Why did Wander over Yonder have to get cancelled?

Disney is picking up too many animated shows to maintain them all at once, especially since Big Hero Six and Star Wars Rebels probably take twice as much to make as a normal shows. Disney isn't interested in waiting around for a show to pick up an audience, especially since it was supposedly canceled before season 2 even began. They're a big company and they want big Gravity Falls level hits right away. If they can't get it out of Wander, then they'll cancel it and greenlight another show, and another, and another until something sticks.

Kids don't care about repeating episodes and they rarely make the first airing of anything.

Adult will set their watch to the drop of the next episode of SV or GF

It's not just about waifus, it's about lore. AT and GF have plenty of lore, stories, and continuity for adult fans. Star is just a shallow episodic comedy, but waifus.

So you need to have either lore or waifus or both and Yonder doesn't exactly have either.

Wander wasn't scheduled as well as it might have been, also Craig had switched networks and not done anything on TV for a few years prior, which perhaps created a small disconnect with his diehard fans. Star and GF definitely did gain fanbases much more rapidly.

A rabid fanbase would not help WOY, in fact shows that do have rabid fanbases like MLP and Gravity Falls are more people who watch for what they think those shows should be rather than what they are.

It's not a bad show, it just had the misfortune of having to compete with GF and SvTFOE.

Yeah... That could be said for Penn Zero and The 7D, as well, but to be honest, I'm still going with the theory that neither this or my other 2 examples really grabbed anyone from the beginning like they should have, hence all 3 shows' lack of large popularity.

WOY's failure is really, incredibly easy to explain. Unlike Gravity Falls, Star, and The 7Ds, there's nothing in this show you can fap to.

Series lacked a hook for me, it's a good-ish show to watch from time to time but not really regularly follow it, like Gumball. Guess Gumball is more popular because they tend to be more experimental and humor that feels more contemporary.

Wander could've been an exception, we don't know. There's like 20 different ways this shit can go

First it depends on the company, then the animation technique, then the episodes per season, then how it's made (storyboard driven or script) and then more deeply how the producers have gone about doing their work and how much effort it requires etc.

The cost of raise at a 3rd season isn't set in stone for everything. I don't know this from experience, but I've learned over the years from studying this stuff it depends on a number of factors.

I think the premise to begin with was weak. Season 2's been better with the extra layer of Hater being a hopeless romantic, but I can see why it didn't grab enough of a fanbase soon enough.
