth most likely while trying to devise a means to repair destroyed gems or heal corrupted ones. Her secret experimentations were failures, and so Bismuth was packed away in Lion with all her other precious treasures in the hope that Steven may one day continue her work.

"Alone Together" is a really solid episode, but I think my favorite so far has been "Joy Ride." It really captures the feeling of making your own fun in a small town, and also just driving around at night and talking about life with your friends.

Pink Diamond faked her own death then disguised herself as Pink Diamond's supposed killer, a high-ranking Rose Quartz. That's why Rose (and thus Steven) have several abilities and traits very much unlike the other Quartzes we know and have been described as.

Our Pearl was either a gift or an escaped failure from White Diamond's group, explaining how her color scheme doesn't match the pink diamond on her space outfit.

I also believe that Pearls are created equal to other gem types (while trending more towards Pearl-type personalities) and are systematically trained, beaten, and bred (for lack of a better word) to create the modern Pearl model, similar to Chiuahuas.

I don't believe that specifically because it then further implies a level of gem-racism I don't believe Rebecca Sugar would take the show down.

From studying the SJW, I've realized that there are two different meanings/interpretations of racism and why some groups underperform compared to others- the classic nature vs nurture.

Nature is the subject of privilege and ranking. This is how a rich black woman can be more oppressed than a poor white man, simply because black < white and woman < man, compared to just rich > poor. Now we also know that is bullshit, since race and gender can't be controlled but finances certainly can. This type of belief is dangerous because it treats people as numbers, not as individuals. Those that spout about nature racism are both stupid and dangerous, and come from both sides of the spectrum.

This idea implemented into gems would mean that pearls are fundamentally less than other gem types.

Nurture for the most part focuses entirely on income and parental attention. These are things that for the most part can be controlled. However, this quickly becomes the subject of class warfare, which the ones at the top absolutely do not want. So any topic of nurture is quickly injected with nature, which splits people apart based off things they had no control over and destroys any movement.

This idea implemented into gems would mean that pearls have the same potential of any other gem, but are trained and enforced (and thus oppressed) to be lesser.

Rebecca Sugar is not a SJW, so I don't believe she's make pearls inherently lesser than other gems. Certainly treated and trained to be, but in potential no.

Knowing that the shows creator is one of us- a shipping, lewd, shitposter. You can still look up her Invader Zim fan fiction and EEnE Yaoi art
That Rebecca Sugar was responsible for some of the best parts of early Adventure Time.
That delicious feeling of dread that only a big reveal in a show can give you. Best example would be from FMA:B (also written by a woman) where Ed and some others are in a tunnel and Ed asks for a map and recent battles. That feeling you get when you realize what's happening/the implications before the rest of the cast is exquisite.

I'm not very pleased with some stray lines and Lapis' skin color (I can never seem to get it just right), but the lack of the purple streaks that are in the original picture are something I can forgive myself for, because there's no way I could replicate that effect with any practicality by using traditional media. I've been listening to the Diamonds themes and how similar they are
https://soundcloud.com/aivisura/steven-universe-yellow-diamond
https://soundcloud.com/aivisura/steven-universe-blue-diamond

Fuck these are great. I love how creepy and eerie they are. Definitely the sound you would expect for a creature from a far away galaxy. A creature that is also powerful gigantic ruler. All of that is captured in these tunes. I also really like the build up in YD's theme. You can hear the tension growing between Peridot and Yellow Diamond, as the small gem slowly expresses more and more opposition. Eventually when Peridot mentions "there are things on this planet worth protecting", you can shortly hear an optimistic and joyful melody similar to Crystal Gem themes, declaring her to switch between sides.

If Lion is Pink Diamond, it starts and ends the story potential right then and there.

If Pink Diamond is Rose and Bismuth, then that adds a WHOLE bunch of story potential, and extra implications for the diamonds.

