If you could change one thing about Zootopia, what would it be?
>>
>>80779792
The ending felt a bit rushed, so add like half an hour to it I guess.
>>
>>80779792
Turn everyone into humans.
>>
Credits start rolling after that part where Nick bites Judy's neck.
>>
>>80779792
I think it was perfect as is. Granted I really do want to see Judy and Nick end up together but I'd rather that be touched on in a sequel and fleshed out properly. Oh and I felt Gazelles name lacked any thought. I mean a lot of names were sort of lazy. Otterton, Weazelton, Lionheart, but Gazelle's is just plain ol' Gazelle.

Speaking of Zootopia I've an idea in my head for a little story that happens after the movie but I'm not a writer. Should I just forget about it or try typing it out and see how badly I get ridiculed for it on an anonymous image board?

Not much, there's a lot if like to see out of the world though.

The other districts, a car chase, and badass cop stuff with Nick and Judy to name a few.

I think it's her stage name. Maybe there's an aesthetic movement associated with the naturalists. No clothes, no names, just pure animal roots. But no meat eating, unless both parties are into that.

Flesh out Bellweather a bit. She had a shitty job, but lots of people do. She was still one of the most powerful people in the city. Hell, if she either didn't officially put Judy on the case/let her use the traffic cams or quit as soon as Lionheart was arrested, she would have won.

I've also been thinking about writing a fan work until the sequel comes out. Something to do with Zootopia's nocturnal denizens.

Judy didn't for the movie since she didn't have access to police resources, but apparently in one of the picture books that takes place after the movie, she has a taser

Honestly even without guns it felt rather real in the sense that normal things like death scare them. I mean we see characters in Disney movies die before. Bambi's mom, Mufasa, so death isn't foreign. Them mentioning it a lot however is. The drill sergeant at the start says it about a dozen times, Nick asks Judy if she's afraid he'll eat her, Judy and Bellwether mention it at the end when she darts Nick.

I bet they didn't have real guns because they wanted the main dangerous thing in their world to be... the animals themselves. The predators could overpower many of the smaller animals easy, herbivores like Bogo could tear the shit out of almost anybody outside of maybe Elephants and other very large animals. The danger is already there in a way, but in another it isn't. Because they're all like any normal person in our world: Just trying to get by without much hassel, get home, relax, and try to be happy.
>>
>>80780113
She's a politician. She isn't just a random secretary Lionheart promoted to assistant mayor for the sheep vote, she has been playing her cards right who whole career. Fear is what she used to get the sheep on her side and keep them loyal and she knew that she could use it to control Zootopia. Fear made her who she is and fear gets her what she wants.

As much as I hate being a shipperfag, I really wished there were something more between these two. The chemistry between them is way to good to ignore. The writers tried to make their relationship platonic, but I couldn't really see it.

Can confirm. My ex-girlfriend was 5'0" high test beauty and used to play soccer. 34DDD, huge thighs, and pretty bright blue eyes.

Best of all, she pursued me for some odd reason. I'll never forget when she was showing off her Halloween costume (Kim Possible) to me and she took off her pants and was wearing some spandex shorts underneath. Since I'm an autist, I didn't get the hint until a few weeks later when she came into my room at night and basically sat on my face.

To add to this, the sheep have been largely fearful/hateful to foxes in particular. Nick implies that they always avoid him. "They never let me get this close."
>>
>>80780406
I don't think it's so much that they wanted it to stay or just be platonic, but that they wanted the characters to be natural. Normal people just don't instantly want to marry someone who seems interesting. Nick and Judy dislike each other at first and actually get to know one another quite a bit as the movie goes on. They have a genuine reason to be stuck together and to interact.

Now in the sequel if they aren't a couple, get married, or at least have a really cute little kiss scene at the end where Judy just tackles him and nearly makes out with him, I'll be pissed. The chemistry was way too good and Judy already cried her eyes out thinking she'd never have Nick in her life again.

I wanted Judy to get affected by the drug (not in the same setting or situation as the end of the movie) and Nick having to do some sleuthwork on his own to find a way to cure her WITHOUT resorting to any sort of "love conquers all, just hug her and she snaps out of it" quick fix.

