I prefer something like the coat or jacket there. Mostly because I like the idea of things like Cap coming in for the rescue and dropping his coat over the person he's helping (symbolically loaning his strength and reassuring them they're under his protection). Then for a beautifu lbit of "now, let me carry you." reversal, maybe in real tough fights where Captain can only buy time for the rescuee to rally themselves and draw the strength and inspiration from Cap's fight, they can then return the coat and fight along side him.