Bismuth is not a Gem outright, but a chemical element and post-transition metal. That means it's something entirely new to the heirarchy, and likely the sort of armament ALL Diamonds use when they fuse from Quartz. So all the Diamonds have a respective element they fuse with to become Diamonds. Something that keeps sentience, but increases power. Essentially the sort of fusion Diamonds would approve of, not the haram fusing of two into one, or the fusing of several of the same into a bigger one, but fusing one into a stronger one.

PLUS, think of this. If Bismuth + Rose Quartz = Pink Diamond, then it stands to reason Bismuth + Quartz = Diamond for any quartz. Amethyst and Jasper are Quartz, if there's a power to become Diamond, imagine what that could imply for either of the two to be stronger. Jasper craves to be stronger than Rose, Amethyst is hungry for respect and being more than just the runt of the Crystal Gems. Maybe this is part of Amethyst's betrayal arc getting hinted at.

And we've seen NOTHING of White Diamond all this time, and there's another hanging thread of some artifact incased in black muck, trapped on the moon, since the warp pad's gone. Maybe the reason this conflict grew is that THAT is yet another armament metal, perhaps White Diamond's, perhaps something new entirely.

And as for why Lion exists, my guess is both for an experiment at creating new gem life, and hiding Bismuth and other treasures in plain sight. If Homeworld cared little for organic life before, another lion roaming the world wouldn't register on their sights either.

I guess, at least to me, it's just nice to talk about the show. What you like about it, disliked, anything, just to keep it relevant during this hiatus.

This show has a surprising amount of depth, like in the first episode you can see Connie's glow ring and later on they bring that up. The show does that well, putting small things that you might miss and bringing them up later. The Crewniverse, I believe, has also had the whole show planned out for a long time now. So, this show is gunna have a tight plot, not airtight, but tight enough. Also, Greg is best dad.
>>

I wonder how far they actually planned ahead though. I noticed how garnet's eyes initially aren't colored like later after the reveal, but I always suspected the two gems meant something.

One thing that bothers me a bit is how it initially deals a lot with fighting monsters, who are later revealed to be insane or corrupt gems, but that is never really followed up on. No plot about how compassion keeps you in mental shape, or how you need to support each other to keep your form or something. The closest we got was the amethyst regeneration episode, where she "loses herself" a bit, but it's never connected to going rogue.
So I wonder was that entire thing setting something up, or just a phase to find what the show wants to be about?

Taking plot threads that have been left hanging and drawing some attempts at conclusions
>what is the purpose of Lion and its connection to Pink Diamond
>why would Bismuth, an element and decidedly NOT a gem, be a thing in a world of Gems and Gem Monsters
>what happened to Pink Diamond
>what was that thing in the black orb on the moon
>what do all those episode titles hinting at Amethyst's betrayal mean
>why is it that we've gone through so many gems, seen so many different crystals, and not ONE of them is tied to White Diamond
>where do the diamonds come from, what is their purpose or reason for ruling the Gem Society
>why is cross-fusion so prohibited in Gem Society while fusion of same gems isn't, if fusion makes stronger gems, surely the diamonds would want to experiment with this ability and try more gem combinations for their campaigns
I could be wrong. But it's a lot of threads that could be connected if we explore Bismuth. Lion as he is now doesn't have that luxury.

As far as "monster of the week" reformation, Centepeedle. We saw it at it's worst with the first episode, later in Monster Buddies, and possibly in a future episode Monster Reunion. This show is a slow burn and still in it's beginning stages. Sadly, CN is holding it captive and won't let it progress due to reasons.

>Invest in actually decent merchandise for more than just two shows that aren't even significantly more popular than your other main offerings.

I don't understand the skepticism with Rose herself filling up the "Pink Diamond" role. Pink Diamond is a name that is theorized, and the name is never ACTUALLY mentioned in the show, so it's still perfectly plausible, and a hundred times more likely than Lion filling the fourth and final spot on the oligarchy.

On top of that we know that after wartime the Pink was removed from the Diamond Authority emblem. So there really is no reason to believe that Rose isn't the 4th oligarch, except that the other 3 are diamonds, which is a stupid fucking reason to believe it can't be rose.