Yeah. I was trying to think about how the commercials would go and it's like every scene with a predator would remind the audience that these fun little animated characters are actually violently oppressed and enjoy a lower quality of life due to living in a world of prejudice. I was thinking there'd be a montage set to Danger! High Voltage that shows how many times Nick, Clawhauser, and Honey get shocked during the course of the movie. Fun for the whole family!

But even then, she's a like a midget or a dwarf among her people. Makes you wonder if she's actually a mutant hybrid who's embarrassed by her freakish mixed species background, and this whole incident was her overcompensating for her self-loathing.

yfw her father is a tiger named Victor Creed

Judy saved his life three times in ten minutes, which is a bit much. He got his own back when he kept her from losing her badge and then remembered the traffic cameras right after that, though. Yeah, I've seen that in the concept art. Don't recall him opening them much during the film.

Honestly, I get why they gave Dawn human eyes; so that the audience trusts her and identifies with her, so that way we don't see the twist coming (even though we did). Real sheep eyes would make her look weird and sinister.

Frufru, however, I think would have been fine with little black eyes, as it would still make her endearing, as the audience would associate her with a toy or a doll.

It's kinda fun to think of how natural eyes would affect they way you view a character. Nick would be more untrustworthy with regular fox eyes, for example.

I almost think that's all the more reason he should have had regular fox eyes. The AUDIENCE trusts him less, and when his whole backstory comes to light and the whole press conference, we start to realize we ourselves were judging Nick the same way he hated, based solely on his appearance and race.

As a side note, I'm starting to headcanon maybe "human eyes vs. animal eyes" is some kind of mutation that's been cropping up in the Zootopia-verse in the last thousand or so years and has become increasingly common to the point of dominance, but many still possess animal eyes too.

so yes, if you were able to prove that Disney plagiarized your writing, you'd have legal grounds. But since it's Disney, they'd likely just throw you a few hundred grand and tell you to keep quiet about it.

Nice.

Also, I'd say she's potential mother material. Sure, she definitely focused on her personal goal to become a cop, but she really seemed to enjoy her time with Single Father Nick and Little Toot-toot; her biological instincts definitely kicked in then.

Now, as for if she would be a stay-at-home mother...

Secondly, the problem with the 'saving her people by segregation' is that predators weren't actually a threat to prey. At all. Not even a little bit. It was the syrum making them go crazy, which is would have done to any animal it touched.
Dawn wanted to use fear to gain power, and predators were an easy conduit.

It was funnier than 99% of comedies for adults that have come out in the last 5 years. More than anything else that probably speaks to how unfunny comedy movies have become in the last several years. However, Zootopia is really a lot more than "funny"laughter." It really touches on so many other emotions than just laughter, to the point that it's really a disservice to the movie to just sum it up as being "funny." I am really glad that they were able to do such an emotionally rich movie.

A mix of slice of life and police action, a chance to focus on other characters, etc. etc.

I watched Emperor's New School, Lilo and Stich, Timon and Pumba, Little Mermaid, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, and a couple others. The last few came on at like 2 in the morning on disney when I couldn't sleep and couldn't be assed to change the channel.
The first two were really hit and miss for me, mostly because Kuzko basically discarded the character development of the movie and half the episodes of Lilo and Stich were monster of the week filler.

The inherent difficulty with the TV show, is thatyou have to be able to keep it running for sometimes an indefinite period of time. It's a lot harder to have thechanges to the show that the audience will except because if you change it too much, you might lose some of your audience. With movies, it's a lot easier to have the status quote get shaken up considerably.People generally expect there to be some big get new developments when they go see a movie, where is with the TV show they tend to feel "safe," with the assurance that nothing is gonna get shaken up too terribly. Also, producers would like to keep TV shows in such a way that the audience can jump and easily without having to catch up, and that's harder to do with shows that have lots of character development and ongoing serialized plots.

"Prey animal" is a misnomer in of itself. Elephants, Rhinos and other large mammals are rarely preyed upon by other animals unless they were already injured.

And some predators can become prey themselves, foxes and coyotes can get really fucked up by cougars or bears.

Funny thing about that
While watching the film I interpreted that predators were supposed to represent men and the public opinion of the prey species that predators could snap at any second and go savage was a reflection of the low opinion that feminists have of women.
The whole movie the whole point that just because you are the victim of bigotry does not make it impossible for you to be a bigot really makes it more anti-sjw than pro sjw.

