Man, I really wish they would stop treating blaster bolts like stun blasts.

I get that the shells of the spider things might be stronger than even high end armor, thus not being hurt except by eye shots.

But ship blasters, seriously? What are those spiders made of?

It doesn't ring true, especially as they can usually take out TIEs, and in TFA we see a typical dialed-up TIE blaster hitting like mortar explosions.

It makes it a clusterfuck when trying to figure out the abilities of ships and blasters as a whole. It's sad when them having 'power settings' is about the only way to justify the differing showings.

I really like how the names of people in Star Wars always have some sort of meaning to their personality.

Ren = "Reborn"
Agent Kallus = Homophone of the word "Callous"
Tarkin = probable reference to Tarquin the Proud, the last king of Rome
Sabine Wren = Sabine women taken hostage by Romans
Luke Skywalker = Lucas' self insert
Greedo = Greed

The list goes on and on. Its not subtle in anyway and perhaps not the best story telling method, but its something neat I've always liked about the universe.

As for your second point, what was it you meant to say? You don't think the Knights of Ren are trained in how to use their weapons? You only think such weapons are effective against untrained Lightsaber users? Because they're surely very much trained, especially in anti-Jedi tactics given how much Snoke feared the Jedi, maneuvered to kill them, and wants, beyond all else, Luke not to return and make more Jedi. We've seen DROIDS with lightsaber resistant weapons defeating Jedi. This is like the whole crossguard bitching all over again. People swore it could never work, would be a threat to the user, but there was zero probability it wouldn't be shown to be anything other than kickass awesome and effective. You're obviously stumbling on the concept of duality and degrees. It seems like you suffer from a very binary frame of mind where something can only be 1 or 0 with nothing in between, only the one state or the other.

Or you're just being very pedantic about what they call themselves. Let me try to ease you into this. A Dark Jedi is an individual trained as a Jedi who has fallen to the Dark Side. They still have all their old training and teachings but have broken with key doctrines and become something more. Becoming something more than what they were, however, doesn't mean they get rid of everything they were. So a corrupted Jedi has a foundation of a Jedi. A Night Sister is something entirely different and Ventress, trained as a Jedi and then given Sith training and doctrine on top of that, would have never been entirely the same as her sisters who were raised only on the Night Sister faith. Her Certain Point of View is changed by what she was which is still a part of who she is, regardless of what she calls herself or group she affiliates with. For instance she uses a lightsaber with all her previous Jedi and Sith training whereas her sisters do not.

So in this manner the Knights of Ren being corrupted Jedi can be quite significant and tell you quite a bit about what they may be capable of. If they are truly some previously unknown group they may be complete wild cards. The Night Sisters, for instance, are quite different and strange in how they use the Force. Others, like the Dagoyan Masters, are completely passive in their use of the Force with no significant powers beyond visions. It's safe to say whatever the Knights of Ren are they are hardly that benign.

It's not like Coruscant, where it was and always has been the central government headquarters, they go to different Star Systems and make a new place. Her training as a Jedi was a significant factor in making the Council trust her, or at least consider relying on her as a suitable ally against Dooku.

Her training as a Sith, by Dooku no less, was considered valuable for both her insights into the Dark Side and Dooku's potential vulnerabilities.

It was also revealed that the Nightsisters' preach a kind of balance between the Light and Dark Sides, able to use both without being beholden to either. Less true Grey than considering themselves slaves to neither, able to do what they wish be it Light or Dark. So more Chaotic Neutral. They show true loyalty, but only to their own kind, whereas Sith only care about themselves. Everyone else is a tool. They can also kill, manipulate, and control if it's in their best interests without worrying that it will corrupt their souls. It's kind of like they don't view themselves as belonging to the Force at all, just each other. This doesn't stop them from being damn powerful with the Force.

Ventress, at the point where she was caught between Jedi and Sith, accepting neither, was a glorious abstract example of the Nightsisters. And her death as a price to save Vos was a price not worth paying.

But the empire wrecked a lot of information. Including trade and travel between planets. And many planets removing themselves from the Galactic Government. Even the Jedi Temple on Coruscant was hacked way before the Empire came about.

And they only had the map for a day or two. Maybe after more time they could have discovered where it is.

Also the resistance did not have the best resources. And it was possible they needed to look into larger map archives to find it.

Throughout Star Wars the narrative has been about journeying to far and unknown lands. Even though in a SciFi story you would think it had all been mapped out before.

It is a big galaxy with billions of stars and maybe trillions of planets. With those numbers I am giving them a break.
