Have you considered anime? It seems like you might have an easier time finding what you're looking for in one.

Other than that the only thing I can think to suggest is Wakfu. The story is good, the characters are fun, and it has a cute anime-inspired art style

Trying to find something as good as SU in those regards is sadly a fool's errand.

I've had a lot of people try to sell Adventure Time on me as similar, but it's never hooked me that hard. From what I've seen, though, it does have some pretty neat parts and definitely a Wizard of Oz feel. Also songs!

Beyond that, though, you may have to make concessions. If you want cute characters and a Wizard of Oz feel, look into Gumball. If you want a a strong story driven-plot with meaning, go for something like OTGW. If you want songs, you may even want to look into MLP.

I would've recommended Madoka and One Punch Man, but if OTGW is too slow then pretty much no anime is going to fly. Even the slapstick stuff is pretty slow-paced.

I can name cute cartoons but they are episodic with no real plot. Meanwhile the cartoons with strong plots are action cartoons.

Well, you might consider some of the shows the creators of SU like to reference and seem to have taken inspiration from, like Revolutionary Girl Utena, Sailor Moon, and Invader Zim.

I just remembered, something you might want to look into OP is Star vs the Forces of Evil. Unlike SU, it has fewer episodes and is in hiatus right now, and the plot is not hinted at till the last episodes.
And if you don't mind 3D cartoons maybe Miraculous Ladybug could work. First like 20 episodes are episodic but the plot gets around the last few episodes as well.

Watch a few episodes of Wander Over Yonder. It can be a saccharine at times and it's much lighter in terms of lore and worldbuilding but it's really cute with fantastic art and character design that often reminds me of Samurai Jack. It also has great musical numbers.

I don't know what you mean by "deeper meanings", but Wander Over Yonder is a cute, fun cartoon that gets story driven during the second season. If you like SU, you'll like Wander, but for different reasons. It has much stronger comedy, visuals, and even songs, but as a trade off, the main characters don't have a lot of depth to them (there's still some, but that's saved for specific episodes or side-characters like the Black Cube of Darkness) and the overall story is more simplistic. But nonetheless I highly recommend it.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic sounds like something you'd like.

The more dramatic stories start happening in Season 2 and onwards, but all of its good. The movies are okay, but not required.
