No. That is a pretty classic translation error in my opinion.
Especially since just about nobody in the NA audience would know that.
My guess is the writer either used a translation tool blindly or asked a native "Hey, what's captain in German?", which would produce this result.
Or possibly it's kind of an injoke and he just put that line in because ironically it will raise less eyebrows than the correct translation would.