Does anyone have a comprehensive collection of real gemstone trivia? Not strictly SU related.
Like what are Quartzes? what is a ruby and a saphire? Are emeralds different?
And diamonds are just carbon, right?

Holy fuck I don't have the slightest idea how jewels work.
>>
>>81162514
From my knowledge quartz is simply the result of minieral acumulation, that's why they are more common. Diamond is carbon+stupidly high pressure+Stupidly high temperature+a few thousand years.
>>
>>81162514

>Like what are Quartzes?

Quartz is an oxide mineral with a trigonal/hexagonal crystal structure, and the second most abundant mineral on Earth. There are about 20 different major varieties of quartz, including rose, citrine, onyx, jasper, and agate.

>what is a ruby and a saphire?

Ruby and Sapphire are corundum, a crystalline form of aluminum oxide. All transparent corundum is known as sapphires and come in a large variety of colors, but with two exceptions: red sapphires are known as rubies, and pink-orange sapphires are known as padparadschas.

>Are emeralds different?

Yes. Emeralds are actually a variety of beryl crystal with a chromium impurity, which causes it to be green.

>And diamonds are just carbon, right?

Specifically, diamonds are a metastable allotrope of carbon with a cubic formation that aligns into a lattice.

That's to be expected of any character only ever referenced in passing memories or short stories.

If you felt like she was a 3d, relateable character, she'd be prominent enough in every episode that her 'death', for lack of a better word, would be meaningless.

You're not -supposed- to see her as a character as real as Pearl or Greg, or anyone Steven interacts with on a daily basis.
Because that's exactly how Steven feels about her. He never met the woman and neither did we.

All either of us have to go on are stories and opinions of other characters.

It's a well-restrained and good storytelling mechanic.

The diamond authority symbol, and how it was altered pre-war to post-war. After the war the pink was removed from the diamond authority symbol.

And if Pink Diamond was a part of the rebellion then we would have heard of them. So far Rose has been the definite leader of the rebellion.

The gems are hinted at just being really really advanced technologically to the point people call it magic.

In fact, I'm willing to bet almost all of them haven't got the faintest clue how any of their shit works.
Like, does your average person have any clue as to how their samsung phone and their own human body works?

Whatever knowledge they have is probably spread amongst R&D departments of various Peridots (and any other creative gem classes we've not met yet).

To be fair, once you enter the microchips territory common sense kills itself and shit gets arcane. And medics don't really know how our body works either, they've got an inkling of how some superficial systems work and rigged some explanations og why it may be, then started working based in the possible explanations that killed the less people when applied medically.
But yeah, I understand what you mean.
>>
>>81165658
Well, no, actually microchips are relatively simple.

As much as computing power has advanced, all it's really done is increased the number of transistors a given chip has. It's still a 1 or a 0 that you get at the end of the day.
Just as Turing made it.

If you're talking subatomic; quantum computing, then yes, common sense does break down and get freaky, but there's nothing arcane about any of the computers around on earth in 2016.

>if Pink Diamond was a part of the rebellion then we would have heard of them.

Who the fuck said PD had to be part of the rebellion?

>So far Rose has been the definite leader of the rebellion.

Rose being a rebel leader doesn't make her PD. You don't have to be royalty to lead a rebellion.

The Diamonds probably keep them ignorant on purpose. For a tyrant godking, the less your people know the easier it is to control them.

Kinda fair, as most people don't understand their own anatomy and at least with Amethyst, her form seems to be a more intuitive thing than anything else...

Headcanon: the first Gems were created by humans, on Earth, 10,000 years ago in Atlantis. That's why they look like humans. But society became dependent on them so much that when they finally rebelled, society collapsed. They destroyed Atlantis and then left Earth. But in the intervening time they forgot their origins.

Technology implies design and construction. If someone in some fantastic universe is just born with the power to shoot fire out of his fingertips, that's not technology. It works for science fiction, but not fantasy.