So in regards to the whole interspecies thing: beyond the obvious reason of not being able to have kids, there are probably other strata v of how unusual certain patients are. Nick and Judy don't even have it that bad, because they aren't that far apart in size. They might not be genetically compatible, but they are at least physically compatible.

A mouse and an elephant, in the other hand, while perhaps hilarious as a visual gag would be highly improbable. The elephant would barely be able to see the mouse, much less have any kind of intimacy. Such relationships might exist, although they would be an order of magnitude less common than something like a wolf and a leopard.

The most common interspecies relationships would probably be between animals from the same genus or family, like two different species of cats, a wolf and a fox, etc., and from there would be unrelated species that are similar in size, though predator / prey relationships might be less common than prey/prey and predator/predator. The least common would be relationships between two species that are so different in size that they aren't even physically able to have sex.

Have an actual reason for the prejudice between predators and prey. Give them different cultures and ways of going about things; not make it as superficial as skin tone. That way the good ending actually feels rewarding, like they overcame something more than hurt feelings.

Would you prefer that they are already dating when the movie starts and then by the end they get engaged or married or would you like them to start dating over the course of the movie?

I personally kinda want them to be married before the movie ends. Mostly because I wanna see Daddy Nick as soon as possible.

Though of course I don't want that if it were bad for the movie itself, I want it to be as natural and well done as possible. But thats just what I'd like to see if that could be done right.
>>80784320
I kinda want the sequel to be somewhat down to earth. Taking advantage of the setting they are in of course, but dealing with real life issues.

But I probably shouldn't hope for that too much since its a kids movie.

Closest thing I can think of though would be like the first part of the Incredibles where we see a lot of the family's home life before the plot really gets rolling.

One of the biggest problems I had with the film is that it implies only large species ever became police officers before Judy joined the force. But who would police the rodent district? Is this why the mafia is run by a shrew? Just to form a local militia to protect rodent neighborhoods? And if this is the case, why are there so many polar bears at the shrews employ? Did they make the money first and then just hire them as muscle, or is there some deal we are unaware of going on? I want answers to these questions.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Cinema_Package

It looks like DCP doesn't use video or audio compression: you just have a JPEG for every frame in the film, and a WAV file for the audio.

If each JPEG is 1 MB, at 24 frames per second that's 170 GB for 2 hours.

3D requires two video streams, one for each eye, and you can't reuse the 2D stream in any way. So maybe the JPEGs are compressed more to save space.

I guess it's similar to extreme LDR stuff for us; it exists, and quite a few people might try their hand at it, but the actual successful attempts are few and far inbetween, and the parties rarely have a traditional view of romance and sexuality anyhow.

I doubted Disney would make them an item, just because of the interspecies thing. With that said, looking at how this movie turned out? I can see them take a approach to use interspecies as part to build on the setting.

Though this is probably bad, what if
>Nick is kinda obviously crushing on Judy but she doesn't realize it
>They go meet her family
>Her parents totally do see it
>They give her a warning talk about him or something
>Then she realizes it and is conflicted
>but in the end she gets over it and they get together.

I'm sure it could be done better but yeah
>>
>>80784913
It's really cute but you have to do it right or it will suffer what I call the "spice and wolf problem"
Having the characters beat around the romantic bush, teasing each other and being cute is well...cute, but you can't stay that way forever , and once they are actually together then it can kinda fall on much else to go on from that point
>>
>>80784962
Dawn is cuter and has a better butt though. And is fluffy. But she seems pretty frail so she'd still probably lose.

Well the easy way is just don't use cute teasing as a crush. Mix the cute teasing in with them being good friends. Since hopefully you would considering yourself friends with your lover. Just make them like friends but more.

The will of the Hist is clear, the landstriders must be dominated in the name of Sithis!

It also means that where there's a niche and communications, there's probably support groups and such.

I could actually see Nick and Judy getting offered by some guy to join their Prey/Predator couples support group.

>>80784925
>I doubted Disney would make them an item, just because of the interspecies thing.

So... just be sure, you do mean "past tense" right and that's not a typo?

Because, honestly, is this the first case of interspecies Disney's done with their talking animal stuff?

