>every goddamn animator cites influence from "Japanese animation"
>only source is always Miyazaki films

They try too hard to be "Mainstream"
>I'm into Japanese Animation
>I'm watch Miyazaki films
I don't watch anime but even I know Miyzaki isn't even considered entry level because everyone already has seen one.
Maybe if it's Princess Monako but I somehow doubt that.
The thing is Japan was an influence for the original PPG. But animators nowadays just mention safe Miyazaki films, which gets so annoying.
I think PPG has more in common with stuff like Astro Boy and Cutie Honey, not to mention the obvious live action influences like Spectraman and Kagestar.

I've never even heard of those series, but I'm always up for more old toku to track down. Are either of them subbed?

The first one is Ponyo,I think.

Typically, comparing yourself to people far more respected and popular creators is a pretty bad idea. It only invites comparison, which in this case is horribly one-sided.
The fact remains that any screenshot I've seen is unidentifiable as being from PPG unless Blossom, Bubbles, or Buttercup are visible.

Miyazaki:
Would have been nice if they'd been inspired by the Powerpuff Girls a tiny bit

I haven't actually watched the reboot yet, but Gigantor literally shows up at 0:08 in the first clip. If that isn't an obscure / patrician Japanese influence, I don't know what is.
>>80936329
Gigantor was better animated than this mess.