>What would they mention it for? To talk with humans who just wouldn't get it?
What's the difference, in that situation, between saying "it's magic" and saying "it's advanced Gem technology"? They wouldn't understand it anyway. And why would they lie about something like this to Steven, who is the one often hearing about it?

>>81166899
>until they developed science and started to learn more about shit.
Which the Gems did.

>>81166981
What do they gain from doing that?

Let's just take a step back and realize that you're all inventing a complicated network of lies that the characters in the show keep up just because for some reason it's impossible for the show to be as much fantasy as it is science fiction, even though there's no reason to assume it isn't.
>>
>>81167087
>, that's not technology
You are right. It'd be biology.
Look, you seem to be asuming that magic is inherently inexplicable bullshit. Magic, if it existed, could in fact be analyzed and developed, just like any other branch of science. Hence people calling some things magitech in literature.
>>
>>81165414
The D&D geek in me points me to Gem "magic" being psionics, all just a bunch of different psychic powers like psychoportation, metacreativity and shit. A power that on-the-move Gems could have for space travel might involve some mumbo jumbo about dimensional folding.
>>
>>81166964

That is a REAL stretch.

Not just that, but the place they call HOMEworld is in another galaxy.

>>
>>81167207
>Look, you seem to be asuming that magic is inherently inexplicable bullshit
Not inherently, but it can be, and often is. It depends on what the creator wants. He can make it something that can't, in fact, be analyzed and developed, and not just because it's too complicated for humans or whoever to feasibly get, but because it really doesn't have the kind of internal logic and consistency that something needs to be understood. Magic by the modern definition doesn't exist. It's something you see in stories.

As much as I want to believe in the fantastically wide array of available forms, I have to agree. The only feasible improvement I can think about would be a tail. Wings sound fancy too, but they'd add a lot of stress to the column that ultimately would leave you invalid before reaching the twenties.
>>
>>81167476
I think it's safe to think that rebellions are quite rare, just from the way that every gem -from- homeworld has actually talked and behaved.

They don't act like individuals, they act like servants of a feudal Chinese emperor.

The quartz soldiers (in this case; Jasper) speak of honour of battle, and the worker bees like Peridot couldn't even think outside the box of the class-based system she lives in.
As far as most gems are probably concerned, they're made for a specific purpose that ultimately is serving 'their' diamond in one form or another.

If the earth -is- special, it's only because it happens to be the place that a small handful of gems came to realize they're sapient individuals just like the creatures they found on earth and not the drones they've been told they are their whole lives.

In that case, the earth is just a location of cultural significance to them.

Like Jerusalem or Mecca.

It's a place where some stuff happens that they believe strongly in.

I got the gist that the rebellion has actually lost. All of them except Rose and a couple gems died, their dead shards got merged into a WMD and that WMD was going to blow up the whole place anyway. Plus there was nothing stopping them from sending a new army except the lack of giving a fuck. Look how a single Jasper just shat on them and took them captive without Rose.

Jasper shat because of a tech difference, only really a one time use card, especially as Steven seems pretty immune
The rebellion was won as Homeworld was forced to abandon their supposed conquer and spruce-ing up of earth, and had to make do with a crappy geo-weapon, who our resident technician Peridot wasn't that amazed with (although she is bias).

Homeworld lost as they failed their main objectives going into the conflict. Changing the goalposts doesn't count.

...Is there any reason to think Jasper was not made on Earth? That would be funny.

Amethyst: "Oh yeah? Over my shattered body! I was made on this planet, and I'll -"

Lmao nigga "life force" get the fuckoutahere that's just gem-talk for some other shit. It could be connected to organic life, who knows.
Organic life causes tons of chemical changes in planets as well, maybe the atmosphere or the carbon-based matter (oil coal etc) in the ground are also needed for gem production
>>
>>81168474
>>81168523
This.