Closest I can think of is Mike and Celia in Monsters Inc. and that's both Pixar, and Monsters are all kind of nebulously part of a single species with massive morphism between individuals.

On one hand, in Monsters Inc, nearly everyone is massively different while in Zootopia, everyone is defined on multple levels.

Honestly I'd imagine they will gloss over the fact that its a bunny and a fox getting together and focus more on the fact its a predator and prey getting together.

Jesus Christ, just how much evidence is there?

>>
>>80785153
Doubted, as in, my thought before I saw the movie was "it'll never be a thing because it's interspecies and they don't want to go there", while my thoughts now are more along the line of "it didn't become a thing because there's a lot more to this couple than what a happily ever after could offer". I'm pretty confident that there's quite a few people behind the scenes that like Nick and Judy as a couple, but didn't want to do a ending where they just end up together and it's happily ever after. Considering that this is a world where legit anti-fox products exist and are sold on the market, it would definitely be a cop-out, kinda lazy, and pretty predictable.

If there is a sequel, I'd love to see it as more of an action romcom, where the two of them are just starting out and starting to deal with the backlash of being in a interspecies couple. It would make a great conflict, and it definitely deserves more attention than this movie could've given.

>>80785351
Assuming it wouldn't EXIST is pretty naive, but the Zooteam seems to have a lot of love for the universe, and would probably want to devote more attention to the implications of such a relationship (especially one between different families, sizes, and roles of animals). So that does make whatever other "couples" are in the movie being interspecies or not pretty irrellevant. Of course interspecies relationships exist, we don't need the creators to confirm that.

Ok, hold on, which neighbours are we talking about here? The two antilopes?
>>
>>80784587
I think the way they will handle it is that the audience can see that Nick and Judy are getting closer, but Nick and Judy themselves are not fully aware of it until maybe the third act. There would be lots of hints that they are a bit obsessed with each other like constantly spending time together when not on the clock, going on "dates that aren't dates," lots of physical contact / closeness, etc.

Nick meeting Judy's parents would be a perfect example. On the conscious level Judy would have an official reason that Nick would be meeting her parents, but on a subconscious level she is fishing for their approval. The same would go for Nick-- officially him and Judy aren't an item, but on the subconscious he really wants her parents to approve of him. Judy's parents would probably stop just short of asking "are you two dating?" due to not wanting to embarrass the two of them, but the implication would be that they know exactly what's going on even if Nick and Judy themselves haven't come forward about it yet.

I think it'd be great if they actually ended the movie with Nick and Judy getting married. By that point they know each other inside and out, and the only thing stopping them was that they hadn't admitted loving each other yet. If they've known each other for one to three years by that point (depending on when they set the movie vs. how long it takes to come out), there's not really any reason for them to wait it out with a long engagement.

I don't think Judy and Nick should become a couple in the next movie already. Maybe at the end of it, but nothing with marriage and shit. It's way too early.

I wouldn't mind if the movie focused on interspecies relationships if it was done as well as the first movies plot was.

However I'd also find a lot of charm in both Nick and Judy being 100% ok with loving each other and getting married. Maybe just have them be as they are normally, great chemistry and all, then just nonchalantly tell someone oh yeah by the way we're getting married. Maybe Judys parents or something. Cue spit take etc.

Something like this. "We don't give a fuck, we're happy, eat shit if you don't like it."

Romance is never something you should have as a focus for anything. We've already got them going from people who, honestly, want to see the other fail, to ending up being all but life partners at the end of the first movie. What additional character development do we get from the needless, and frankly senseless, angst of your fanfiction? We already have them work through the superfluous character flaws that we see they have, there's nothing to bother with at that point.

It is better to strain the current relationship with a new outside problem.

I can agree to that. Definitely should be a "slow cook" kind of thing.

(warning: cancerous levels of faggotry ahead!)
in a sequel idea I had had the most I had was the two of them echoing the "you know you love me" lines from the end of the movie only this time followed with a small kiss.

Nick still has some unresolved emotional barriers and a fear of intimacy.

I don't see anyone asking for the movie's plot to revolve around relationship drama. Judy and Nick's friendship in the first movie was a major component but it wasn't the only thing driving the story-- rather the story drove their friendship forward. There's no reason to think that if they get together in the sequel that it will not be handled well, because I think the writers have already proven themselves as being able to juggle multiple story elements without making any of them feel unimportant.

