I don't even know what this series is trying to accomplish anymore. It's not Venom, it's barely Flash Thompson.

It's weird that Carnage seems to be doing symbiotes more or less right, but Venom is just a generic space book.

According to Bendis, symbiotes were originally good and sent out symbiotes to find warriors who were perfect hosts so they could be spaceknights or whatever. Basically green lantern rings. Problem was, if they didn't bond to a perfect host, they usually became corrupted (like Eddie and Venom) and all their spawn were also corrupted, which explained the huge number of evil symbiotes.
The symbiotes from their home planet purified Venom, and that's where he is now.

The problem with that, though, is that the Venom symbiote wasn't evil in the first place. It came from a planet of symbiotes who wished to dominate and enslave their hosts. Originally, the Venom symbiote just wanted to co-exist with a host and experience its emotions. Nothing more.

Bendis literally just fucked the symbiote and stripped away everything that made it interesting.
