I didn't feel down because I saw it again 2 days later with a different group of friends, and then again a few days after that by myself in 3D.

"Vulpes" refers specifically to the genus containing the red and arctic fox species. Most of the other species are in other gensuses though. The word "vulpine" comes from a time when humans had little knowledge of genetics, and it was assumed that all foxes were closely related to each other, and not at all related to dogs.

Saying it's "incorrect" to call a fox a canine is logically the same as saying it's incorrect to call a cheetah a cat.