I don't get why there's so much overthinking this shit.
The gems grow by sucking out life from the planet (or at least the components necessary for it), leading to massive desolation of the land.
They then use that life force/energy/whatever they soaked up as some magical force capable of taking on any form of matter and somehow constantly replenishing.

>>
>>81168225
nothing ever said they need organic-inhabited planets in order to make themselves.

The organics they found on earth have been treated thus far as nothing more than a queer anomaly sitting aboard just another mineral-rich planet they found.

They haven't even shown us what shape Mars is in; it's definitely smaller than earth, but it's got plentiful minerals arguably similar to earth's.
Who knows, it might be 'gemworldformed' into a minor hub for their operations.

And depending on how well they can deal with extreme heat or expelling the atmosphere of a planet, Venus is just as viable as Earth.
If they had the power to eject Venus' greenhouse-gas heavy atmosphere, it would cool enough to begin operations on.

For all we know, both those planets have outposts on them and were marked 'next' on the 'Gentrification of Sol' to-do list.

Your putting too much thought into this.

The difference in the emblem pre and post war emblem probably signifies something having to do with the war.

Despite what it's inflated to be, it's still a fucking kids show. I seriously doubt that, with a character that already fits the ballot so well, there will be a whole new character who we never meet, yet has been hinted to the whole show.

It's a kids show moron. Things are built to make sense.

If this were real life I would consider your opinion, but every single point you gave relied on my initial argument being false. So if my initial argument is true; the war being the cause of the changing of the insignia of the diamond authority, then everything you said is false.

So it really just comes down to that question. Was the war the cause for removal, and because it's a show designed to make sense, I think it will be.

Why the fuck would you list 4 points that, by the way, were just a response to what you said earlier and not evidence, and try to disprove them in a WHAT IF scenario where what I said is false.

All I said is why add a new character who is already dead when we have one that makes sense already, and you changed what I said to an argument...

Wait why the fuck do I care. If you went through all this trouble to prove me wrong you probably aren't worth arguing with.

Your argument is shit man. It's like asking two questions and taking the answer for the second one as the answer for the first

I suggest it mainly because it would work so nicely with the overall dynamic of the show..

JASPER: [complete puzzlement]

Octopus have no capacity for proprioception. They literally don't have the ability to know exactly where their tentacles are or to tell them exactly what to do. Close your eyes and touch your nose. . Their brain says "tentacle, I want you to do this," and the sub-brains controlling the tentacle make it happen. Your brain controls the fine details of manipulation. That's why you are an intelligent, tool using creature and an octopus never can be

tl;dr It doesn't matter how well an octopus is adapted to its environment or how smart it is: that is all it is capable of.

Pretty sure every gem is capable of summoning a weapon.
Just like every gem has hammerspace in their gem.

The difference is whether or not they're taught to use it.
The fact that Pearl can summon her spears is evidence enough that any gem can summon a weapon.
The only gem we haven't seen summon anything thus far that we have seen in more than one episode has been Sapphire and Peridot.
Sapphire likely knows how, but has yet to be given a need to do so (ruby only showed hers cause of ANGER).
Peridot likely doesn't know how to summon a weapon just like she doesn't know how to fuse. She'll learn both in time.

As for the hammerspace:
>Pearl constantly uses her hammerspace
>Peridot pulled her EMP mine out of nowhere in Marble Madness, implying she's got a hammerspace too
>Lion's mane seems to act very similarly to Pearl's hammerspace and may be tied to Rose/something else.
Pretty sure it's another one of those "every gem can do it, but some just don't" things.

>>81169271
>the purpose for Rose's shield is not clear.

What do you mean? She's a support type. A field medic. Her shield's purpose is to provide cover for the other Quartzes in her unit.

Imagine, if you will, a line of Roze Quartes on a battlefield, arranged into a phalanx with rows of Chalcedony hoplites. A translucent wall of pink shields with powder blue spears jutting out, wholly impenetrable and marching steadily forward. Behind them, batteries of Agate artillerymen patiently wait for the signal from Jasper spotters within the wall of death to begin unloading their explosive payloads.