If Nick meets Judy's parents I can guarantee you there will be a plot-related reason for it. It just so happens that they can also use the scene to develop the characters, and Nick and Judy's relationship. Plot happens in a way that the characters get a chance to be developed. That is how good movies are written.

Why, because you say so? Because he decided to use humor to break the tension of an emotional moment? Everyone does this, it's a natural human reaction to such situations. Does everyone have unresolved emotional barriers and fears of intimacy?

Disney is way past direct to video sequels to theatrical movies. That was the Michael Eisner era. I bet Bob Iger and John Lasseter curse at the moon and stars to this day that all of Disney's 90s rennaissance classics like The Lion King already have DTV sequels, because a theatrical Lion King sequel could have been huge.

These days if they're going to bother with sequels, they are going to shoot for the stars rather than going for a quick buck. The amount of money to be made from DTV sequels is absolute peanuts compared to what a theatrical sequel can do.

I absolutely loathe these melodramatic pointless sequences. They do nothing to further the story, they do nothing to further characterization, it's just porn for teenagers and as a direct result of that shit we now have to deal with Twilight being a fucking Best Seller.

This is all your faults

The tension of that emotional moment was on Nick's end. For Judy it felt very natural and it very clearly could have led to something a lot more intimate, even if it was just her hugging Nick. Nick wasn't ready for that though-- he'd already shared a bit of his soul with Judy by telling her about his past, and knowing Judy is younger, he might have worried that she was going to do something impulsive like trying to kiss him.
>>
>>80786720
I don't think it needs to be melodramatic.

Just rather casual but poignant statment is made, the other gives a casual but poignant response. Then it strikes them how much the other meant what they said, smiles, and maybe some hand holding.
>>
>>80786608
>>80786591
Nick says "$200 a day, every day since I was 12!"

Judy then refers to Nick not having paid taxes for 20 years.

12 + 20 = 32, which is Nick's official age.
>>
>>80786813
More likely is that since she was able to acquire his federal tax forms, she likely has his DOB as well.
>>
>>80786794
If anything I'd rather see a dramatic literal cliffhanger in which one of them finally expresses their love and the other gets renewed strength from it and after they've rescued themselves they sit and laugh about it, then a warm and genuine hug or whatever.
>>
>>80786633
That must be some damn expensive cake.
>>
>>80786845
>laugh about it
That'd ruin it. The other would feel heartbroken if it was just a laughing matter to the other.
>>
>>80786813
doesn't matter his official age is "early 30s"
>>
>>80786831
That makes sense too, and we see her holding his tax forms. She's not in the computer systems but DOB is basic info that would be very easy to look up, and everything we heard pins Nick's age at 32.

The 8 year age gap between them oddly enough just makes me like them together even more. Nick's old enough to have become cynical but Judy is still young and full of optimism, and that optimism rubs off on nick. She's exactly what he needed in his life.

>>80786905
That's not a specific age though, and you can put together his real age just with some simple arithmetic.
>>
>>80786794
>I don't think it needs to be melodramatic.
Really? what do you think a "tearful realization" is? Having this romance shit come to the forefront in any way is melodramatic especially when there's something that's actually important going on. "Oh no, our heroes need to stop the big bad from destroying the city, it sure is a good thing they have a couple hours to waist being all angst about shit and then crying about how much they wuv each other"

Romance kills momentum in a story, it stops it dead and runs if over and buries it in the back yard.
>>
>>80786831

> "Nick, I love you..."
> Nick literally starts howling with laughter, can't even stand up straight
> Judy tears up and stomps away.
> A few seconds later, Nick is pelted with Judy's badge as she throws it at him.
> "Hey Bogo, I fucking quit!" She shouts, slamming the door behind her.
> There is an awkward silence before the door opens and Judy shouts. "AGAIN!" Before she slams the door.

DOB and age are missing from all documents in the movie. Kind of sucks that they intentionally gloss over these details.

Why does it matter to you wether he's 32 or "early 30s?" Is there something about the age of 32 that makes you unhappy, and you can't accept it?
>>
>>80787046
It is his official age.
He is in his early thirties.
