Yeah the ads kept playing up the scenes of Buttercup being mad at Manboy because he called her princess but most of the episode dealt with her going to anger management because she destroyed most of the hippie fair.

I didn't think it was that bad. Not as good as the original by far, but it had its moments. Manboy was straight out of Adventure Time though, with his growing beard and steak army.

Wow of all the designs, Mojo is the one that really shocks me. He looks so much better with jagged and pointed lines, it gives him this really rough and evil looking vibe, even on a show where all the characters have pointed lines. If there was one thing they should have kept, it was this. That's how character designing works.

And shit, its not even like they're trying to make everything rounded like Lilo and Stitch either; Mojo's hands have points on them.

It wasn't as bad as TTGO, I liked some of the designs of the monsters in ep 3. But yeah no, it has little to none of the charm of the original, the girls look awkward, the violence is severely toned down and the animation and soundtrack is subpar most of the time. I haven't seen Mojo in motion yet, but that design is terrible.

This. I have no idea what they were thinking with it, the rounder shapes and toned down colours sucks all of the character out of the design. Is it literally just to make Mojo Jojo look as nonthreatening as possible?

I'd argue that it's a good show, just nothing too grand like people are wanting, nor as great as the original often was, but it's not really fair to expect it to be the same exact thing.
From the three episodes I saw: It can be funny, it can be cute, it can have compelling action, and it can even have those obligatory lessons for the kid watching. Of course it's never going to be for everyone: The humor may not be for you, different definitions of cuteness, action may still not be enough, and the lessons may be "cringeworthy", but on some part I wouldn't fault that entirely on the show.

Hence their cartoons reflected this. 90s cartoons had sharper shapes or cooler colors, while other had more subversive grotesque styles like Ren and Stimpy or Beavis and Butthead. What makes this video shit is that its a youtube short, parodying youtube videos. Why did they bother making a youtube parody layout?

Its a bad execution anyhow, at times the animation is supposed to mimic the point of view of a camera as its moved around but at other times it just cuts to none camera shots like bubbles laying on the sofa. It can't even commit to its premise. All it does is remind me how well Gumball executed the same joke, without needing to have a faux youtube layout to point out the joke

It seems the creators are set on only appealing to one demographic, small girls.

What made the original PPG so popular was that it had something that appealed to everyone - no bullshit hardhitting action, big monsters and destruction, kids being kids, adult humor and references you can appreciate later, good lessons for both kids and parents.

It was a mix of cute and 'girly', with serious, and sometimes fairly adult, themes. This is what made it something special all kids could talk about in school, and still enjoy as adults.

The reboot is trying to make everything soft, without edges, and cute yet at the same time they keep drawing ugly faces and seem to make the girls as unappealing as possible. Where's the cohesion? So many aspects of this reboot seem all over the place. The aesthetic dissonance is baffling.

Another problem with the "pilot" is that pilots are meant to introduce viewers to the thing you're watching. This show's OP shows you the girls, the Professor, and you get very brief shots of Mojo, a very odd ape that might be Fuzzy Lumpkins, and one of the Gang green gang.

The episode itself shows us only the girls, and we don't even get introduced to them well. The barest bits of their personalities are shown to us, and that's it. We also don't know where the girls came from, how they got their powers, or why they want to save the city.

-It keeps the same character aesthetic but essentially removes the thick lines and angles
-It has some familiar things but makes weird changes that don't make sense (Octy is still around but doesn't have a hat, the girls don't have a hotline but get phone calls, the house is the same but the scale is completely fucked, they only remember the announcer says "so once again the day is saved" in one episode and they even get that wrong, etc)
-The animation thinks it's being like the original but is actually dogshit

It literally makes no sense. It wants to be a reboot of a classic series and keep the things older fans remember in it but also do it's own thing while completely shutting out said older fans and only target one specific demographic. It's completely retarded.