It's beautiful. So very beautiful.

What doesn't make sense to me are the melee weapons in a fight between hyper advanced, spacefaring, sentient rocks. It feels like the gems didn't know warfare before the rebellion. BD's guards didn't even use swords against our terrifying Pearl. The current state of HW's weapons shows that they aren't bound to swords. They used them during the rebellion because they just didn't knew any better.

>>
>>81170111
I don't think so, why do you ask?
>>
>>81169909

Look at it this way: they have hand ships that can bombard a target from orbit. Following this assault, you can send down a handful of strong, immensely durable foot soldiers to clean up anything that might be left -and there won't be much that you wouldn't be able to take out with your fists or a sword.

Gems, being timeless, are going to be really slow to change tactics from something that already works.

Then the rebellion happens and we fast forward to Homeworld having destabilizers and Peridots armed with enhancer-mounted plasma casters, so they learned something.
>>
>>81170111
Steven does and maybe Amethyst too.
>>
>>81169909
I think this is the case too really.
It's like how they didn't even know shit about different Gem fusion before the war.
The war likely brought about a lot of evolution in the gems with them finding new powers: fusion, weapon summoning, possibly even stuff like shapeshifting.

As for why they're all melee, I doubt they get to choose their weapons. Otherwise, why would Pearl's be a spear when she's clearly more given towards swords (though she can apparently shift the spear into a more sword shape).
It's probably something tied to their personalities or desires.
>Pearl's is an elaborately designed spear, refined and focused on a cause/homolust
>Amethyst's is a whip, wild and flexible
>Garnet's is gauntlets, solid, blunt and powerful
>Rose's is a shield, with her motherly and protecting nature
>Lapis's is wings, reflecting her desire for freedom
>Jasper's is a helmet, similar to Garnet, but more headstrong

>>81169914
>hard light constructs
>this shit again
Nigger, Lapis's wings are straight H20. Garnet's guantlets are metal. It's not "hard light" it's some freaky Gem energy that can take on different forms of matter.
They have bodies that can TURN INTO light, and they are LIKE holograms but solid. They're not straight up hard light holograms.

She doesn't implicitly state that they are holograms, especially not hard light holograms.

And it wouldn't make sense if they were. Their bodies are far more complex than any hard light hologram would bother with.
They have internal fluids for fucks sake, even Pearl has saliva and blood despite being as not-human as she can be usually.
Their clothes can be damaged and their bodies can be scratched and bruised. All of this is done realistically, not as if a hard light hologram has been disrupted.

Their bodies are real, just inconsequential as they can be reformed over time.

So how long until I make up my mind who's best gem? They're all so different and unique, I can't pick!
>>
>>81159437
They have already said the bomb format is here to stay and they have started writing new episodes with bombs in mind.
>>
>>81173094

I think it's more likely that she'd tuck Steven under her arm, pack Peridot in a suitcase (for sex and bullying) and fly off to live on a comet somewhere.
>>
>>81173214
so is it going to be like old-school Dr.Who, where every "episode" is a four-parter?

>>
>>81154398
what does cleavage actually mean in gems?
>>
>>81173267
Oh I'm sure a about 60% of those bombs will be filler but each 5 episode bomb will end with some kind of big moment.
>>
>>81173479
>what does cleavage actually mean in gems?

Just as wood is easier to split with the grain than against it, gemstone cleavage is the tendency of certain crystals to break along definite plane surfaces. If there are planes in a crystal structure with relatively weak atomic bonds, the crystal is more likely to break along those planes.

The less cleavage a gem has, the less likely it is to split during cutting or shaping. It's how you can, say, carve a fucking elephant out of solid rose quartz (which has zero cleavage) but not out of diamond (which has perfect cleavage).
>>
Why is this thread still up? Does a mod subscribe to the OP's shitty theories?
>>
>>81112293
Are you retarded? She doesn't provoke fear to her allies. On the battlefield even though her weapon is a shield, she had a giant sword specifically built for her, in addition to plant soldiers and voice-activated artillery that are capable of effortlessly destroying a Red Eye. She was absolutely intimidating to Homeworld.
>>
>>81116860
What makes you think Pearl doesn't know Rose was PD if that is the case? I mean she's -Rose's- Pearl and a fugitive under an obtained name can't really buy a Pearl. Either Pearl was PD's attendant or Rose's but the key point is she was with Rose before the rebellion.

Also gem hierarchy is already bullshit so it's just cheap shounen-esque drama.
>>
>>81172237
I do it for her.
>>
>>81173650
wait, so if you cut a diamond, it always breaks in a straight line?
>>
>>81174045
>>
>>81174064

Yup. Along four separate planes, no less.
>>
>>81172413

>Like Rose did? :^)

Its going to eventually be revealed that Rose wasnt a good person at all. She literally only came to earth and fucked the most pathetic person she could find so she could go into hibernation to hide and produce steven.

She'll eventually re-awaken and spawn off from Stevens gem as her normal self and go back to being her war criminal self.
>>
>>81174120
oh is that why they're always cut that way?
I always wondered who came up with those shapes.
>>
>>81173094
Hello darkness my old friend...

I've come to talk with you again.
>>
There has only been 21 episodes released in the past year. The fuck man? will we even finish season 2 by year's end?
>>
>>81169813
That's the absolute best they are capable of.
>>
>>81174079
Don't forget, you're here forever!
fuck.
>>
>>81136974
Destabalizers weren't invented yet, Rose had no way to prepare for them.
>>
>>81174241
you'll be lucky to get two more bombs by then

Regardless, it's still tool use. They seek out, clean, and maintain the coconut shells for a specific purpose. Some of them have even learned that they can roll around like a little Morph Ball.

No, it's literally the best they PHYSICALLY are capable of, and it is hard enough for them to do that. Birds are better tool makers and octopus have a few million years of evolution on them.

Tentacles are NOT the way to go.

You're also not some special snowflake, I had seen both of those videos myself before posting.

Why does Blue diamond get all the nice fanart while Yellow Diamond gets memes?

A pretty fun memeastical face at that.

You can't see it but I'm rolling my eyes super hard right now.
>>

If I'm remembering right, isn't that a reference to how in a lot of classical art, especially sculpture, women were typically depicted with long necks as a way to emphasize their femininity?
>>
>>81176555
well that's all well and good but it still led to memery
>>
>>81176841
I meant Yellow's neck being designed as it is in the first place, before it became a meme.

okay, this is some pretty heavy evidence, but it still needs work

Lion can't have been modified directly with Rose's powers, their abilities are nothing alike. Lion could be a shard-infused cat but she would have had to feed them to he cat which would be pretty creepy

There's also still stuff about his connection to pink diamond that we don't understand.

I might have to go back to my cat + PD's shards = Lion
>>
>>81108904
Actually Lion is just what PD removed from herself to transmute herself into Rose Quartz.

I'd once thought of a scene where Greg sets up a bunch of speakers and shit to focus a bunch of sound in one spot, and he uses them to focus the sound that resonates with diamonds on YD when she visits. It would be damaging at least, if not deadly.

>>81183510

This may be something... They certainly didn't like the Wailing Stone....

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2zlygg
>>
>>81186048

From me. I suppose it came from the visual of sound waves breaking a crystal glass. And it turns out that sound waves CAN damage gems.

If even an itty-bitty cleaning device can be harmful, imagine what this baby can do...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P3FsLMKwJE
>>
>>81186088
From what I've read ultrasonic cleaning works by putting the objects into an aqueous or organic solution. The ultrasound creates waves in the liquid that produce bubbles. These bubbles collapse with enormous energy. however, they are so small that they do no more than clean and remove surface dirt and contaminants.

tl;dr: It's not the soundwaves themselves that do the damage.
>>
>>81186147
